Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Naperville Ratings and Reviews
Truly one of our favorite restaurants.... the food is always excellent, the service is outstanding, and it’s just such a nice place to be whether it’s just drinks and a snack or a full meal. I’ve heard many people say you shouldn’t expect much in the way of service on Valentine’s Day... you can if you go to Hugo’s.
Well 2nd time it’s happened here -ordered the 14” filet med well and did not want butterflied. Said I was ok with outer char and they ask you to cut in half when it arrives. It was so raw it was hard to cut through so sent it back - three minutes later it’s back out still raw and 3rd time was finally cooked to med well. Meanwhile sides get cold waiting. Pretty disappointing considering they are part of Gibson’s. I won’t order a filet again- too costly for having it not cooked properly.
Really great experience. I visited with my wife for an early Valentine's Day date and we couldn't be happier. There was a short wait (10-15 min) even though we had a reservation but the restaurant was packed so it wasn't inappropriate. Wonderful food and drinks. The staff was perfectly attentive without being overbearing.
Really can't compliment the experience enough.
A little on the loud side. I dont like shouting to be heard. They could use a little sound insulation. However, the food was great. My steak was tender. My wife, who typically doesnt finish her meals, could not stop eating her stuffed shrimp. My steak was the most tender I have ever had and cooked to perfection. At many places places the desserts look better than they taste but the dessert we had, muddy bottom cake, looked great and was great. The desserts are meant to be shared, (apparently for days becasue we still have ours and will for a few more days) and are reasonably priced for desserts.
We loved the appetizers, the food was ok... my gosh was overcooked but veggies were delish. The server was not very attentive and seemed as if he wanted us to hurry up and eat and leave to flip another table. We will be back.. but thinking we will sit at the bar.
I have never had a bad meal at Hugo's, and every dish that passes by that I haven't tried yet always looks amazing! One of my favorite restaurants. It can be a little pricey, but you get a lot of food for your money. There are also a few less expensive options on the menu, so you can dine with mixed company.
We were very pleased to return to Hugos and truly appreciated the great service of the host staff and our superb waiter. The food was wonderful with the escargots and frog legs and crab legs as "appetizers"! The chilean sea bass was a tasty piece of fish at just the right size. Many thanks for the birthday evening. Job well done.
With the ambiance of this restaurant and extensive menu (gluten free included), the evening was fabulous. The fish dishes prepped to perfection. This is a restaurant you would make a special 3 hour car trip to enjoy and spend the night in the area.
The turnover rate on servers is very low--customer service is their goal--very knowledgeable. Great personalities!
I would highly recommend this restaurant to all!
We've eaten at Hugo's numerous times. Very erratic place. We went out for Sunday dinner as a treat. My wife ordered lobster tail. I tried to order a strip steak but was informed that they were sold out. ( A high priced steak joint with no strip steak- you're kidding, right????) I settled on the lobster tail. Both of our lobsters came out dry and overcooked. Management AWOL as well. Not going to return.
Had a reservation for 6:30 pm and was told when we arrived that there were 10 reservations in front of us and that it would be a 15 minute wait. 15 minutes became 40 minutes and we were not seated till 7:10 pm. The table they put us at was in the middle of the dining room with constant traffic and people brushing against the table. Overall was not a pleasant dining experience.
Service was bad. Waiter waited for several tables of was ready before bringing food. Our ice tea came out on tray with someone’s dinner. Salad came with some ones drinks and soup. Dinner came out just after the next table that came in right after us were finished and paid and we’re leaving. Then I usually have lobster roll so when I got mine this time the roll was full vs other times. What happened?? Hugh’s was our go to place can’t say that any more.
Sunday 2pm lunch reservations. My wife and I eat here frequently. Restaurant wasn't busy, seated immediately. Took advantage at one of the hightops in the bar to watch the playoffs. This experience was Extremely Disappointing. We ordered soup, salad and a sandwich. Couldn't understand what was taking so long? Bout 30 mins later "Everything" at one time was brought out to the table...Ridiculous. Wedge lettuce was brown, fries were Cold. Had to get up to ask for a refill of soda. Waitress was inattentive. Expressed our concerns to management.
