Humboldt Farm Fish Wine Ratings and Reviews
We'd read great reviews and this was in our Denver Dining Passbook, so we thought we'd give it a try. The space occupied for years by Strings has been beautifully redone. We started with happy hour in the spacious bar and were wowed by the creamy trout dip, kale salad, and cocktails. Our server was fast and friendly and the hosts were very accommodating, not rushing us at all to our dinner table from the bar. For dinner, we were seated in a quiet, smaller room, perfect for conversation. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, helping us decide from the many appealing choices. My husband's filet mignon was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. One of the day's specials, huge scallops on a bed of crisp cauliflower and rich risotto, was also fabulous. The crispy broccoli may have been the highlight of the meal: definitely not the healthiest preparation, but amazingly delicious, and an enormous portion. Part of my entree and some of the broccoli made for a great meal the next day. The manager took time to visit our table and chat with us, which also impressed us. We're so glad to have made this new discovery and look forward to returning!
We picked this restaurant based on previous excellent reviews and were not disappointed. We have a beautiful meal from cocktails to dessert. We started with the bourbon peach mule and one of the ales on tap. The appetizers of crispy broccoli (GF!!!) and truffle fries were awesome. We thought about canceling the entrees to eat more of the small plates. The braised shortribs ribs with polenta and beets were really tasty. The ribeye and fries were beautifully cooked. The desserts were unique.
I love Humboldt!
It is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver and is always a go-to for date nights or special occasions. Both the food and the service are fantastic! Being someone who is pescatarian and allergic to gluten and dairy, finding a restaurant with amazing food and a kitchen staff happy to accommodate my restrictions is not easy, and Humboldt takes the cake for making me NOT feel like I am the world's worst dinner guest (Thank you!).
Humboldt also has the best server in Denver, named Hope. She is attentive, helpful, and welcoming without being overbearing. She has worked in the industry a long time, which is evident in her knowledge of the menu, wines, and order suggestions based on your meal preference or specifications. She is straight-forward and steadfast in a way that is calming and comforting, so you feel completely taken care of and are able to focus 100% on enjoying your meal and the company you are sharing it with.
The overall price point is on the higher side, however, the portions are huge (even the appetizers) and are on-par or slightly below what you would pay at other restaurants similar in quality and cuisine.
My favorite dishes are:
Calamari (sautéed for gluten free)
Thank you Humboldt!
A relative new find for us this is a new go to place when friends or family are visiting Denver. Relaxed atmosphere that is not to noisy with great service and food. You have try the flash fried broccoli, it is excellent. This time I had the short ribs and they were truly exceptional. Very lean and cooked just right on a layer of polenta. HIghly recommend giving this restaurant a try. You will not be disappointed. Oh try the Truffle Salt Martini, perfect balance of salt, booze and truffle, a real treat.
It's a great restaurant for just drinks and snacks or for dinner. The food was so well prepared and delicious. We did find it odd that the manager and waitress felt it necessary to touch us each time they came to the table. They touched our backs, ran their hands down our arms-- odd!
We'll return, but plan to make it clear that we don't want to be touched by staff.
Three of us ordered the salmon. The flavors were delicious and each was cooked perfectly. I ordered the calamari appetizer as my entree. It was more than I could eat in spite of it being better than any calamari I had ever eaten. The complex flavors were addictive! Nickol was helpful and attentive and made us feel welcome. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you.
Took my bestie to a birthday dinner. Really a move, comfortable vibe. Loved the big round table for a large group as one enters!
Dinner choices were wide ranging and interesting. Server was knowledgeable and helpful in helping with selections. Dessert...pumpkin tart was out of this world!
We have gone to Humboldt quite a few times in the last couple of years. Their cocktails such as their barrel aged Manhattans are especially good. Two members of our party got Fish: one was a regular menu item and one a special. Both were delicious. The Steak Diane was eaten to the last morsel by a third person.
Desserts were also excellent.
The only problem was that we were seated at a table overlooking the kitchen; it was very noisy, making for not so great interactions at a business dinner. Have never had that issue before and now know not to sit there.
Still an enjoyable meal!
Classic bistro menu which is executed very well. Menu is a list of "greatest hits". Food is consistently very good and wine prices are reasonable. You can dine outdoors either along the street or in a brick enclosed interior courtyard. Staff are seasoned. Manager touches tables. Old school but in a good way.
Heard people rave about it. Maybe just an off night. The rice and broccoli under my crispy fish was cold when it came out (pretty sure it wasn’t supposed to be). Slow service. My wife’s steak was pre-cut for her (people still do that?) All in all just so so. Lots of restaurants now in Denver so probably won’t rush back (not that my 3 star review will move the needle on a bunch of 4/5 star ratings!)
Two couples, new friends, enjoyed a quiet dinner in the “alley” space. Even though there was only one other table occupied there, our server, Brandon, was attentive, informative, and pleasant. The cocktails were wonderful...excellent bartender! We all enjoyed our dinners, in particular my husband, who had the whole Colorado striped bass. See photo. We come to Humboldt fairly regularly and have had excellent food and service every time. Love the crispy broccoli!! I’m shocked to find no mention of this wonderful restaurant in the 5280 Magazine. Definitely an oversight on their part as we have had numerous enjoyable evenings here, and it’s always at the top of our list for dinner downtown.
Started off on the wrong foot and never really recovered. We had to wait 30 minutes for our reserved table, hostess did not go out of her way to make us feel anything other than in the way during our wait. service was fine, portions large, food is meh. We asked for our leftover lamb entree to be boxed but apparently server did not hear that. So no leftover lamb for us. A manager came over to apologize and said she took a little off the bill. Emphasis on "little". it was - $3.00 off a $26.00 entree. Maybe a quick bite at the bar if this is your neighborhood but no reason for a special trip here when Denver has so many other options.
We went on a date night and really liked the place - the ahi tuna salad was our favorite dish.
If I could make one recommendation based off what we tasted it would be to not have so much chili sauce with the brussel sprouts. A light drizzle over the dish would be more than enough flavor. It was incredibly overwhelming to the point where my date and I couldn't taste any flavor from the brussel sprouts themselves - when a main ingredient can be replaced by any other food I think you miss the mark.
We were disappointed with this visit. The food was okay, nothing special. We had the salmon which was better than the mushroom risotto--unfortunately sub par, just mediocre--cooked average, not too sticky or undercooked but without a hint of mushroom so why call it that? The service was slow and just okay. Boring so we probably won't be back because there are just too many other outstanding restaurants in Denver.
I had dinner here last night with my friends. Allan, our server, was fantastic. We’ve dined here before and really enjoyed our experience. However, last night was awful. For an appetizer we had the trout jam and the crispy broccoli that my friend loves. Three bites into my salmon I rushed to the bathroom and “returned” my dinner. Both of my friends were also unwell last night. Safe to say we won’t be returning here because something is not fresh about that farm to to table.
Dining experience - food and service - was excellent. Made a dinner out of "sides" 3 0ut of 4 were terrific. Broccoli appetizer is very special!! Outdoors on a beautiful evening - 17th not the most relaxing. Valet parking a real bonus for those of us driving into this area.
