Hudson Grille - Stamford Ratings and Reviews
Service was OK in the beginning but then the waiter went missing for long periods of time.
Spinach & artichoke appetizer was pretty good. The broccoli rabe orachette lacked flavor and was overly bitter. Desserts were above average.
Conclusion: OK but not great. Don't see a need to return.
I asked for something off menu (spicy mussels in red sauce over capellini). Not only did they deliver, they DELIVERED!! That dish was amazing! Just the perfect amount of spicy, the sauce was the perfect consistency. And Max the bartender was kind enough to make me a delicious gin cocktail. I love hudson!
I was celebrating my friends birthday , she lives in Stamford so we went to Hudson grille it was my first time there and I will definitely return . Food and service was excellent . Starting with the cocktails which were a treat . We stayed for the late night and had a great nite over all. I'm looking forward to my next night out in Stamford .
My fiance and I went there last night (Monday) with another couple for a Restaurant Week dinner. If you’re thinking of checking Hudson Grille out for dinner, especially for Restaurant Week, the best advice I can give you is DO NOT GO! I have tried so many places in Stamford and this place honestly was terrible. I won’t bore you with a play by play but here’s a summary of our experience:
1. Short rib on RW menu
2. Butternut squash bisque
They give edamame, not bread to start?
1. Ordered spinach & artichoke dip to start (outside RW menu) since we were hungry. What arrived was a green soupy mush topped with square deli slices of cheese, with crunchy (borderline stale) pita
2. The service was SO slow. We sat with menus forever after getting the dip, with the owner looking on from the host stand & our server nowhere in sight. We had to ask the food runner to get our waiter for us to order our main meals
3. If branzino is offered as the market fish for RW (or ever), avoid! It was razor thin, mostly skin. It wasn't what we expected & it was disappointing. We expressed our disappointment to the owner & all he said was that’s just how it comes. He also said that RW portions are smaller than regular portions. I’m not sure if this is a standard across all participating RW restaurants & I’ve just been naïve but to hear an owner admit that he provides smaller portions at a “discount” of $5–that was crazy to me! He never apologized or tried to make things right. I feel the proper way to handle this situation would have been to offer a new meal or at least remove the charge for the dish
4. The “special” RW menu is not special. The exact prix fixe menu is printed on their menu & is available outside of restaurant week. Had I known this before, I would have chosen a different place
5. My ice cream had ice chunks throughout it but I didn’t bring this to the owner’s attention because I’m sure I would have gotten the same response of “that’s just how it comes.”
I love Hudson Grille for lunch, dinner, or late night cocktails! The atmosphere is great and the lighting is nice and romantic. If you come for late night cocktails, they also have great music or a dj! The bartenders are always awesome as well and the manager is very nice and says hello to everyone! Highly recommend!
We decided to try Hudson Grille because it is right down the street and seems to be a popular place. We were there celebrating a birthday and had a dinner reservation for 8:30. We shared a number of the "small plates" and were generally pleased with them. The dishes ranged from "good but nothing extra special" to "very delicious." I would definitely consider dining there again. Service was good and the atmosphere was enjoyable. The restaurant was pretty full but was not too loud.
Food was good, ambiance was good, but the service was awful. The waiter brought us glasses of water and then we didn't see him for 15-20 minutes, and we were eager to order our early dinners. When we finally did order and get our meals, the waiter did not come by at all to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. I could see if the place was busy, but it was pretty empty as it was about 4:30pm -- well before the dinner rush. In summary, they need to hire more professional wait staff to survive in the competitive downtown restaurant scene.
This was my third time at this restaurant. We were treating my husband for his birthday. The food is always amazing. We usually order several small plates but this time I ordered an entree (salmon pasta) and it was amazing. Our particular server was a little slow on this visit. It took her a long time to check on our table. She was friendly though. Service here is typically great. I took a doggie bag and warmed my food in the oven two days later. It was still delicious. We will definitely return.
We got there around 245' I had a 315 reservation, they still had the brunch menu out, I asked them if it was possible to get dinner menus instead since it was our wedding day, they accommodated and the appetizers, champagne, main courses, wine and dessert was superb, thank you Hudson Grill for making our special day even more special, and the waiter was on point!!!!!!
Food was great. Service was good. They forgot a couple of our orders so the server comped our drinks. They turned into a busy bar while we were there. My husband went to the restroom. As soon as he got up, a staff person took his chair while I was still sitting at the table. That was a little tacky because it felt like they were rushing us out to make room for the bar patrons. Aside from that, we would likely go again, perhaps on a week night. The food and the gluten-free items on the menu were delicious.
There were 11 of us for Sunday brunch, including 5 kids. Enough options for all and the food was good. Service was slow and it was difficult to get our server's attention. Food and dessert took a long time to come out, which made everyone pretty restless and anxious to leave. The restaurant was not even busy.
I went with my girlfriend and a friend. I don't usually go to Hudson at night because it can be kind of a douchy bar, but I had eaten at the one in White Plains and knew the food was pretty good so we figured we would try it for dinner. The food was consistent and very tasty. I got the sliced steak sandwich and it was very flavorful. The service on the other hand was not good. Our waiter was the douchy type that is found at the bar late night and was more focused on flirting with the table next to us than providing good service. He forgot to order my sandwich with the other food! Then when he realized he went "I f%@ed up, and gave it to another table." Completely unprofessional, and I won't be going back to eat.
We were seated very close to where the bar patrons were, and had to walk through a billowing cloud of smoke to even enter the restaurant.(People hang out outside drinking and smoking--not conducive to a family celebration). Next, regarding the food, win the past, we had a very delicious salmon dish with an Asian glaze--now its plain salmon on top of a filled crepe--not good, sort of a melange of things--very pedestrian. We had a mishap by ordering haricots vert--they came with pieces of bacon--whoever heard of such a preparation in the first place, and secondly why wasn't the bacon mentioned in the description on the menu? Other issues regarding timing of the courses and lack of attentiveness made the evening less than stellar.
I've been to the Hudson Grille quite a few times. It is easily one of my favorite places to eat in Stamford.
The atmosphere is the perfect mix of "first date" and "drinks with buddies." The design of the restaurant makes it conducive to both nice, small intimate dinners and a lively, social bar scene.
I suggest the "tapas" route--order a bunch of appetizers and split them, they are all delicious. The bar also makes a mean old fashioned--I suggest the Oban.
Love the White Plains Hudson Grille so we tried the Stamford location before a show at the Palace theater on Friday night. Beautiful décor, very good food and menu. Ridiculously loud from so many big happy parties of adults, Service was very slow. Caesar salads arrived after a long wait without the fourth appetizer which finally came with the main course after we had to remind the waitress about it. One of the entrees was wrong and swept up without any discussion to be replaced. The new dish arrived well after everyone else had finished their meal. At the end, they did not charge us for that appetizer or 4th entrée and were apologetic about our experience but we would never go back on a weekend evening.
Visiting Stamford for night to see adult son. Another two restaurants were recommended but were too busy. Booked this one at last minute. What a lucky find. Very attentive and knowledgable staff. Ambitious menu, good beer selection, adequate wines by the glass. Will definitely visit again. Not good for families with children, at least at dinner.
My husband and I had dinner on a Saturday night - we found the service to be extremely attentive and prompt. The good itself was very good; my husband especially enjoyed the monkfish and they were conscientious regarding my dietary restriction. We will definitely go back!
