About Huber's Restaurant

Established in 1879, Huber's is Portland's Oldest Restaurant. It was originally called the "Bureau Saloon". Mr. Huber was involved from the beginning as a bartender, bought out the original owner then changed the name to Huber's.
In the old days if you bought a drink you got a free turkey sandwich. This is how the turkey tradition started. Today Huber's cooks 150 lbs of turkey a day. It's Thanksgiving everyday at Huber's serving a traditional turkey dinner every day. We also serve Certified Angus Beef and fresh seafood. Huber's is also known for its famous Spanish Coffee. The drink is made table-side with great fanfare. It's is a lot of fun and very tasty. Come in and enjoy Old Portland at its best.

Great restaurant great food great staff but they seated us in a 2 chair walk table with a corner pillar type fixiture behind each of our chairs and the bar 2 feet to the other side so it was cramped and it felt like we were sitting in the walkway

Spanish coffee' s were great. But not one of the staff members smiled or tried to engage in conversation, not only with our group but with other groups as well. Owner might as well of hired robots if he does not want the staff to engage with the customers.

This is always a stop for girls weekend. Gotta have Spanish coffee and the spinach and artichoke dip. Super fun atmosphere. It's loud, but there's a lot of energy!

Good food, unique environment, annoying magician.

The food at Huber's tends to be pretty standard American fare, but it's well prepared and presented. The back dining room is an experience all by itself -- it's a little like traveling back in time. The bar can make anything you want and the coffee drink is worth getting just to see them make it.

Not happy with the service. Waiter was not nice,he seemed irritated right off the bat. Busser was not nice either. We had to ask 3 different times for more coffee and hot water for tea. We even put our cups on the edge of the table like hint hint. We have been there now 3 times. The first 2 times were amazing but this last time was disappointing and it was my husband's 55th birthday.

Oldest restaurant in PDX! Classic menu, lots of food options, most of which (but not all) are top notch. Love watching a Spanish coffee being made. The noise level however was louder than any restaurant I've been to in a very long time--I could not hear my grandmother sitting across from me at all.

Restaurant was practically empty, but we still waited almost 40 min for our food. Our server was nice, but she was absent a lot, which was surprising considering how few other diners were there. Food was lackluster. I was disappointed. This isn't the Huber's I remembered.

We went to Huber’s before the Blazers game. I had a yen for turkey. Their $22 special (soup/salad, turkey and a choice of dessert) was the selection for two of us. The soup and turkey were great, but I was disappointed in the bread pudding which was dense and cold. I ended my meal with their signature Spanish coffee (still a great after dinner drink). We sat in the bar which was jammed due to happy hour. All-in-all a good but not great meal experience.

Huber's is a Portland gem; one of the oldest restaurants in Portland and amazingly, one of the best. Great service, the turkey is perfect (after 100+ years, they obviously know what they are doing)! Two bar areas, lots of space... There is a rumor that the restaurant could possibly be closing in the coming few years, GET IN HERE NOW!!

We had eaten here before and had an excellent experience. However our experience this time didn't start off so well. We went in at 5:30 and the front area was almost completely empty. We were informed they had no tables available the entire night. We were told we could check back in 45 minutes to see if there was anything available but to not expect anything. I went to the car, got onto Open table app and saw they had available tables for the next 2 hours! I made a reservation in the car for 6. When we walked back in, the hostess was about to tell me they still had no tables. I interrupted her and told her to look at her reservation book. She then securely led us to a table. The food was fine, but they no longer had the panna cotta on the menu. Disappointing. When we left around 7:30 the front was still with empty tables. Not sure when those folks were going to show up.

We had reservations for a party of six. I was impressed that the restaurant called to confirm on the day of our reservation (most do not) and we were also seated early in a nice roomy booth. There was absolutely no wait. The wait person came over right away and was very attentive the entire evening (we actually closed down the place) and she was so nice. Loved how they made their signature Spanish coffee. It was quite the production and it was well worth the extra tip. We only ordered appetizers but they were VERY tasty! The spinach and artichoke dip was awesome and we kept sending her back for more. The clam chowder was better than I have tasted in a long time and she ended up getting a bowl for everyone at the table. The only downside is the food is a little on the pricey side even with appetizers, so pay attention to what you order. Our rounds of appetizers and drinks came close to $200. Other than that, I would heartily recommend Huber's. It has a great atmosphere and ambiance. Next time I visit Portland, I will definitely head that way.

Hubers has always been in my restaurant repertoire but its been a while since I visited. I kicked off my birthday celebration month there, so much fun noshing on appetizers (you simply MUST HAVE the spicy prawns! but not on a date, lots of garlic) and downing Spanish Coffees. John was our man that nite and he's always fun to chat with. Hubers is a classic gem and I always look forward to visiting!

