Humboldt Farm Fish Wine Ratings and Reviews
Classic bistro menu which is executed very well. Menu is a list of "greatest hits". Food is consistently very good and wine prices are reasonable. You can dine outdoors either along the street or in a brick enclosed interior courtyard. Staff are seasoned. Manager touches tables. Old school but in a good way.
Heard people rave about it. Maybe just an off night. The rice and broccoli under my crispy fish was cold when it came out (pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to be). Slow service. My wife’s steak was pre-cut for her (people still do that?) All in all just so so. Lots of restaurants now in Denver so probably won’t rush back (not that my 3 star review will move the needle on a bunch of 4/5 star ratings!)
Two couples, new friends, enjoyed a quiet dinner in the “alley” space. Even though there was only one other table occupied there, our server, Brandon, was attentive, informative, and pleasant. The cocktails were wonderful...excellent bartender! We all enjoyed our dinners, in particular my husband, who had the whole Colorado striped bass. See photo. We come to Humboldt fairly regularly and have had excellent food and service every time. Love the crispy broccoli!! I’m shocked to find no mention of this wonderful restaurant in the 5280 Magazine. Definitely an oversight on their part as we have had numerous enjoyable evenings here, and it’s always at the top of our list for dinner downtown.
Started off on the wrong foot and never really recovered. We had to wait 30 minutes for our reserved table, hostess did not go out of her way to make us feel anything other than in the way during our wait. service was fine, portions large, food is meh. We asked for our leftover lamb entree to be boxed but apparently server did not hear that. So no leftover lamb for us. A manager came over to apologize and said she took a little off the bill. Emphasis on "little". it was - $3.00 off a $26.00 entree. Maybe a quick bite at the bar if this is your neighborhood but no reason for a special trip here when Denver has so many other options.
We went on a date night and really liked the place - the ahi tuna salad was our favorite dish.
If I could make one recommendation based off what we tasted it would be to not have so much chili sauce with the brussel sprouts. A light drizzle over the dish would be more than enough flavor. It was incredibly overwhelming to the point where my date and I couldn't taste any flavor from the brussel sprouts themselves - when a main ingredient can be replaced by any other food I think you miss the mark.
We were disappointed with this visit. The food was okay, nothing special. We had the salmon which was better than the mushroom risotto--unfortunately sub par, just mediocre--cooked average, not too sticky or undercooked but without a hint of mushroom so why call it that? The service was slow and just okay. Boring so we probably won't be back because there are just too many other outstanding restaurants in Denver.
I had dinner here last night with my friends. Allan, our server, was fantastic. We’ve dined here before and really enjoyed our experience. However, last night was awful. For an appetizer we had the trout jam and the crispy broccoli that my friend loves. Three bites into my salmon I rushed to the bathroom and “returned” my dinner. Both of my friends were also unwell last night. Safe to say we won’t be returning here because something is not fresh about that farm to to table.
Dining experience - food and service - was excellent. Made a dinner out of "sides" 3 0ut of 4 were terrific. Broccoli appetizer is very special!! Outdoors on a beautiful evening - 17th not the most relaxing. Valet parking a real bonus for those of us driving into this area.
I love the seating in the atrium but any seat at Humboldt is great. Ample tables, lots of nooks and much more.
The steaks are always special treatments and delicious. The chicken dishes and fish sandwiches are favorites too. And the oyster bar is a big hit with my crew.
Enjoyed the evening with new neighbors. Server was terrific if a little too forthcoming about issues but very friendly. Restaurant seemed to be out of some common stuff-no lemonade for example. Tonic water in one of the drinks was flat. We sent it back (server was good about it) but she came back and reported that the bartender agreed on the tonic and needed to replace the capsule. Seems like this should be known. Seemed like a number of little things were not going great. Probably I'm more sensitive than others. Food was good. Both sets of neighbors had never been. One couple splits time between here and Arizona so we were trying to give them a good overview. They all said it was fun and a great choice and that "you really know some good restaurants."
Humboldt Farm Fish Wine had been on our "Must List" for a while, so when we were looking for some place special to celebrate a birthday we decided to to try it out. We made a reservation although we knew our 5:30 time probably meant it wasn't necessary. We wanted to be sure we were seated at arrival. Staff were friendly and greeted us right away. We weren't thrilled about our tiny table in the middle of the traffic pattern, but it turned out OK since no one was seated at the tables next to us until our meal was nearly finished. Service was average, a bit distant at important times during our dinner. The food was well prepared and portions were measured to be just right. We especially liked the crispy broccoli, an interesting alternative to the ubiquitous brussels sprouts. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the ambiance. And we would return.
