Humphreys Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
It was a festive night. Great place to dine with a group or on a date. The food was perfect. My friend had the steak and loved the sauce and flavors. I had the Salmon, it was perfect. We shared the truffle Mac n Cheese. The server recommended a perfect Chardonnay.
After dinner we went next door where a great band played. Dancing and fun was had by all.
We had dinner at Humphreys because my Mother and Sister were visiting San Diego, and we wanted to take them to a very nice place. The seating next to the windows provided a great view of the Marina, the ambiance was high class and it was quiet enough for a nice conversation. The food was great and the service was incredible, though drinks are expensive and there are no Entrées under $28. This is a great place for special occasions or to impress someone. The Backstage next door is fun with no cover if you have dinner and or are staying at the Hotel. All in all, a good experience.
I have been to Humphrey's on Shelter Island twice in two weeks with a friend for dinner. We both had the macadamia crusted Halibut. It is expensive, but so delicious that we both decided we need to come back once a month to have it. I am not a big fish eater but this is such a flavorful white fish with the crunch of the macadamia nuts that I just can't resist. I have also been to Humohrey's many times for lunch and the lobster roll is full of lobster and very flavorful. The dining room is bright, clean and has a view of the boats docked behind the restaurant. The wait staff are attentive and parking is free and plentiful.
A few of my friends and I came in for a concert at the arena and was under the recommendation of my friend to try this wonderful place. The ambiance, seat right to overlook the entire yacht lift of San Diego was do die for. I has the shrimp and grits, which was an appetizer, which I had for dinner instead. It was DELISH. We were very impressed.
I make it my business to get to Humphrey's as often as possible for their reputable "unlimited champagne brunch" on Sundays. Their service from the hostesses who seat you, to the waiters or waitresses who cater to your every need throughout your meal is impressive. During each trip I try to enjoy one of the many concerts offered throughout the year. I will continue to support this wonderful establishment for years to come.
We ordered a flat bread to start, the waitress stated it will take a while as it is a pizza and will need time to bake. We agreed to wait, our entrees came out before the starter. After we finished our dinner, I asked her to make sure we do not get charged for the flat bread and advised her we no longer wanted it. She quickly stated "you didn't order a flat bread. I didn't put in the order." I reminded her of the comment she made with the length of time it would take for the flat bread. She then responded by making excuses and blaming the large party and their children for being very loud and proceeded to explain she was unable to hear us well. She then proceeded to ask us about desert and we declined, since this point in time she made us feel as if we were lying about placing an order for the flat bread. She did not take accountability and frankly we were appalled by her unprofessional behavior. She then proceeded to say she will bring us a desert "free of charge," to compensate for the lack of her professional accountability. She said she would be right back and left abruptly after we stated we did not want desert. She insisted and came back was a chocolate cake. She could have given us an option by allowing us to choose from the desert menu or perhaps just apologized, and had the manager come by. I'm intolerant to chocolate so I was unable to enjoy it. We were there from out of town and celebrated our 16th anniversary there after a friend suggested we try Humphreys. Food was good, however the service ruined it for us. For the amount of money we spent, we did not receive the service we expected.
We enjoyed our birthday brunch. The on-line booking process was efficient as was the check-in and seating upon arrival). Every aspect of the food was excellent; tasty and fresh. The service was the only disappointment, as frankly our server was rather slow with drinks (champagne nd water).
Our recommendation for the chefs and staff would be to make available some soups as "starters" as this food category would be a good addition to the existing offering!
