About Huber's Restaurant
Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

Huber's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Huber's is a Portland classic, opening in 1879. The decor pulls you back into another era, but the food is in the here and now. The restaurant is known for its roast turkey dinners and Spanish coffees. We ordered both and were not disappointed. We finished with an excellent slice of pumpkin pie.
Absolutely horrible. They gave away our table when we were early, not a huge deal but just the beginning. Second we were seated and waited 10 minutes for menus, once our waitress finally came over she had a fit about how we didn’t get our menus and that made her job more work. The food did come quickly, which was great, but we were not given silverware, waited for 10 minutes again for any waiter to bring some (asked multiple times). My husband ordered a drink and never received it. My husbands food was bland with no flavor, we never saw our waitress again to ask or get help. I went to use the restroom and it was utterly disgusting, toilet paper all over the floor and just filthy; I ran out quick. We were very excited for Huber’s as it had been recommended to us multiple times and now we will NEVER return and will not recommend to anyone.
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. You step inside and it feels like you’ve been transported back in time to the 1920’s. And you have to have the Spanish Coffee! It is a performance all on its own-amazing! The staff was super attentive and the food was delicious with decent portions. I can’t wait to pay Huber’s another visit!
It was fun to see a place that's been around so long and yet is still so busy and cheerful. (It's a little odd that the front room - with windows on the street - was empty while the back room, with the great décor was cheerfully busy; apparently a deliberate arrangement by management.) We had a good meal with attentive service. I'd go back.
I had the chioppino, which was very good. The shrimp were a little rubbery, so probably the frozen cooked kind, but the mussels were terrific. Not the best chioppino I have had (that's in Vancouver BC) but still a good meal.
We have visited Huber's every October for the last four years to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. Food and service are always great. This year we noticed our server Michelle might have not been up to her game. When asking questions about different appetizers she showed no interest in encouraging us one way or the other. Hopefully she'll have better days in the future.
Unfortunately, Huber's did not live up to their normal exceptional service and food. I have been a customer of their establishment since approximately 1989 and have always received exceptional service and exceptional food and drinks, but this last Saturday, October 7th was a huge exception. Following is a list of my frustrations with our experience:
1.We had reservations for 8 PM to celebrate my wife's coming up birthday on October 10th. We arrived approximately 30 minutes early and indicated this when we arrived, expecting that we could wait in the lounge area until our table was ready. Yet the hostess seemed put off by the fact that we were early and made an offhanded remark about our table not being ready, because we were really early.
2.When the busboy brought a water refill for my wife he turned and the water spilled on my wife's left arm and he just proceeded to walk away without any apology or attempting to clean up the mess.
3.My wife ordered a lemon drop for her first drink and it was really very poorly made and tasted very little like lemon at all.
4.Our appetizers (steamer clams and shrimp cocktail) were wonderful, as well as my Montreal Gorgonzola Filet dinner, but my wife's Wallapa Bay Oysters were subpar. The first few that she ate were wonderful, but the remainder were either undercooked or something else was wrong with them, as they were kind of doughy/gummy.
5.We were never brought or offered any home-baked beer bread.
6.I had indicated that we were celebrating a birthday, but there was absolutely no mention of it during our dining experience.
Always charming and entertaining. Mr. James Loui has greeted us on every occasion. (we have dined with Hubers alone, with friends, and entire staff gatherings) The amazing food, wonderful service and personal touch brings us "home" to Hubers over and over!
This is the best place in town for Spanish coffee. It is legendary - try the iced Spanish coffee, they are to die for! Meals are awesome - get the traditional turkey/ham dinners or salmon or halibut, it is all excellent! The bar is very, very busy, you definitely need reservations! It is worth the wait.....I loved it!
Although known for their turkey meals, none in our group got that. Some got the cioppino which they said was good. I had the Lamb with their 5 spice seasonings and it was outstanding. We also had spanish coffee for which they are known. Fun to watch. Very good venue and not too noisy or crowded.
My 2nd visit here and the meal was yummy, 4 Turkey dinners and a Garlic Prawn dish. Side of wings, 1 Special Coffee and 3 slices of Pumpkin Pie.
This is where my last review of 5 stars stopped and I dropped my current review to 3 stars.
Our service was a tad spacey. We had to ask several times for the Beer Bread, which by the way is wonderful.
The appetizer we ordered arrived at the same time as the main course and this was a good 30+ minutes after we sat down.
When we were through with our main meal, we ordered coffees and pie.
The Special Coffee was a nice treat and entertaining to watch the person making the coffee. But he was rather abrupt and when a friend asked if she could take a picture of the process, he said no. No explanation, just no. He did his thing, served it to my friend and just walked away, no "enjoy", "my pleasure", nothing. If this is "your job" get in to it, your guests certainly are and wish to engage with you. Drop the attitude.
All the pies were served and after 5 or so minutes, we had to track down our server to get forks and spoons for the coffee.
This was not the service I was used to and maybe it was just an "off night", but you should hear about good and odd experiences.
Very nicely done ! I hadn't been there for years. The service was very good. We were a party of six. It would have been nice to sit next to my wife rather than across from her. A round table could have worked better for A party of six. You've been in business for a good 125 years I would imagine you have a pretty good handle on what works and what doesn't. Thanks for a good time.
I have gone to Huber's for their Spanish Coffee, it is so fun to watch when being made and it tastes even better! I have gone to the bar area which was great to hang out and chat and watch the bar tenders make their drinks. I have also gone recently for a bachelorette party dinner. It was very simple to make the reservations online and I was even called to confirm number of people so they could let us know which area we would be seated in. The food menu looked a little unappealing at first but after ordering and sharing the garlic prawns and a three course meal for the traditional half and half turkey and ham meal plus pumpkin pie... it was all so delicious! We had a magician come up after we were done with our meal for a couple of tricks too and he was so friendly and pretty mind blowing! Overall, we had a great time. I live in CA and always make this a place to stop when I visit. I will definitely return for their happy hour in the future.
What can I say, the waitress did not hover nor did she ignore us when we needed something she was there. The food was wonderful. The style and grace of the bartender as he made our iced Spanish coffees was a joy to watch. Overall whether I just want to have a nice meal or take my wife out for a romantic night Huber's is where I will be going.
