What could possibly be the reason for the bright, harsh lighting? It ruins the atmosphere.
An oasis in the NY Botanical Garden, bliss after fighting the crowds at the Xmas Train show. Reserved through OpenTable, we came in from the cold and were seated immediately. Our waiter was perfect NYC - funny, helpful. Farm to Table and prepared when ordered - have a drink or appetizer as you will wait a while for your food. Go for the daily specials, especially the soup which was delicious. Wine choice acceptable. A bit noisy but that may have been related to the holiday show. Overall, recommended!
This is a delightful restaurant, with frequently changing menus to complement the seasons. We always make a reservation to be sure we can have lunch at the Hudson Grill while we're visiting the botanical gardens.
I eat gluten free, and my husband and I both often choose vegetarian meals. This restaurant offers both, plus great beef, chicken, and fish options.
It's a lovely, relaxing, fun dining experience each time we eat there.
Excellent food and service, this is a wonderful restaurant
My husband and I had lunch here after the Holiday Train Show. The ambiance is lovely and the food was delicious! Our waitress, CC, was so sweet. We will return on our next visit to NYBG ♡
It's become a tradition for us to wrap a visit to the Train Show with lunch at Hudson Grill. Attractive decor, terrific food, good service- a hidden gem!
The New York Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to visit, year round. Even in the month of Dec, the grounds might be bare, but the major greenhouse has wonderful displays including cactus, ferns, rain forest type vegetation and other plants. The train show is also happening. That said one might want to take a break and have a cocktail with lunch. If that is the case head over to the Hudson Garden Grill. You may pay more here that at the cafe by the main entrance, but you are able to have a nice sit down served lunch that tastes very good. Prices, well you are in New York City area, so cocktails can be $14.00 and a great burger can be $20.00. Worth it? yes. We have come down from Connecticut four different times this year and have enjoyed the changing plants and seasons at the gardens and the changing menu at the Hudson Garden Grill.
A treat at the NY Botanical Gardens. It makes the day special.
Had lunch here after visiting the Holiday Train Show. We thought the menu options were excellent. The food and service were very good to excellent. We look forward to coming back when the weather is warmer and we can sit outdoors overlooking the garden.
Very pleasant experience!
Always enjoy our meals at the Hudson Garden Grill in the New York botanical Garden’s. Enjoy the changing seasonal menus. Always have outstanding service. (Missed having a salad, but understand that it wasn’t an option for the restaurant)
Had a delicious lunch. Food is seasonal and very tasty. Cocktails were great! Service was very efficient. Our server was personable!
I have written rave reviews before, but I must confess my latest visit was a disappointment. Ominously I also discovered there is a new caterer on board.
Ordered the hamburger. Cooked to order but lukewarm. Fries were also lukewarm and limp and slightly greasy. Ordered the cheesecake. Way too much gelatin. Almost rubbery. Way to little cheese favor. Not good at all. I hope this is just growing pains but I fear the Hudson Grill i lived is gone.
Chicken tacos for my child were cold. Shrimp and grits was mediocre. Grilled chicken (on salad) was extremely dry.
The staff is always very friendly here! The burger and lava cake were superb.
This is the second time we have been there. What a lovely place. It is a little gem in the Botannical Gardens. Would like to eat there every time I go.
We saw the Train Show and then had lunch at The Garden Grill. All were excellent and fun.
Nice restaurant in a great setting. The rotating menu is generally solid with the salads often very good.
Food was fine, but more options are needed to include additional sandwiches. After dinner liqueur choices to accompany cappuccinos would be a nice addition to the menu. Our servers were attentive and efficient. The kitchen expediter keep the line focused and moving.
Great food and there are gluten-free options too. Love the ambiance and the prices are reasonable.
A Pleasant Surprise. We went after the Train Show on 12/1. The restaurant is pleasant, its light and airy they have very relaxing background music and the service was excellent. Having read some of the reviews I was a bit apprehensive but the food was quite good (burger and crunchy chicken salad, which you can have grilled) If you are at the NYBG this is a great venue to stop and have a meal. Its not inexpensive but what is in NY and we felt very pleased when we left (and quite full) We will stop back the next time we come here
We had a lovely visit to the Garden and Train Show, capped off by a delicious lunch! Our server Tianna was amazing, super friendly and helpful. She checked up on us without being obtrusive and anticipated our every culinary need. We will definitely be back!
Had to give the "service" a two star rating because the hostess lied to us about a previous reservation at a table that we requested. Otherwise, this is a favorite restaurant of ours.
An absolutely fabulous end to a visit to the Botanical Garden and the train show. The food was delicious and our waiter was fabulous. He made us feel so welcome and went out of his way to accommodate my friend who needs to be gluten free
Never disappoints. Food original, creative. Service is excellent.
Very good food and service. Pleanty of gluten free options. I enjoyed a delicious
meal consisting of Arctic Char with Brussels Sprouts. The wine list is also very good. This is such a wonderful place for wonderful food when visiting the New York Botanical Gardens. It's really the only convenient place for a restaurant experience located in the Garden.
Always a pleasure. Great service. Enjoyable at all seasons and best of all delicious food.
It’s the nicest restaurant in the Garden, and the price reflects that. If you’re not headed to Arthur Ave, this is the classy alternative.
We were seated promptly with menus. Waitress wanted to take our order within 2 minutes—we hadn’t even looked at menu yet. Had to ask her to take our drink order. Ordered the coq au vin, then waitress apologized and said they were out of it. Had butternut squash Mac and cheese instead, tasted like regular Mac and cheese, no butternut squash in it. Steak frites was done to order. Waitress never offered us a dessert menu. We had to ask for coffee.
Food, ambiance and the wait staff were nice and attentive.. I had the burger and fries.. was flavorful... Recommend it.. it was a nice respite fro the chill outside ..
Love this restaurant.
We attended NYBG holiday train show exhibit & had lunch beforehand. There were 3 of us, each choosing a different entree. Our server was professional, had great suggestions & made our dining experience very enjoyable. Perfect way to start our Thanksgiving holiday weekend!
I think the food was prepared early and got dry and unAppatizing. I would go there on early side of their service. They took 2 out of 4 meals off bill. Everything else is lovely.
Restaurants is located in the NY BOTANICAL Gardens
Excellent food, service & ambiance. Make reservations, sometimes busy, Parking is $17 bucks, close to rest. The Haupt Conservatory steps away, see The Holiday Train Show. Good portions. Try the pumpkin cornbread, shrimp w/grits, chilli soup or burger, all good, from farm to the table. Enjoy.
No gluten free option. Medium rare burger request came as more than well done. Salads high priced and poor. Expensive for what you get. Nice room. Nice people.
Friendly staff and creative menus. Enjoyed the seasonal cocktails. Wait staff attentive and accomodating.
Ron, our waiter was fabulous, and I live for the buttermilk chicken cobb salad! It cannot be improved upon, and it's my favorite.
A pleasant spot in the NYBG. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the food. I had Thai Mussels. They were delicious, one friend had salad that had very fresh ingredients, and the other had an omelet. We were all pleased with the food and service.A pleasant experience.
This was our second visit here. Last time we sat outside on the patio but this time as it was a chilly November day we were happy to be in the dining room which overlooked the gardens. I had a very nice vegetarian chili and veggie burger. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was so nice to be able to actually have a conversation because in many restaurants it gets too loud!
I like how they change the menu with the seasons... we will be back.
Service was a little slow. App arrived before cocktails. Wrong side for one dish. Nice, but nothing special.