My wife and I had dinner once before in the front of the restaurant and the service, food and atmosphere was perfect. We were excited to return and brought our family in for our daughters birthday. Sadly we were seated in the back area which was very loud, the server, she was less than aconidating or friendly, and the meals were simply adequate. We will go again as I support restaurants that have a history to tell as it adds to the ambiance. I will request a table in the front room and a server that has been with the restaurant awhile.

We had an evening of contrasts: the calamari was dry and tasteless but the roast turkey dinner (a specialty) was delicious. Our server was a bit pushy and loud but the gentleman who made our Spanish coffees was great (we recommend the Spanish coffee for both presentation and taste). The hostess messed up our reservation, made multiple excuses and then denied what she said, but the manager on duty was friendly and very professional. Despite the disappointments, we enjoyed our meal. Huber’s is a solid bet for comfort food and a cozy dining room. The bar is larger and louder, which can also be fun.

It was my aniversay and wanted to have a nice dinner with my wife before blazer game. I made reservations. We seen that a booth was open and asked for it, but was told it was reserved.
It took over an hour for our dinner, only seen the waitress maybe twice in that time.
She didn't ask if we needed anything else. Brought us the check while we still were eating and didn't show us desert menu. I really enjoyed the Spanish coffee and the over setting. Maybe just a better waitress

Great food. From comfort food to unique creations, the food was fabulous. The restaurant has interesting features and history. The barkeep made excellent drinks. Yet, the main event is watching the making of the Irish coffee, and drinking afterwards. I will definitely come again.

Our friends had a less than stellar Christmas so we all went out to Huber's to celebrate and be with them. They said that the experience made it feel like Christmas to them and were very grateful. The food and drinks were also excellent, especially the Spanish Coffees (yes plural) we had. Thank you.

Really disappointed in the food and the service. Our waitress was very dismissive and uninformative. The person who filled our waters spilled water and ice and left it for us to clean up. The food was bland, way under seasoned and some of our food was cold. We were so excited to go to one of the most iconic restaurants in Portland to celebrate our son and daughters birthdays - a yearly tradition. Unfortunately it was a big let down for all of us. I left a review on Yelp along the same lines as this review and the manager at Huber's did respond and asked for a call back so he could hear more details. It was a very nice call - he was apologetic and concerned that we didn't have a good experience. It shows that they care which goes a long way with me. However I doubt we will return as it was very expensive and we aren't willing to gamble that it was just a fluke and a rare bad night for them.

I’ve loved Huber’s since first eating there 35 years ago. The turkey is great, of course. But they do a fine job with steaks and fish as well. Great service, great history, a great story, and very good, straightforward food. I’ve eaten there dozens of times and enjoyed every one.

We love Huber's and have eaten there for many years. We planned our most recent meals with friends, who are also long time customers. The food was excellent, the service excellent and Huber's is always charming, BUT the noise level was beyond "energetic." It was mind-numbing, making conversation almost impossible. I'm not sure what you can do about customers who think they are at a football game. It was a holiday weekend night and seemed more crowded than normal and that may have escalated the noise. Perhaps you can put cards on the tables reminding people to use their "inside voices." I feel for your staff, who must go home with ears ringing.

Really a great place. The vibe is loud but not from music, it is loud because of all the lively conversations going on at all of the tables. Very good food, not experimental in anyway but solid basic American/Continental Cuisine.

Huber's is a Portland institution and provides comfort food, both literally and figuratively. From the complete turkey dinners to the Spanish coffees, you know exactly what you're going to get at Huber's. They're good at what they do, very reliable, very consistent. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of their service.

For a recent family holiday meal, we made a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. However, after over 30 minutes of waiting the only thing we had on the table was water. I realize that it was a busy evening after the holiday--I can handle that. What I can't handle was the indifferent, apathetic waiter who finally showed up to take our order and made us feel as if we were an inconvenience as opposed to patrons. I've been coming to Huber's periodically for years and everyone can have an off night. Will I give the restaurant a second chance? Absolutely. But there are a lot of other great restaurants in the area that will also receive my consideration.

I knew that it was the oldest restaurant in Portland and I heard about the turkey dinner being served all year. What I found was a warm setting, excellent staff and the best darn turkey dinner I have had in too long. It was a special occasion in a special place.
And...so helpful when we tried to get a cab on a snowy night.

I had made reservations for a party of 4 assuming we would be seated in the dining area. We were instead seated in the middle of the bar where the noise was absolutely deafening and the service from the hostess and waiter were subpar. The person making the Spanish Coffees was the only bright spot of the experience. He was exceptional. Unfortunately we were not offered second rounds by our waiter, etc. We were hoping to give out of town guests the best of Portland as we had previously experienced at Huber’s. Unfortunately it fell drastically short.
