The food was amazing. Has a beach atmosphere, great service and a good selection of drinks. They had some live music when we arrived which we enjoyed. We were seated right in front of the stage but the music wasn’t too loud and we could easily have a conversation. I will definitely go back.
Wonderful place to enjoy our last night in Maui! Service was good, food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. We sat on the outer edge in the grass which was perfect- not too loud given they have live music in the evenings. Cool breeze off the waterfront was enjoyable. Highly recommend.
Great good and excellent service
Service & food, ambiance great.
However, very overpriced compared to similar restaurants. Have eaten here many times pre-pandemic. Never paid these prices. But we love the restaurant. Our server was awesome.
Awesome dinner, beautiful view and incredible service! Mahalo!!
We made reservations 3 months ahead of time for 10 people in the sand, and the lady at the front desk when we arrived was not at all kind or helpful when we arrived, and said we couldn’t get a table for 10 people on the sand. Instead of trying to accommodate, or even apologizing, she was snippy. Pretty much acted like she didn’t care if we ate there or not. Very expensive, too.
Anniversary. Was not recognized by restaurant. One of hostesses was quite rude. I called and spoke with lisa and IOE and told them we were running late. Whoever the other female hostess was was rude and told us to wait on side. And I said I was surprised because we were late and our table was still not ready? And she replied “yes…you are late!” Really?! Not very “aloha” like. Place was packed and seems to becoming like a factory. I remember their dishes being much better. We spend nearly $400 for 4 people. Yes we had a drink each and a bottle of wine to share. But was underwhelming! I do commend bar staff and kitchen staff for keeping place going despite such busy ness but was disappointed. We have been coming for many years and this was overall the worst experience since we have been coming. Too bad! No more Hula Grill for us.
Oceanfront, sand in bar area, fun libations, and fresh tasty food. Fish dishes are the main draw but a wide selection of meat and poultry is also available. Save room for dessert!
Loved it! Had a blast. Good Staff
Our favorite go-to spot on Maui!
Unfortunately we were really looking forward to this restaurant and waited a few hours to get our seat. But were quite disappointed. We had read the yelp reviews but still wanted to give it a try however the reviewer‘s were correct. The coconut calamari was not tasty and very bland and flavorless. The sauce that goes with it was not good at all. We also got the poke appetizer tacos and I didn’t personally did not like them but husband said it was OK but not great. Honestly I think the best part of the meal were our kids French fries and the macadamia encrusted mahi-mahi. The topping was tasty but the mahi-mahi was over cooked but it was OK.
We got side dishes of the string beans and spinach and I have to say the spinach was the saddest looking side dish ever. It was terrible.
For a fish that cost $48 a plate it was definitely not worth it.
The kids meal of a grilled chicken was very tiny portions my eight and 10-year-old boys ended up getting two grilled chicken meals and my other one end up ordering another cheeseburger on top of the grilled chicken meal.
The ambulance is great it’s right on the beach at whalers village. Honestly I would go eat at the monkey pod that was so much better and fresher ingredients and very flavorful and half the price.
Really great service!
Great food, great live music, and an all around great time! Our server Ryan was great as well!
Always a delicious and fun time! Music, food, ambiance and service was amazing!
Had a great dinner and excellent service.
Great dinner our waiter was awesome, always a enjoyable time
Very good service and open air was important.
We thoroughly enjoyed it beautiful time thank you so much for all your staff
When I ordered the ono fish special ,it was a little dry and very firm. It needed some kind of sauce on it. I asked for some lemons I never got them. They gave me a cold Italian tomato paste To go on my fish. I feel that when I talked to the waiter about the fish he didn’t do anything about it. I hardly ate any fish but I ate the vegetables. I feel the dinner was not worth $36 because of the fish being over cooked. I liked the poke appetizer and the line 39 Pinot noir wine. The ambience was very nice the sun was setting and it was very crowded.
Great service, great food!
Fantastic atmosphere! Great food, drink, & service!
A night it was pretty hard to see our food on the lawn. Overall it was nice place to eat.
We’ve been coming to Maui forever and love coming to the Hula Grill! The ambiance is amazing-how great is it to have your toes in the sand while you watch the sunset and listen to really great live music? Only thing that makes it better is chef James killer food and great service (Ryan/Jose provided excellent service). Definitely recommend this restaurant!!
