HS Lordships Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is located at the waterfront of Berkeley. It is an excellent place to watch the beautiful sunset with Golden Gate Bridge in the background. There are usually plenty of parking spaces and open tables. So reservation is not absolutely necessary. The service is excellent. The seafood dishes we ordered were all very good. The prices are reasonable. I highly recommend it for semi-casual dinning.
The place it's on a beautiful spot.. However, there is a lot of upgrades that needs to be made.. The carpet it's old red, the tables are old, the chairs are super old.. If they can just spend a little money making it look more appealing it would be nice. The food was only ok, the price was expensive. They had me waiting for 30 mnts even though my reservation was at 815 and there was no to many people there. The staff seem not happy and they were wearing very casual clothing. This place has a lot of potential it's sad to see that they are not making an effort to make the place better.
The restaurant was nice and the ambience was pretty good. The choices for Valentine's Day price fix was excellent. However, desert wise I wished they'd offer a cheesecake, but that was minor. The restaurant was a little cold, but I attribute that to maybe being on the water at night. It seemed like every time someone came through the front door a cold gust of wind followed them. Lol. Our server was outstanding in the person resetting the tables was very professional. Seem like he had many years in the restaurant industry. Yes I would recommend people coming here for Valentine's Day or for Sunday brunch.
Excellent restaurant for special occasions like Valentines day. A bit pricey and smaller portions but excellent food and well prepared. Complimentary Champagne on Valentines day which was a nice touch. Service was great as it has been every time I have been there and I have been going here for years for special events.
The best part is the location and the views of the bay and San Francisco skyline. Make sure to be seated in the room that faces the Golden Gate and make reservations for half hour before sunset and you can watch the sun set over the bay and the lights of San Francisco come on, absolutely gorgeous. Can't miss place for a date or to take people from out of town for an iconic sunset view of the bay and SF.
Good food, but the service was a little spotty this time. I had to ask for the bread, which normally comes with the meal. Without the Groupon, the food is a little pricey for what you get (e.g., $15 for one crabcake). However, the parking and view are still good, and we'll come back again. Finally, it'd have a better ambiance if there were more diners and more noise. It's a big place and seems empty, with only one corner for the customers.
My last visit was not a pleasant experience. Perhaps this was an anomaly but the Prime Rib I ordered was undercooked, returned it to the kitchen twice and the chef could not get it to well done. This set the tone for the evening. The side dishes of Scalloped Potatoes were dry and lacked seasoning and flavor. The Salmon was dry and lacked flavor. Breading on the Sole was under-cooked and soggy. Lighting was out in places, requested to be reseated. Hopefully this was not a new normal for one of my favoriate bay area restaurants and truly was an anomaly.
We didn't get seated for our 6:30 reservation till 7:00 (though in fairness to them, part of that was so we could get a window table). Meanwhile, the bar was understaffed (because it had to deal with a big party in a special events room) so drinks were slow while we waited. The waiting area and bathrooms were dingy. Once we were seated, the food was reasonable (very good shrimp cocktail), if a little pricey, and the view of the San Francisco Bay (from the Port of Oakland to San Francisco) was gorgeous. Fairly good, but next time, we'd go to Skates on the Bay at the Berkeley Marina (equal views, more together service, better waiting ambiance) and reserve earlier in the day (they didn't have space at our time so we went to HS Lordships).
I liked this place, the views of the bay are outstanding. Menu is good, fresh with organic/sustainable options. My only suggestion is to tone down the lights at night, they are too bright, by having softer lighting, it would help appreciate the gorgeous night views of the San Francisco Bay.
Not as good as I was hoping. My wife and I went for our birthdays and, unfortunately, we didn't have a great view because the sun had already set. The food was good but not what I expect for the price. The restaurant knew it was our birthdays and when I ordered one dessert they brought two. Each had a lit candle. When the bill arrives I was charged for the dessert I ordered and the only was comped? Not sure why they didn't give them both to us free? Probably won't go back since its a 45 min drive from my house without traffic and there are literally 100's of other restaurants closer.
We went for Saturday Brunch and were seated promptly. Our reservation was for 11am which is also when they opened so there was only maybe a 3-5 minute wait after we checked in with the hostess. The restaurant has a great waterfront location with a beautiful view from all the windows. Parking is horrible unless you have placard for disabled parking. It's a free public lot for use by anyone at the marina and is in desperate need of re-paving. Come prepared to hike from your car to the restaurant and beware of potholes and loose gravel. Inside the restaurant is the decor is Very Dated but functional. All that being said let's talk food and service. The Service was AMAZING!!!! Our waiter and his helper (Leo and Mario) were extremely friendly and attentive. We had water and beverages with in minutes of being seated. They always made sure we had everything we needed. The food was Good. We did the brunch buffet and there were a lot of options. The crowd pleaser was the cooked-to-order omelette and pasta station. The only problem I saw was that they only had one chef to man that station. She was having to do the Omelettes, Pasta, Carving Station, and Fresh Waffles all by herself. Kudos to her but there really should have been 2-3 people working that station. The rest of the food was standard brunch fare plus crab legs. It was really good but nothing really wowed. Apparently the Sunday Brunch has a lot more and is better than the Saturday one. The price was about what I expected at around $30 per person. I'd definitely go back again
We loved the location of the restaurant. It has been awhile since I was last here. The service was excellent. The cocktail I ordered was really bad. I requested a cosmopolitan. However, our waiter a very nice man replaced with another type of drink. The food was good, I had the grilled salmon my husband the fish and chips.
