The sign for Hugo's promotes their food as healthy and gluten free. If I recall correctly, words like "delicious" do not appear on the sign, and I fear this may reflect the restaurant's aspirations. Five us us went to brunch, each ordering different entrees and most ordering different side dishes as well. None of us were delighted with our food. Portions were smallish, flavors muted to the point of nondetection, textures were monotonous (soggy is a favorite) and even the coffee, handsomely presented in a monstrous French press with an sad half inch of grounds at the bottom, was weak. Our server was earnest and amiable, but responsible for more than twenty customers and the job seemed to overwhelm her. Entrees arrived after long delays at widely different times, often separated from their garnishes. (Eggs, for example, arrived without the ordered hollandaise; salad without the requested bacon; in both cases the items were apparently ready but the server needed reminders to bring them). At the end of the meal, we even got the wrong bill. The menu offers multiple vegan and gluten free choices, clearly labelled, so if you cannot find such items in restaurants elsewhere, I suppose this would be a haven of sorts. It does not, however, do much to make anyone excited about food in general nor this food in particular. It really appears to be a restaurant for people more excited about ingredients (or the absence of ingredients) than about dining . Despite its modest accomplishments, Hugo's prices are somewhat expensive (about $30 a person for our brunch including tax and tip, with two dishes each and no alcoholic beverages). Hugo's is earnest about its goals and the brightly lit space is charming, but even with the food constraints to which it caters, I think most prospective patrons could do better elsewhere.

While the outdoor dining and service were pleasant and professional, the food was average. Had my burger been cooked medium as requested (not well-done, as it was), I imagine it would have tasted very good. Neither of my two friends enjoyed their food as much, either.

The food here is amazing! We will be back! Great seating outside in a nice night, and it is all organic! I'm on a special diet, and they had tons of options! The only reason I gave to starts for ambiance is bc of the street noise.. But the deck was nice and fresh.. Loved it... Come eat here..I had the perfect picatta and my husband had the salmon. The desserts were wonderful ( avacado cacao mouse and coconut cream brulee) and the protien bites app was great. The kale salad was also super tasty! Try this place.. It is good!

We have been to Hugo's several times previously for special occasions, but this will be our last time. Sadly, the quality of the food and service has declined. We love that everything is gluten free and supposedly organic, and that there are dairy free options, but it just doesn't make up for the use of poor quality ingredients when paying a premium price. I had the seafood spaghetti which tasted ok at first, but then it started leaving a burning taste on my tongue, and gave me reflux. I asked my husband to taste it and tell me if it was ok, and he agreed that the fish or scallops in the dish were not fresh, and gave the dish a sour aftertaste. My husband had the Mediterranean chicken which he said had a good flavor, but was tough to cut and chewy.

When the server came to ask if we wanted dessert, I let her know that the seafood was not fresh, and that it made me feel unwell. I didn't even feel up to eating dessert, even though the desserts sounded delicious. It is really rare that I would complain about my food, but I felt they should know so they didn't serve it to anyone else and risk getting others sick. My husband didn't even mention the chicken being tough.

The server took a mere $7 off our bill (the spaghetti dish was $27), then proceeded to lecture me that I should have told her there was a problem with the dish earlier so they could fix it. Had she been around I would have, but she did not check back on us except for briefly right after she served the main dishes.

This is not how you retain loyal customers.

Clearly Hugo's has gone downhill as evidenced by the empty restaurant. Only 3 other tables with diners on a Saturday night speaks volumes. Too bad because we would love to support a restaurant dedicated to gluten free dining.

We were the only people there, yet service was slow, and we had to ask for utensils twice (no napkins/utensils on the table. Our waitress was very nice - just inattentive. Quite pricey menu, so I expected much more from this restaurant

Rather than repeating the other rave reviews and comments that I have seen posted here, I will add the unique feature that well behaved dogs are welcome in their outdoor seating area and MUCH appreciated.

It is so hard finding great restaurant options when you have food sensitivities not to mention finding great food like they have here at Hugo's. Our entire family loves everything we had as well as their amazing desserts.

