Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Naperville Ratings and Reviews
My only real problem was that we requested to be seated in the front section and instead we were given a seat right at the back area, by the fire alarm at a squeezed in table by a door.( while the wished us a happy anniversary) Not what you expect when you tell them that it's an anniversary dinner and the acknowledge that the understood it was an anniversary. Fortunately I had to park the car and my wife was seated before I arrived. To their credit, they did move us to a booth when my wife respectfully expressed that the reserved seating was not acceptable. She should never have been put in that position. Hugo's is expensive to start with so you expect to be treated properly and we were not. Our waiter however was great!!
Our lunch was quite good. Both of us had sliders and salads. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The sliders were fried tilapia and filet mignon. They were tasty, but would be significantly improved with better accompaniments on the rolls. The beef had nothing: caramelized onions would definitely add flavor. It was also a very tiny piece of beef. The tilapia had something, very thinly sliced pickles and maybe tartar sauce: a bit more would add flavor! The house salad was good and is a bargain. The loaded wedge salad was delicious! Worth going back for.
Hugos is always fun and very energetic. The only thing I would recommend is for the wait staff to not be obsessed with collecting all plates and silverware when you're trying to have a conversation at the table. They need to ask first instead of reaching in front of you or pouring water when you're clearly trying to talk to someone. It gets very annoying when it's done 2-3 times while your dinning.
My mom, sisters and I stopped in for a respite from Black Friday shopping in Naperville. We were seated and our order was taken quickly. The food was good and the drinks were enjoyed. My issue was that the server was not paying attention to all of us. While most of our party were finished, I was still enjoying my lunch when the server dumped my sister’s silverware on my plate and then whisked it away.
Went for birthday lunch and left a little disappointed.
Maitre D' was rude and dismissive and kept looking at his phone while checking in! Despite one guest saying hello to him!
The service apart from that was ok, food very good but no mention or usual "surprise" birthday cake handed to birthday guest.
I suppose no big deal in the grand scheme of things but experience just seemed flat.
They had a piano player in the bar area the night we were there. The complimentary bread is out standing. They offer a nice wine , beer & cocktail selection. The salads, soups, filet mignon sliders & burgers...are all delicious. Service is always attentive. We are looking forward to returning to Hugo’s.
Dined here on a Saturday with a group of friends and we had a great time! Price points were normal and very reasonable and the food was great!! For appetizers, we had the ahi tuna, escargot, and crab cakes. The escargot was perfect and the crab cakes were very meaty, huge, and some of the best I have ever had. I detest restaurants that skimp on the meat with loads of breading.
For dinner, the filets all around and steak salads were clear winners as well as the brusseIs sprouts and double baked potato; so good! I had the king crab stuffed shrimp and it was not my favorite. It had a sweet aftertaste that I did not particularly care for. We were so stuffed that the only dessert we chose was the key lime and it was not good. While the presentation was pretty, it tasted way to eggy and we were not impressed.
I will definitely come back as they have a lot of seafood dishes that I would love to try and their wine list is top notch!
The service was impeccable. The menu had a nice variety and the signature lobster bisque was outstanding. Unfortunately I believe we didn’t choose the best entrees. I don’t recommend the mahi mahi which was overly peppery with tasteless salsa and while the short rib risotto was tasty, it didn’t pair well with pan fried scallops. Key lime pie was generously proportioned for sharing and yummy. Good place for special occasions because of the service but probably should opt for the steaks on the menu.
