The food was not good for the prices. I have had better bread from outback steakhouse. The dishes just seemed off and flavorless... only ordered three appetizers and left because we were not about to spend a lot more money on more average food. 15 dollar burgers and fries sounded way better to us than the 25 a piece appetizers we were eating there. Maybe we just aren’t meant to eat that type of food. The lava rock cooking was a cool fun thing but the sauces served with it could have been way better. It might just be me, but I don’t really care to put balsamic vinagarette or macaroni salad sauce on my steak and fish... Everything was presented nicely though which was nice.
Our salads and appetizers were the stars of the dinner, with exceptional flavors and beautiful plate presentations. The steaks and venison were perfectly prepared to order (unfortunately a little cooler than they should have been because of a delay in getting steak knives and our 4th entrée.) We enjoyed all the side dishes as well. Desserts were calories worth eating. This truly is an exceptional steakhouse, beautiful setting and fabulous food. The service was not in keeping with the price, the high caliber of the food nor the expectations we would associate with any Four Seasons restaurant. The champagne we ordered came not chilled, so we had to wait for it to chill down at our table before we could enjoy it with our appetizers and salads. We had to top off our own champagne flutes and wine glasses. The waiter came by several times to update us on status of food, wine, etc. but didn't pick up dirty plates or top off the glasses. A bus person came by, took a couple plates, told us she'd be back to "clear away those plates" but she never came back. Three steak entrees arrived together and our 4th entrée trailed. When the 3 entrees arrived the table was still full of dirty plates from starters. We helped move dirty plates out of the way. The 3 steaks were delivered without steak knives. After the 4th entrée finally arrived, still no steak knives until our waiter came by to check on all, hence more waiting for the knives while our steaks cooled. Wine service appropriately provided me a taste of the wine, then poured the other two glasses, but failed to come back and fill my glass, so I was left with just the remainder of the taste until pouring my own glass. No water refills were offered. My bottle of water was empty from the arrival of my entrée. After dinner, long wait for dessert to be offered, long wait after dessert for a check back, and a very long wait for the check.
The service didn't match the caliber of the restaurant.
Birthday dinner. Everything was great. Best dinner on the big island during our trip.
Great place for a special occasion!
After being misdirected by the front staff we finally mad it to this restaurant. We were promptly seated and enjoyed a great meal with incredible service in a very nice setting. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The restaurant is first class, from the staff to the menu and presentation!
Lovely setting and ambiance. Both vegetarian and carnivore choices although the vegetarian choices are a bit lacking in options. Service was impeccable. Would highly suggest for a fine dining experience on The Big Island.
Service was impeccable! Food was wonderful just more expensive then the true value. Overall a good place to splurge on if doing multiple nice dinners and need another option.
What a pleasant surprise! I guess my expectations for a resort steakhouse were pretty average, but wow, did they impress! First, gorgeous location facing the 18th green at Hualalai, with plenty of lanai space and a nice bar with big screen TV’s. The staff was attentive without being pushy, lots of aloha spirit. The food was really top notch, we had salads, both wedge and Caesar that were great. Filets and lobsters for entree’s...the filets were so tender, and cooked perfect. Comparable to any high-end steakhouse...seriously. My wife’s lobster was also excellent. We had the gratin potatoes...sooooo good and the fried rice. Both excellent. If you are looking for great steak on the Big Island, this is a winner!
Fine dining at its best!
Beautiful restaurant. Awesome service. If only they had air conditioning !
We loved the grilled seafood platter for two! The restaurant is beautiful and really romantic. Service was friendly but extremely slow. We will definitely be back next time we stay at the Four Seasons Hualalai.
Fantastic setting, hotel and ambiance. The sunset behind the trees made it a great experience. We were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary and they brought us a special desert for that occasion without telling us. I recommend without any hesitation!
It was our anniversary and the food was incredible, and service impeccable!
I had the NY Strip & decided to try their offer of a sauce. First, it was cooked perfectly. The steak was delicious by itself but the sauce made it memorable. My wife also had steak cooked just the way she likes
it. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. One of the managers came-up after dinner to confirm everything was as anticipated. I appreciate that gesture by management. The prices were not cheap but the steaks were priced at an equal level as home. Worth returning there.
Great service! Great ambiance! Good was excellent. Expensive but you are in Hawaii. Highly recommend!
This is a second fine restaurant at the Four Seasons that I had not previously tried. The setting is at the 18th hole but still with an ocean sunset view. The vegetarian and vegan options were great. The staff was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about ingredients in the dishes to help out vegan diners. The service was quick and the quality of food and service were excellent. I recommend this option for the Kohala coast diners who seek a high quality upscale but still subdued dining environment. For a more romantic option, you can choose Ulu on the beach. Both restaurants were a hit with our family!
