Private Dining: HUGO & SONS is happy to offer a private dining room option in our Pizzeria. The room is ideal for groups of up to 16 people seated at our communal dining table. With exposed brick walls and the roar of the pizza oven in the background, it"s a beautiful and inviting setting to hold an intimate gathering for brunch lunch or dinner.
HUGO & SONS is located on the east side of the street.
We went to celebrate my daughter's 24th birthday. It was a Wednesday night and the place was packed. Glad I made a reservation as we were a large party. We sat at the bar to start waiting for everyone. The oysters deal at the bar kicked things off. Then the food at the table which was amazing (and they even had chicken fingers and fries for the kids). Service was great too from the bartender to the waiter and waitress. Go and have fun!
The food was delightful and the wine prices were great!
Top notch all around! From the moment we walked-in, we felt welcome. Drinks were perfect (I favor the Aviation cocktail!) and the food - as superb as always! Love the new steak dish on the menu. One of my friends had the salmon, which was also outstanding. Service we consistently great throughout the evening. Thanks for a great meal and a great time!
Atmosphere was OK - nothing special but not bad in any way. Service was good by both the bus staff and waiter. The brussels sprouts appetizer was excellent (a tad salty) but very very good. The Fiamma pizza was not good and the Steak was absolutely terrible. It does not say it on the menu, but the steak comes out completely encrusted in peppercorns to the point where we had to cut off all of the edges in order to eat it. The menu reads that its served with a peppercorn sauce which is entirely different.
Love the casual feel, live jazz, delicious food. Great enjoyment!
Great food , great service. I will be coming back here for sure.
I like this place - I have been two times so far and each time had a really hard time hearing the conversation. I found the music great but too loud for 8 pm dinner. The space is small enough - and with people sitting fairly close - that I don't like having to compete with the music.
The food exceeded all expectations, the ambiance was perfect for a casual date night and the service was unbelievable. We ended up sitting at the bar for dinner and not moving to a table because the bar was perfect. Can’t beat $1 oysters either to pair with our perfect and innovative cocktails!
Brunch options are excellent!
The food was delicious as always! But we missed the pastas that used to be a big part of the menu. The brown butter pumpkin mezzalune were incredible.
My wife and I went here before a show and were very impressed with the food and service... Top notch... Highly recommend it. The only con is that its very family friendly so theres lots of children. Otherwise its a fantastic place.
Wait for reserved table although restaurant wasn’t that busy. 30 min wait for drinks. Later learned they had been out of vodka, at noon! Service overall terrible.
Service was abysmal. we had 6 people at brunch. After 40 minutes, we got food for 3, some of our drinks and no milk for coffee. Also a dirty glass wasn't replaced. After another 30 minutes we got some of the rest of our food. Meal was comped but will never return. People were walking out left and right
We sat near the window overlooking all the activity of Oark Slope at sunset! Great food and ambiance.
The service was slow and the food was not as well prepared as previous visits.
Initially waitress brought out wrong dishes; then everyone was served except for one person who did not get her food until others had finished eating. Also we did not get water or condiments when requested. The restaurant was understaffed. Salad was much too salty--and I like salt.
They have amazing bartenders! I always order a Gran Torino, squid ink risotto ball, devil eggs and a great pizza. Nice atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant. Great flower pots!
Great get-together with an old friend. We chose the right place! Wonderful cocktails (love the Aviation - and unfortunately the bartender knows me by now, so as I walk in... the drink arrives at my table! Love it!) and great food. Our server, as usual, was on-point with every detail. We enjoy how the team seems to all get along and help each other. Thanks for another great evening!
Our favorite cocktail? Gran Torino!
A definite yes to the squid ink risotto ball and devil eggs! All the pizzas are fabulous!
As fantastic as always! We needed a mini-date night and got it. Food was really, really good - as always. We also enjoy the friendly and efficient service. Thanks for always making us feel welcome and allowing us to enjoy a superb meal!
My husband ordered a salmon entree for $24. It was the size of an appetizer with a small piece of fish, three small Yukon potatoes and a sprinkle of wilted greens that served as the "salad." It was a total rip off. I ordered steak frites which was about twice as much food overall though it was served basically raw and I had to send it back. My daughters pasta was tasty and my sons pizza was small but tasty. The $5 bread basket is was also very small and a rip off. The ambiance is pleasant but the acoustics are terrible and the restaurant was loud even when half empty. My husband asked for a taste of the "orange" wine and he never got it. The wait staff was aloof at best. I would not go back.