We’ve been going to Hula Grill since it opened. Always sat and ate dinner in the barefoot bar and enjoyed the more casual menu and live music. This year with COVID was understandably different. They’d decided to have the barefoot bar menu only available at lunch and a smaller menu based on the regular dining room for dinner. Very disappointed the regular items we so enjoyed on the barefoot bar menu were not available for our dinner. While the meals were good, they were more expensive and not as enjoyable as what we’d hoped to get from the regular bar menu. Hoping in the future they bring back the regular barefoot bar menu for dinner.
I placed a reservation back in August for a table for 4 on Nov. 19th. When we arrived, the place was packed and when I checked in with my whole party, the front desk had us stand over to the side. Assuming we would be seated quickly since I placed a res 3 months in advance and confirmed it two days before, we ended up waiting for 15-20 minutes in a spot they directed us to which was awkwardly in the path of traffic. At one point, one woman at the front desk called my name and as I proceeded to walk up to her, she says something I could not make out, called in another group of the same size, and then walked them to their seat. No one mentioned how long it would take for us to be seated or even circled back to my confusion of being called and dismissed. Once we were seated, they sat us in the very back corner which was located next to a rowdy table of young children that treated the restaurant as a playground (that no server addressed to their parents). I booked our time during the sunset and on a day for live music, thinking I could enjoy both but was seated behind a wall in the very back corner. The food was poor quality, coleslaw that clearly has browned edges, flavorless calamari, macaroni and cheese that had a bitter taste, and fish and chips that lacked seasoning and had the texture of cooked from frozen. Our server was perfectly sweet so we paid for our meal, tipped, and quickly got out of there to grab food elsewhere. I had a lot of other wonderful meals on Maui from food trucks to hole-in-the-wall spots that blow this spot out of the water.
Birthday dinner. Lovely table, good food… not quite as good as years past but still worth the visit. Our only real issue was with children treating the restaurant more like McDonalds than a fine dining experience… that’s more on the parents.
We have come to Hula Grill for the past 15 years and we look forward to having our feet in the sand. We look forward to having Chi Chi’s and tuna sashimi and ceviche. This year sashimi had been taken off the menu at lunch the waiter told us that it was removed but you can get it on the dinner menu. Well we are the paying customer and if you serve it at dinner that would mean you have it and could serve it for lunch.
So we made reservations for dinner a few days later and come to find out that they didn’t have it on the dinner menu either. They had a seared tuna not the same. We were disappointed ended up with a steak which was good but not what we were hoping for.
Hope it gets added back we look forward to having it each time we come.
Tourist trap but worth it! Great outdoor ambiance, Lava Flow drink outstanding..great food..I loved it..reservations a must
Nice stilling in the sand watching the sun set eating poki tacos! Fun spot!
Hostesses were rude and impatient. Never going back to this place
I have been to Hula Grill in Oahu, but this is my first visit to Hula Grill in Maui and it did not disappoint!! Service, food and drink plus the view were all amazing!
Food was average but the vibe and service were great! Definitely recommend for having drinks out in the barefoot bar especially the mango lava flow.
We had an unfortunately negative experience at this really cool spot. Our waitress ghosted us and failed to get our final food order in before the kitchen closed, then blamed us because it’s “not her job to harass us to buy food” and “you should know what time the restaurant closes if you choose to eat here”. She was terrible: defensive and petulant and told us we were rude when we complained that we had not gotten to order our meal. Several other tables were also less than pleased with her service — we heard others also complaining. Once she realized we were upset she never returned with the check for our appetizers and wine but instead set her manager up to pounce on us as we stood to leave. He was understanding but unable or unwilling to do much more than comp us our few appetizers. Of course they don’t care — repeat business is not their concern. There are two restaurants within 100 feet that are both better bets — we had good experiences at both.
In the past everything was great. Now it has gone downhill. Service fair to poor.
Food choices very limited. Information and orders mixed up. Over priced for what you got.
Wonderful food and our server Carlos was amazing.
Started with poor attitude from the hostess. We’ve always loved the hula grill on our trips to Maui but this one was not enjoyable at all. Fish was over cooked and the chicken was at best lukewarm. Vegetables were overcooked. I don’t know if it is Covid problems but it was very disappointing.
Beautiful view from your table. A kaanapali must.
Great service and food with an outstanding sunset!
Honeymoon dinner was great
We ate at the bar.
It would not be amiss for some of servers to retake a semester in charm school.