Great little date night with my girl. Service was great (Dee) and the food was amazing! We were in a little rush and they were able to get everything done efficiently and still with a personal touch.

My wife and I both have restrictive diets so it can be hard to find a place to eat that meets the criteria. We crab cakes for appetizer and we both had the lamb/beef burger on a GF bun. The burger was HUGE but delicious. Unfortunately we had no room for desert.

We also picked up the cookbook and will definitely try some of our favorites at home

Hugo's is an organic restaurant in a cute old house setting. It's great for "foodies" who are into organic, vegetarian, or vegan. The dishes are very creative and overall have good flavor. While the restaurant is small, there seemed to be only one waitress and the service was slower than we would have liked. I had the layered salad with grilled wild salmon. It was okay, the salmon was significantly overcooked and loaded with salt. Other dishes ordered at my table looked much better, though the layered salad was recommended. Hugo's also seems to do a take out/delivery business and seemed to taking up the priority in the kitchen. They do have a wine list, by the glass or bottle. We ordered by the glass and the waitress had to be reminded to bring our beverages and for some reason couldn't remember what I ordered and had to go back and get it.

We had a wonderful dinner with my husband and 6-year-old granddaughter. Great kid's menu and it was a good feeling knowing that everything we ordered for our granddaughter was good for her. Can't believe the chef can make so many delicious things without dairy. As a person who regularly eats organic foods, I cannot say enough good things about dining at Hugo's. Lovely professional and friendly staff, cheery environment and nutritious and delicious food. What more can one ask for?

Love to eat at Hugo's as I NEVER have to worry about any reaction to what I eat. I just let the server know what my allergies are and they take care of it. The ONLY gluten Free restaurant that I know close to Bellevue. The food is so tasty that it is difficult to say it is dairy and gluten free!

Healthy does not have to be Bland!
Hugo you need to go to culinary school and learn how to add spice to your bland dishes.

It was a Valentine's Day dinner. The dinner was very highly priced which was kind of expected but the place was heavily understaffed for the occasion. Chicken soups and salads were far below average, Rib eye was overcooked. There were three options of the desert and we were given the wrong ones and were told forcefully that we ordered the ones that they had given.
Won't go back. Please save yourself from a grossly underwhelming experience.

We have several in our family with strict dietary restrictions. Hugo's is the only place on the Eastside that has a certified gluten free brunch menu. We are grateful for a restaurant where no on has to worry about cross contamination. Thank you!

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and visit to Hugo's. I am personally not vegetarian/vegan/gluten free but it was very nice to have a place to go for a great meal that allowed friends that do have digestive issues a great meal as well. Many places have one or two items on their menu but they are not flexible to dietary needs like Hugo's is. I had the salmon with baked potato. It was fantastic! I would very enthusiastically recommend this place to anyone that likes a great healthy meal!

Hit and miss. Some of the food was really good. The gluten free items were mediocre. Thumbs down on the bread. The dessert was below par. Too expensive for what we got.

My feelings about Hugo's are mixed. I had been wanting to eat there for about three years, so when I saw that they had a Groupon I immediately bought it. Upon arrival, there were only two other tables there: one with several children and an older couple. Shortly after we were seated, another table arrive with several children. Our waitress was nice but seemed preoccupied mostly. I ordered the chicken piccata and my fiancé ordered a steak dish with a wine sauce. Both of our plates where completely filled with sauce bathing everything. The chicken itself was very bland and seemed like it might have been unseasoned and steamed. The sauce was VERY overwhelming though, somehow both too salty and too tart from the lemons. Not very well balanced and made finishing my meal difficult honestly. My fiancées steak was undercooked and again unseasoned, with an unpalatable red wine sauce. The star of both of our plates was definitely the sautéed vegetables! We'd both love more of those and with significantly less sauce. The best part about a drizzle is that it is so good that you only need a little bit of it. Fine tuning sauces would have made this a delicious meal that I'd be happy to pay for again. We also shared what was labeled as avocado cacao pudding I believe (possibly mouse?). The dessert wasn't bad, but tasted strongly like bananas and not avocado. The texture also seemed more like banana than avocado as well. For $10, I would sincerely hope that I would be getting more than what tasted like blended frozen bananas and Hershey's syrup. In the end, our bill was about $90, $40 of that being covered by the Groupon. While Hugo's does cater to many food allergies and uses organic ingredients, I personally do not believe I could justify spending that much money on a meal that I could easily make a better version of at home. I may return to try their juices and raw dishes, which I suspect would be better than their meat, but in general, it was a miss for both of us.

