Humboldt Farm Fish Wine Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, Humboldt was a bit of a disappointment this time. Our waiter was very attentive at the beginning of our meal and answered all of our questions, and our beginning choices - the crispy broccoli and burrata, were great. However, one of the three entrees we ordered was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered the mahi mahi, which was one of the specials, and it was spectacularly under cooked. We tried to find our waiter but, at this point when his presence would have been very valuable, he was nowhere to be found. By the time we were able to talk to him about the fish, the other two people in our group had almost finished their meals. Humboldt remade the fish, but the second time they overdid it and the fish was tough. They kindly took the mahi mahi off of our bill, but the whole situation put a damper on our time there and made me skeptical of a return visit.
Celebrating husband's birthday with dinner here on a Thursday, 6:30pm reservations.
Started with a dozen mixed oysters which were fabulous. Hubby then had crispy pork ribs (delicious with a tasty bed of cole slaw). Main courses were steak (I ordered med/rare and it came very rare) and halibut specials (came completely cold). Main courses were very disappointing. Our server did bring hubby a bday dessert which he enjoyed (key lime). Overall, not the best dining experience we've had at Humboldt. It's been one of our favorites since it opened and this was our first lackluster experience.
We we're in Denver on a business trip and most of us were new to Denver. The service was really good. Our server was attentive and timely. I wasn't crazy about all of the fried appetizers, but the rest of the group really enjoyed them. We all had salads and everyone enjoyed those too. Over, it was good. Definitely good for groups!
This restaurant is a go-to for us as it is always reliable in the high quality of food, good cocktails and excellent service. My last visit I had a bad experience getting TO the restaurant and the server went out of her way to make things extra special to get me back to a happy place. I'm always impressed how knowledgable the staff is and how well we feel taken care of when we visit. We are always tempted to try the latest new spot (which we sometimes do), but this is one of our few restaurants we repeat several times a year.
The food seems to have moved from popping and exciting to bland. Flavors unenticing and some items such as coq au vin that were recommended to us were sparse at best on the protein - more of a lunch portion. The steak and fries were unfortunately luke warm, with mushy fries and chewy beef. Runny bearnaise and the 'gravy' seemed to be a watered-down tomato purée. Disappointing.
Brought the kids (teenagers) and my in-laws from out of town (Vermont). In-laws are 'foodies' more than we are, so wanted to pick something nice that they would enjoy. We all loved it. The waiter was great - gave us thoughtful recommendations and interacted well with everyone at the table. Recommend!
Drinks and Dinner took a long time to get. Service was not as friendly as usual. Felt like we were being sold on every course including a bottle of wine. Some of the dishes were not hot. Disappointing since we frequent this restaurant quite a bit and brought out of town guests.
The seafood boullabaisse was disappointing; it should have been called a potato boullibaisse. The flavor of the broth was decent but come on, a small piece of fish and 6 or 8 mussels on top of a hefty load of fingerling potatoes for $32?
She had the chicken coq au vin. She thought it was delicious.
As a couple we enjoyed dinner here on a Sunday. For a party of two we were seated at a partial booth - bench seat along the wall with other person seated in a facing chair - not the coziest for a date. There were families with small children.
Our entrees were delicious, I had blackened trout and a side of polenta with goat cheese. Our appetizer of crispy fried brussel sprouts were the tastiest.
Wine list was adequate with many regions represented. I would return for another dinner.
This was my first time here. They happily accommodated a substitution in my meal (mushroom risotto), since the menu was different in two places, and the server- Allen- was professional. He was attentive, but gave appropriate space to enjoy. I think this place is a great find, and I will be back for sure.
Humboldt Farm Fish Wine is one of the best restaurants in Denver. The entrees are beautifully presented and delicious. Don't miss the brussel sprouts and calamari for appetizers. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the Steak Diane is my favorite.
The very worst table we have ever had for dinner. It was immediately in front of the door to the atrium. Every person who walked in - guests, servers, manager, people searching for the bathroom, walked up to our table and turned one direction or another. Kindly Place a large bouquet of flowers on that table and don't seat anyone there, ever again.
When we sat down we were warned, many of the entrees were not available (7:30 reservation), so things didn't start well. They definitely had problems with kitchen timing for the meal. The crispy broccoli was excellent as everyone recommends, and the house salad was also good as a starter. The entrees however, lacked. After nearly an hour wait after the salad, the entrees arrived. The steak (ordered medium) was perfect for my dining partner who prefers a steak rare. The seafood paella (special of the day) was very bland and lacked any flavor whatsoever. Very little fish or shimp in the dish at all.
Possibly an off night. The waitress mentioned they were in the last week of a Groupon promotion. However, you would think the kitchen would have that figured out by now.
Based on the experience of this meal, I wouldn't return. The prices were high for the quality received.
The burrata was one of the best I've had. I was disappointed with the short ribs. We split an order and my piece was about 80% fat. What meat I did get was fantastic. We were told it had been a busy day which is why they were out of so many options, including dessert. Disappointing and it seems more like a kitchen planning problem than a busy night issue. Our server was humble about it though.
The food was great. It was apparently the last night of a Groupon which meant the restaurant was packed and they were out of both of the dishes we tried to order first. That was disappointing but we did manage to find something else and it turned out to be pretty good.
We could not have been more impressed. We were served by Hope, who could not have been more friendly and helpful with selections. The restaurant was great space and filled for a random Wednesday evening with all ages. The menu was interesting and our two meals were delicious. I can't wait to go back.
The service was HORRIBLE! Not only did he ignore us there was zero contrition when confronted. He was busy and in the weeds and simply ignored us. Drinks and food took entirely too long which happens. However, there was no contrition whatsoever and he certainly didn't apologize for anything.