Fabulous experience - from service, food, atmosphere. Wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary.
Quickly becoming our go to place for an amazing meal. Grilled seafood platter is out of this world.
Amazing experience. Great food and service. Ironically the groups favorite was the rolls they served. Best ever. Food was amazing. No complaints at all. Will be back.
My wife had Mahi-Mahi and I had the bone-in Ribeye. Both were done extremely well by the chef. We also had three sides; Brussel sprouts, mushrooms in red wine sauce, and gratin potatoes with Gruyere. All were excellent! We also enjoyed s bottle of Duckhorn Merlot which I always enjoy very much. With coffee for desert I had Macadamia Nut German Chocolate Cake that was so over the top I couldn’t finish it.
Great first time visit. Jason was an excellent server.
It was my 21st wedding anniversary and this meal was the best we've had on the Big Island hands down! (We've been to this island 6 times now). I was a little disappointed our waitress did not acknowledge our anniversary however even though it was mentioned when I made the reservation. No worries though as we had an outstanding dinner.
My husband and I shared the 12 oz. rib eye steak and 3 sides. It was more than enough! The pretzel type bread rolls are served warm with butter and 3 different types of salt. OMG these are so delicious!! At the beginning of the meal, we had already planned on ordering dessert, but we were overly content and could not eat another morsel. I would definitely return to this restaurant and highly recommend it to family and friends.
For a four star resort the food, particularly the steak is sub par. The service on the other hand is wonderful.
Overpriced, probably best for steaks...we had chicken and salmon entrees. 'Ulu is great. 5 star in every aspect.
Friendly staff with great steaks!
Great food and service
Our Anniversary Dinner.
Great restaurant and a Wonderful View in the outside dining area.
Our Wait Person Oli was great.
Good restaurant although I would rate it behind Ulu and possibly Beach Tree in terms of restaurants solely on the Four Seasons property. The view isn’t as great as with the other two, as the other two are right on the beach. And the food is good but not exceptional. For example, I’ve had better steaks and sides elsewhere.
Amazingly well worth it.
Would love to return for another visit
Would get five stars if I could give seven stars to the service. Food is exceptional. Wine list is very good for Hawaii. Only drawbacks, for me, is no oysters Rockefeller and no,creamed spinach. I feel a great steakhouse like this one deserves both. But go; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Ask for Jackson’s table; he’s a superb waiter.
We had an enjoyable and delicious dinner with our whole family. It was one of the best ones so far!!!!!
Great food, excellent service, and an even better view. Whether drinks and small plates at the bar or fine dining on the balcony overlooking the resort at sunset, Hualalai delivers! Creative menu with standard favorites - their filet mignon is glorious. Dessert should not be missed!!
This place was fantastic. The view is amazing. The staff was great and the food was some of the best we’ve had in Hawaii so far.
Great setting, excellent service. A little pricey considering quality of menu.
First of all, I'm not one to complain about my food. My wife and I never send anything back to the kitchen due to being presented a poorly executed meal. This being said, I must have cut the "chef" off on my way into the restaurant or something because this was the most under-prepared meal I've EVER had. We ordered what was simply called a seafood plate for two at $120.00. Not being that hungry and realizing that we were at a Four Seasons Restaurant, we figured the portions would not be too large, so we went with it. The plate consisted of two cold water crab legs (not King crab), 1 - 4oz cold water lobster, 3 shrimp and a whole snapper (and I mean whole). The chef prepared these delicacies like a caveman cooking a bison. EVERY piece of shellfish was grilled open faced, making the meat unattainable from the shells. The lobster and crab legs were so broiled in the shells that the tiny pieces we were able to extract were only edible with our hands (great for fine dining). After speaking with the new waiter (who was great) and the hostess (also apologetic) about the whole snapper (they actually told us we were supposed to remove the spine of the fish with our hands and flake off the meat ourselves), we asked for them to take the fish that remained and have the "Chef" cut the snapper and remove what was left of our shellfish from the shells for us. By the time the food came back it was all cold and we just wanted to leave. The waiter offers us desert on him, but we politely said no thank you as the meal was ruined already. By the way, not credit on the bill, no comped drinks or anything. Barely a goodbye once we paid our bill.
Food was good, but not the best. Just met expectations. Service was very nice though. Gorgeous venue.
Birthday celebration for my hiusbands 50th!!
FANTASTIC! Celebrates our daughters 26th birthday and couldn’t have chosen a better place! Food was phenomenal, service was exceptional and ambiance was beautiful. Overall fabulous and can’t wait to go back!
The food was amazing. Service was top notch. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. I hope to eat there again soon.
