Humphreys Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I chose this place for a Valentine's date night. Although nice, it was not what I was expecting for the occasion. The food took longer than we expected, and it was bland. The server was great though. She apologized for the food delay, and gave us a round of free wine and dessert. I would give it a second chance, but not for a special occasion.
This was our second visit to this restaurant. It was good - but I would not say great. The wall surfaces are pretty hard so the live music from the bar invades the space. Both times the dining room has been less than half full which adds to the noisiness (no bodies to absorb some of the noise). The view of the yacht harbor and Point Loma is nice. This time the restaurant was using Sea Bass in lieu of halibut in their macadamia crusted fish - not as good. The scallops are excellent. Weird to have to pay for bread when you buy dinner..... The Corn Chowder was good but needed to be hotter - when the Cajun shrimp is cold - it cools the soup down too fast. Server was attentive.
My wife and I , had dinner on a Saturday night at about 9:00 PM for her birthday, the restaurant was isolated so were sat by the window. The food and service were excellent as well as the food very tasty. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this place to any one who wants to experience great food and live music (entertainment).
Everything we had was delicious. Lobster Bisque and arugula salad were perfect. The braise short ribs were tender and the sea bass was combined with rice to perection. The Poke appetizer had a little too much mayonnaise, so the only area to improve. Service was good and attentive. best dinner I've had in a while
I took my wife here for her birthday on the last weekend of San Diego's restaurant week. It was well worth it. We had reservations for 5:30pm and were immediately seated. There was a live Jazz show scheduled for the night so the crowd was lively. We were immediately attended to by our hostess and the meals came out of the kitchen surprisingly fast. We started with the Seafood Ceviche for my wife and Lobster Bisque for my son and I. The ceviche was extraordinarily wonderful. The seafood was fresh and the mango, lime, and cilantro matched perfectly. The lobster bisque was equally delightful. Creamy texture, and perfectly seasoned. Simple and fulfilling. For the main course, I ordered the red wine braised short ribs, with seasoned vegetables on a bed of seasoned mashed potatoes. This was equally delicious. My wife had the Salmon. This was by far one of the best salmon dishes that I tasted. Overall this was a really great experience and we will be going back!!
Service and ambulance were nice. Food was just average. We expected more during restaurant week. We also happened to be seated next to a very large loud and obnoxious group that really should have been asked to leave. Otherwise it is a nice place. Thankfully there was a good band and dancing next door to make it worth the visit.
We took advantage of the Restaurant Week lunch special and it was wonderful. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
It was a little on the noisy side but there was a good crowd which accounts for it.
The only thing we take exception to is that bread was not served with the meals. If you want bread, you need to order it and pay.
What a delight! My best friend and I went to Humphrey's Restaurant to cut loose at champagne brunch after a hard week. We greatly enjoyed all of the options at the buffet (Shrimp and oysters? Yes, please!), not to mention the bottomless mimosas. They had a nice champagne-to-OJ ratio (read: more champagne than OJ), and Cherree, our server, was such a sweet lady. The manager who came around to check on us was also very nice. The ambiance, food, and drinks were fitting of the price of the brunch. Highly recommended!
Went to the bar, ordered a drink, which was overpriced and small. Ordered a second drink and there was only cranberry juice in it, no vodka. Asked the waitress about it and she said it was just like the first drink then would not look at us for the duration of our stay. Terrible service will never go back and be ignored again
We hadn't made plans for Christmas day and called Humphrey's to inquire about brunch asking if it was ala carte or a prix fixe and were told the former. We made reservations just in case and headed over glad to be able to get in. We were seated and told that it was actually prix fixe and something like $69/person. When we told the hostess she essentially implied "tough luck" the person didn't know what they were talking about. We acquiesced and decided to make the most of it. The buffet had an impressive variety but the food was just mediocre especially for the price. The buffet staff seemed to have been treated poorly so they were stressed out. Our waiters were stellar at our table though. The turkey on the carving station was pink and the seafood table reeked so we avoided it altogether. I might try this place for ala carte dinner or lunch but never a buffet again.
It was a festive night. Great place to dine with a group or on a date. The food was perfect. My friend had the steak and loved the sauce and flavors. I had the Salmon, it was perfect. We shared the truffle Mac n Cheese. The server recommended a perfect Chardonnay.
After dinner we went next door where a great band played. Dancing and fun was had by all.
We had dinner at Humphreys because my Mother and Sister were visiting San Diego, and we wanted to take them to a very nice place. The seating next to the windows provided a great view of the Marina, the ambiance was high class and it was quiet enough for a nice conversation. The food was great and the service was incredible, though drinks are expensive and there are no Entrées under $28. This is a great place for special occasions or to impress someone. The Backstage next door is fun with no cover if you have dinner and or are staying at the Hotel. All in all, a good experience.
