HS Lordships Ratings and Reviews
Very sad - has been a Bay Area staple for years and years. Had my rehearsal dinner there 29 years ago. Saturday night - 5 tables occupied in the whole restaurant, no one at the bar. Ordered the Prime Rib medium - came blood rare. Service was slow, unfriendly server, asked for chocolate cake for dessert, came with cheese cake. My cocktail was excellent! Drab, dreary, needs to be updated.
The food was very good. However poor presentation. The staff was not friendly and somewhat ride with mo manners. We sat late, restaurant said they were running 15 to 20min. behind. Bit it was actually more. Felt rushed! They were already clearing all the buffet stations near 7pm. Couldnt even enjoy dessert because cleared out. Some people were.complaining because they were promised buffet open until 8pm. Regardless, it was closing down well before that. Female hostess and waitress were friendly. Male staff were rude.
The primary thing about this place is the view - gorgeous at sunset. The etched glass décor is nice too. The atmosphere is great, although there are a lot of parties - they have several banquet rooms and also have lots of large tables. This is a place where people go to celebrate. The have a good selection of dinner options and the fish was good; includes fresh vegetables too. They are accommodating about splitting dishes, which is nice. Their coffee is disappointing - seems to be stuck in the watery era of when the restaurant was first built. The food is updated - hope the coffee follows at some point.
My reservation was for lunch; I didn't realize it was going to be a buffet. We weren't able to order from a menu. Nevertheless, the food was good, and there were many choices. The Saturday brunch is obviously very popular, as the restaurant was very crowded and noisy. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. We were seated at a table with a nice view of the water, which was nice.
Not crowded for a Wednesday night. Had the sunset 5-6pm special. The prime rib and the salmon were fantastic. Nice portions for the price. Our waiter was very attentive and took great care of us. The view of San Francisco can't be beat. Its a bit dated but who cares the food was awesome and the price for waterfront dining was real reasonable. We will be back often.
I reserved for Sunday Lunch. I got there, initially I was told I didn't make the reservation by a very nice man. A very rude woman intervened and told me that although I made the reservation the brunch was ending in 25 minutes, they were not bringing out any more food and if I decided to pay I would not get a discount or fresh food. There was no offer of any other options. I had to improvise and take my sister to another restaurant for her birthday. The service has certainly diminished over the years. What the rude hostess didn't realize, I was a frequent diner and had hosted three major events at the venue and suggested the venue for company functions. I will never darken their door step again.
Some things do not keep well on a buffet - pot stickers dry out, meat overdone, endhiladas dry. That said, the salads, breakfast items, most of the composed items were delicious. The deserts were amazing especially the cheesecake. Our server, Cassandra was amazing. Attentive quick with the refills on champagne and coffee. We did not have omlettes, but did enjoy the waterside table and the selection of dishes was outrageous. Thanks for making my husbands 80th birtday very special. Like Arnie says "we'll be back"
I have lived in this area for 40 years, but always eschewed Hs. Lordships as presumably crowded and overpriced, plus, as a non-land-animal eater, why would I head somewhere known for prime rib? I always opted for Skates instead.... However, Skates has seriously declined with its new management and after several practically ruined special occasion dinners in recent years, I have vowed "never again".... Thus, gave Hs. Lordships a try.
First nice surprise: a choice of tables on Saturday night; except for a huge reception of a wedding or something, the place was practically empty. The on-line reservation system was a breeze -- nice!
The view cannot be beaten.... And that was what we came for, so, gold star there!
The lighting in the restaurant was too bright (glare blocked the stunning view of city lights across the bay -- to see out, we had to lean right up to the windows to block the lighting from behind); could have used candles instead of bright compact flurosecent, and the AC was waay cold on an already chilly evening.
The menu was good for my needs, and my food -- Red Snapper was nicely prepared and very tasty. My date ordered trout.... tasted good, but later on had tummy rumbles, which led to suspicion of the farmed fish, but... never can say for sure.... My kids eat only vegetation, and there were a couple of options that would have been available, so good news there for vegetarians -- a meal is possible (not great, but possible)....
The service was serviceable...not fantastic, but nothing overtly inappropriate happened, other than having to repeat requests for tea, then cream. I myself would try it again, but my date will not return there.... different topic!
The ONLY reason why I'm writing this is because I hope whoever owns it or in the future decides to go..... number one do not go hungry !!!!! Not kidding...it took us 2 hours to get our food that might have been because of the ONLY ONE waiter for the 30 tables I believe it's seats probably over 1,000 people it is an enormous facility, yet completely empty. First of many red flags. The scent of the establishment reminded me of musty mildew maybe a wet dog. Upon being sat, half hour later we had to beg for bread and water eventually had to get up and walk to the bar (where there was nobody but a solo fisherman looking person in the corner) and Order our sad watered-down drinks for $10+ each then we waited another half an hour and once again I had to go to the front and talk to the hostess to see if maybe she could get a waiter to come over to our table everyone around us seems to be in the same boat if it wasn't for the Groupon I never would have gone although I've heard about it for many years the Groupon took a little sting out of the whole experience however won't be returning until I hear there's new ownership and the whole place needs to be rescued from a restaurant rescue organization everything we asked for was done wrong dressing on the side of the Crab Louie no crab shells in salad...I had 4 lard jagged pieces...no onions in the scalloped potatoes ribeye steak asked medium well came out dripping in blood and cold we finally got order correct and tasted good. Now the bathroom had black mold in it and there was five stalls but four of them were not working ? Oh the old musty Dusty dirty Fake Plastic flowers in the bathroom were a nice touch though.... again if somebody purchases that place and rescues it ...the sights and location is amazing for the Bay Area. Sorry for the review but somebody needs to do an intervention in this poor place.
I had a very challenging restrictive diet due to being on an allergy detox plan, and the kitchen was able to work around my restrictions, substituting extra vegetables for the grains. I was off of vinegars, fermented foods, high FODMAPS, sugar, grains, dairy. Perfect petralel sole dish with 2 different greens!
Kids were out on their own Sunday adventure so Hubby and I were looking for a brunch spot to spend some quality time while enjoying a good meal. We came across HS Lordship and neither of us had been but saw they had a Sunday buffet brunch with 2 complimentary mimosas per person so I booked a reservation on Open Table while driving over. They are located right on the water with exceptional bay views! They asked if we were there for a special occasion and we just laughed that we were kids free for the day. They gave us the best seat in house, literally! Our server was great, there was a variety of breakfast and lunch foods with a waffle station, omelet bar and a turkey, ham and beef carving station. I love the idea of buffets but can never eat as much as I want to, haha. The food was good, nothing I had to get seconds of but did make more than 1 trip to the dessert table which I enjoyed with a good cup of coffee or two.
Kinda pricey for brunch, about $40/person but defintely worth it on the day we went. The Fleet Week air show was going on, so for a kid-less brunch with great views and an air show, we enjoyed every bite and every minute we were there . Not something we would do regularly but will defintely come back for a date night or special occasion. I'm thrilled we found this place and would love to try their dinner soon!
