About Hula Grill - Kaanapali
On the water's edge on Kaanapali Beach, Hula Grill offers a stunning view of the Pacific and of the islands of Lanai and Molokai. From this distinctly Hawaiian vantage point, you are invited to join us as we celebrate the hospitality, culture and cuisine of the islands. Dinner is served in our open-air dining room where you can relax in the ambiance of a plantation era beach house while enjoying renown chef Peter Merriman's Hawaii Regional Seafood, that isn't only a favorite of vacationers, but locals too. Hawaiian fresh fish and locally grown produce are combined to create amazing menu offerings that are as colorful as they are flavorful. Fiery sunsets are served up daily along with live Hawaiian entertainment.
Our Barefoot Bar offers a more casual menu serving both lunch and dinner under authentic thatch roof umbrellas and a sand floor where you can sink your toes in. The Barefoot Bar is seated on a walk-in basis only.

Hula Grill - Kaanapali Ratings and Reviews
Ate at Hula Grill 2 times for dinner and 3 times for lunch while in Maui for 1 week. Nice ocean view. For dinner ordered from "Tasting Menu", a great value at $27 which included appetizer or salad, entree, and dessert. Choices from "Tasting Menu" are limited, choice of about 4 appetizer/salad, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts, and only available 4:45 to 5:45. Sun was setting around 6:20 while we were there, so 5:15 reservation was perfect for taking advantage of "Tasting Menu". The "Tasting Menu" portions are smaller, but perfect size. The ice cream dessert on the "Tasting Menu" is so large we couldn't finish it. From "Tasting Menu" we enjoyed crab topped mahi mahi, lobster potstickers, and Ice cream sandwich with raspberry sauce. For lunch we enjoyed pork potstickers and flatbreads. Be sure to make reservation for dinner.
We had outside seating which allowed us to take advantage of a beautiful sunset along with a great dinner. Montana, our server, was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients, and very professional. The food was delicious, served very quickly and perfectly. I brought guests from the mainland and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner!
Hula Grill was packed on this Valentine's evening. This didn't impact the staff or the kitchen as our experience was everything we've come to love about this place. We didn't feel rushed at all, and we enjoyed our appetizer and cocktails before dining. Both of our fresh, locally caught fish entrees were perfectly prepared and a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Thank you, Hula Grill, for your delicious consistency. We will return.
We had a reservation but arrived a little early, hostess said they needed to clean table just a few minutes. We watched many people come in get a buzzer and get sorted before us. I waited over 30 minutes and finally got seated after asking about our reservation. The hostess seemed annoyed that we came up again. Our waitress was very nice and helpful.
It was another Sunday afternoon at 6 PM, I made a reservation about 10 days ago.
I have ordered tomato soup, shrimp cocktail, and evening paste.
Everything was very delicious and satisfying.
Just because I reserved the seat 10 days ago, the view was not very good in the seat behind the restaurant.
the food was very good. We ordered off of the Chef Tasting Menu. My husband appetizer came about 10 minutes before mine. I asked the waitress and all she said was sometimes one come first. I had order a salad, and was not offered fresh pepper. None is on the table and other people had been offered pepper. Service was not as good as it had been.
Food was fresh and tasted excellent (we both had the macadamia nut mahi mahi with crab) but portion size was disappointingly small, especially for the price ($38). Of course the hula pie for dessert never disappoints. And the service was excellent. Just very surprised and disappointed in the main course portion sizes.
We have come here for years on our trips to Maui but we’re disappointed this time. The fish was tough and not nearly as tasty as other times. This group owns several restaurants and we have been to most and the food is always excellent but not this time. To be honest we will try other places in the future which is too bad because it’s close to our condo.
Place was good but we were all disappointed to learn it was a Duke's partner restaurant since we had just eaten at Duke's the night before. The menu's were very similar. It was our fault, we just didn't look very closely prior to making reservations. Overall the place was fun and seemed like it would be worthwhile going to....just not the day after eating at Dukes.
Was very dissatisfied with Open Table and the Hula Grille. It was never mentioned in the reservation process that you could only make reservations at the fine dining portion of the restaurant, not the bar/beachside restaurant. We have two kids and we're forced to make due with a menu that although was nice, wasn't aligned for a two year old and four year old. Some sort of disclaimer must be added.
We waited about 45 minutes after we arrived to be seated. Then we were finally seated. The atmosphere was awesome, but our waiter was nonexsistent. We sat at our table and someone who wasn't our waiter left warm water on our table nearly half an hour went by without so much as a drink order. Then the people at the table next to us sat down and their order was taken immediately. This isn't the way someone should be treated especially on the day of your engagement...
