Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Naperville Ratings and Reviews
Went for birthday lunch and left a little disappointed.
Maitre D' was rude and dismissive and kept looking at his phone while checking in! Despite one guest saying hello to him!
The service apart from that was ok, food very good but no mention or usual "surprise" birthday cake handed to birthday guest.
I suppose no big deal in the grand scheme of things but experience just seemed flat.
They had a piano player in the bar area the night we were there. The complimentary bread is out standing. They offer a nice wine , beer & cocktail selection. The salads, soups, filet mignon sliders & burgers...are all delicious. Service is always attentive. We are looking forward to returning to Hugo’s.
Dined here on a Saturday with a group of friends and we had a great time! Price points were normal and very reasonable and the food was great!! For appetizers, we had the ahi tuna, escargot, and crab cakes. The escargot was perfect and the crab cakes were very meaty, huge, and some of the best I have ever had. I detest restaurants that skimp on the meat with loads of breading.
For dinner, the filets all around and steak salads were clear winners as well as the brusseIs sprouts and double baked potato; so good! I had the king crab stuffed shrimp and it was not my favorite. It had a sweet aftertaste that I did not particularly care for. We were so stuffed that the only dessert we chose was the key lime and it was not good. While the presentation was pretty, it tasted way to eggy and we were not impressed.
I will definitely come back as they have a lot of seafood dishes that I would love to try and their wine list is top notch!
The service was impeccable. The menu had a nice variety and the signature lobster bisque was outstanding. Unfortunately I believe we didn’t choose the best entrees. I don’t recommend the mahi mahi which was overly peppery with tasteless salsa and while the short rib risotto was tasty, it didn’t pair well with pan fried scallops. Key lime pie was generously proportioned for sharing and yummy. Good place for special occasions because of the service but probably should opt for the steaks on the menu.
We had a wonderful dinner for my husbands 60th Birthday. Started with the delicious frog legs and stone crab. Outstanding! Entrees were a petite filet for me, perfectly seasoned and medium rare. Husband had the bone in ribeye, medium rare and a side of king crab leg, moist and tender. Service was not lacking, always a waiter around asking if everything was to our satisfaction. We have been here many times over the years and have never left being disappointed. Highly recommended.
Just celebrated the wife's birthday here this past weekend. While I'm easy to please, she is quite the foodie with very high standards. She was quite happy with my choice to surprise her with a birthday lunch at Hugo's. She had the sea bass and clam chowder. I had some oysters and the lobster roll.
While Hugo's doesn't have an official kid's menu, just ask and they can whip up different kid friendly favorites. Our daughter loved her grilled cheese.
Overall, great food and exceptional service.
There were four people in our party. We began with calamari—delicious. Everyone shared entrees: crab cakes with a side of Brussels sprouts, crab stuffed shrimp, halibut with squash gnocchi, & shrimp & grits. Everything was tasty—but I am getting the halibut & not sharing next time! We also shared black bottom pie—huge ice cream dessert—plenty for four people. We will definitely go back!
This Hugos location has missed the mark on the food on multiple occasions for me, unfortunately. The lobster was overcooked and tasted more like chicken than seafood. And the NY strip was nicely medium rare, but tough and dry. Clam chowder was good, as was the key lime pie. Oh, and the broccoli side was laughable - just a steamed broccoli crown. Drinks were fine, but charged at Chicago prices. I used to love Hugos too! Oh well, I'll still probably come back, but maybe just get a burger next time.