There was confusion with seating and our reservations even though there was plenty of open tables. So noisy that the waiter did not hear our request for 1 of the appetisers. It seemed like they were understaffed.
Food came out at different times. Really slow to come too. Thought it may have been one off but my friend had the same experience there.
As outstanding as always! Celebrated the "welcome" of colleagues to NYC, and Brooklyn, with other NYC friends. Had a 4-year old with us. Not a problem; he even got crayons from our server! Service was excellent, and I love how they all work together, including the bartender... He knows my favorite drink and my glass was never empty for long - including our guests. The food - Wow! Every choice was outstanding, fresh and full of fun and unique flavors. Thank you H&S team for a wonderful evening... and thanks to one of our favorite Chefs for coming out to greet us and our guests...
Great service, awesome menu selections, pleasant vibe & ambiance
Food is fantastic, great ambiance. Staff is very friendly, although took some effort to get server's attention; pacing of service was a bit off at times. Big picture though, great place!
Outstanding, as always. I so appreciate our server and chef for being so wonderfully accommodating to my colleague with multiple food allergies. Everything was perfect. Our menu choices great! Thank you all very much!
We had brunch at 10:30 on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded so we were able to leave our stroller at the table. A big win with a sleeping baby! The food was all delicious, they had a wide range of items and everything was pretty reasonably priced. I would definitely go back here!
Delicious food and wonderful service!
This place is excellent. The food is as close as you can get to eating in Italy or France. Staff is very professional and the ambience is great.
This place never fails- food
& service were excellent!
Such a great neighborhood place with solid food. Most people seem to go for the pizza but this place is so much more, try any of their fish dishes which change depending on the season. The service is also great, not to mention a really friendly bartender making wonder cocktails.
We have gone to Hugo & Sons since it first opened and it has been our family go-to neighborhood restaurant. We booked a table to celebrate our daughter's graduation. We arrived early and had to wait 20 mins until our exact reservation time which was fine. We already knew what we wanted to order when we finally sat down because we had come from a 2 hour graduation and everyone was starving. It took 10 minutes for our server to come by to ask for our drink order. I told her we were ready to order the full meal - so we did. The appetizers came our fairly quick but then we waited a 30 minutes for the entrees to come out. Only 3 out of 7 of us got our meals. Another 30 minutes went by and we asked the waitress and the manager what was going on and reminded them that we wanted to eat our entrees together. Finally the next dishes came out and all the food was burnt and cold. At that point we had lost our patience. Our daughter's graduation celebration was ruined. She was hungry and had a plate of burnt food that she waited 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive. They took the burnt food off the check and gave us a 10% discount on top of it but I still can't wrap my head around why they served us burnt, cold food one hour after we ordered it and why they didn't immediately come to the table with something else as a substitute. We won't be going back.
Came here for Father's Day and it was great. The inside is inviting and so are the staff. They were upbeat and make the experience enjoyable. My dad really enjoyed this place. I had the chocolate waffle which was delicious and my dad had the acai bowl.
Hugo and Sons was just recently a very satisfying experience, pretty good pizzas and simple pasta and bistro-style fare at reasonable prices. My wife said their Aviation cocktails were excellent. But this trip indicated that something has gone wrong. My pizza was adequate, but my wife's steak frites was smothered in chimichurri sauce (steak frites?), the frites were soggy, and our companion's "wild" (no way) salmon was buried in giant mint leaves (salmon and mint?). And the Aviation flew only at low altitude. The place was, as usual, packed, but don't expect that to last long unless the food recovers its footing. The one bright spot is that the "one-third" wine offerings are relative bargains, given generally obscene wine prices everywhere.
Hugo & Sons has turned into one of our favorite places. We especially love their fried artichoke dish and Aviator cocktail.
Great pizza, fabulous special, classy, attentive service (thank you Holly), a really nice night.
Lovely and lively place. A little too noisy after 8, but otherwise excellent. Love the oysters!
We really love this restaurant. The food is always delicious and its hard to decide on what to order, but they also have enough simple options for one of our kids who is picky. I also love the setting -- it's got a lovely aesthetic. Neighborhood gem.
Fantastic, as usual! Great specials, and great service!