Cozy space with opportunities for quiet conversation. May seem a bit expensive, but the cuisine is excellent, creative and never disappoints. The slow-cooked lamb shank was the special, and it fell off of the bone tender and juicy.

The food is amazing and all gluten free, dairy free and soy free. I've enjoyed every meal I have eaten there. The eggs Benedict were fantastic. I really loved the eggplant Alfredo. Even though it is all super healthy, it feels like a treat. I was disappointed at first not to have dairy cream for coffee/tea, but the coconut cream tasted great and did not disappoint.

I am a fan of old architecture and the restaurant is inside an old (1913) built home. Beautifully done. We had a great dinner and the service was wonderful and kind, the only unpleasant thing was price. I was just not expecting to have a dinner bill of $115 for two people.
We had "the special" (yummy falling off the bone lamb), a bacon wrapped steak filet, two tiny crab cakes appetizer, one cider and one Arnold Palmer ( which is ice tea and lemonade).

Food was excellent - I just have to make sure to bring plenty of money with me next time :)

Found that the food was rather ordinary and over priced for what it was. It is defiantly a good enough restaurant for people with gluten and dairy allergies, as it is a gluten and dairy free place. Found the overall feel to be rather sad since it was lunch time on a Saturday and we were the only people there.

Our waitress was fabulous and the building is very nice. We ate on the deck at a table that had a nice gas fire pit in the center. The atmosphere and noise levels were fine. The reason I would not recommend Hugo's nor go there again myself is that the food was very average and uninspired. Online, I found the rather eclectic menu, mixing vegan, vegetarian and plenty of meat and seafood dishes, to be exciting. In person, we found all our dishes to be rather bland, both vegetables and meat not cooked well nor seasoned interestingly and the presentations all very amateurish. The bill for three people for two vegetarian and one meat entrees -- no drinks and one appetizer and one dessert that we shared between us -- was $116 before tip. Sorry, but this was just not $40-a-head fare. Not when you can eat at Volterra or somewhere else much nicer for that price for similar number of plates.

It is great to find a place that offers organic, gluten free, and soy free meals and not just one or two options, but a rich menu with varied options. Definitely a neighborhood gem. We will be back!

My favorite restaurant for gluten free, dairy and soy free. Seafood spaghetti with zucchini noodles and crab cake eggs benedict are my favorites! Friendly service and they are always happy to change things up to meet my restrictions.

I had made a reservation on the website for 4:45. Rushed to get there only to find out they don't open until5:00.
The server didn't spologize, offer to seat us outside or anything.
Fix reservation to reflect actual opening times.
Both our dishes were lacking in flavor.

There were some good things about Hugo's and some not so good things. The 3-layer salad was great. My entree, the chicken marsala was very yummy, and the raw cocao cheesecake was great. The children's burger was delicious but it was $13 for a children's burger and it did not come with any sides. I think it should have included some veggies, at least. My older daughter ordered the pasta alfredo with chicken. That dish lacked flavor. It may have needed more salt but it was also lacking that 'something else' that would make it more interesting. Overall, it was interesting but not all the dishes are on the same level of achievement and the children's menu should include a side dish.

Our meals were delicious, attractively plated - and gluten free. The layered salad was an excellent choice, the alfredo was wonderful. My husband fully appreciated the shrimp omelet with a generous portion of fresh fruit. He doesn't keep a gluten free diet and was prepared to be underwhelmed and so for the chef this was, I think, a triumph.
The raw chocolate cheesecake was heavenly, the stuff of dreams.
How nice to dine in a beautiful setting with excellent service and enjoy delightful cuisine assured that dietary requirements have been honored.
Hugo's is a gift to the community.