The resaurant really needs a renovations. Probably food prices would go up. But I would pay to have a nice atmosphere.
Hs Lordships was extremely busy at the time we went. It appeared that there were numerous "groups" dining. Our reservation was for 1:00. Had to wait 40 minutes even with a reservation. Food was good, but being near the end of brunch I didn't feel relaxed or that we had the cream of the crop in pickings.
Second time we went for brunch. Best brunch around. Everything was great with the exception of our server. He felt his time was better spent talking to his co-workers. We asked for water which was 5 feet away and he took off for over 5 minutes to chat. Asked for additional champagne and he stood holding it a good 5 minutes again while charting. Very slow removing used plates. It was NOT busy in our section so this was upsetting.
We had a pleasant business meeting with a very nice brunch. The food was well prepared and the quality was very good and the three of us enjoyed ourselves at this meal. We had made a reservation and a table was available in a timely manner. We would recommend this restaurant to some of her friends for their enjoyment and the opportunity to have a pleasant atmosphere and good food for a meeting.
H's Lordship is an old time favorite of mine. I have been coming here for years. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. It is definitely an elegant go to when you are not sure where to go. I've never been disappointed. And their party facilities and catering is good too. Nice place to have a party.
I loved the atmosphere- somewhat dated, but in a good way. Cozy, with a fireplace, plenty of seating but in small set off rooms- it was just a nice atmosphere. Spectacular views of San Francisco Bay, three bridges, San Francisco, wildlife, and plenty of water. It was gorgeous. The food selection was overwhelming! We were celebrating a birthday with a Sunday brunch, and the choices went on forever- all of it good. Breakfast items, every type of meat, huge dessert selection, salad, many different seafoods to choose from- it was tremendous. There was complementary champagne and soft drinks as well. The greeter was very friendly. She mentioned she had been with them for 17 years, and recognized the man in line in front of us because she had seen him plenty as a child in the restaurant. The wait staff was a bit lackluster, but not upsetting. I failed to ask the cost of the buffet, assuming it would be pricey, but was shocked at the price of just our three buffets. No one could eat enough food to charge that amount. So IF you are at all concerned about the price, ask beforehand. I would still go back, but it might be a once a year treat.
This was a disappointment to me.Looking from the pictures online I thought this would be more upscale. The furnitures and the carpet seems like it has not been updated ever. The place smell like a nursing home and look like a dilapidated nursing home. The owner is definitely not putting back into this establishment.Very sad.The food was served lukewarm. The only thing it had going was the view.THIS WOULD NEVER SURVIVE IN lOS ANGELES.What a Shame.
Location has such potential but it all stops there. The lobster was terrible — hard, chewy and tasteless. The highlight was the warm bread. While the wait staff was nice the service is what you’d expect at a diner not a restaurant portraying itself as a nice restaurant.
The view was excellent, the service was timely and efficient and the food was very good. We chose HS Lordships for the New Year's Eve Special and were not disappointed. Were greeted with a glass of champagne and the night continued to impress us. Am looking forward to our next experience here.
Very disappointed in the food. I can not believe how much the restaurant has gone down. Hislordship was one of my favorite restaurant because of quality of the food, high Quality ingredients this is the restaurant I know of.
Also while eating my food the waiter passed by and dropped the serving tray which consist of dirty dishes ,food and at that point glass was broken and all over my foot.
Went back to His Lordship's after a decade-long absence. Was hoping to celebrate my grandfather's death with my family. Service was terrible; didn't see the waiter until we'd been waiting twenty minutes, and then he kept on disappearing. Restaurant was out of some of their desserts, out of mashed potatoes, out of various bottles of champagne listed on the menu etc. Server was rude as well as incompetent. View was pretty at least, but we clearly were not respected as diners. Restaurant was way more expensive than food deserved.
Miserable dining experience.
Hi. I went over there to celebrate wedding anniversary. My wife loved my selection on the venue And that made me more Happy. She really loved the place, me too. The service was excellent, food was great at a reasonable price. Indeed the service was also excellent. We were greeted very warmly. Overall, we Did Had a great Time And trully Nice place where We Had our anniversary dinner. Thank you guys for the Nice And great service. God bless you all.
Went for the Christmas Eve brunch buffet. Owners/managers were non festive and had their focus on the money by moving guest around like cattle. Found a long hair in our food. Not enough servers. The place was so stuffy and the building itself has a lack of ventilation and dirty carpet.
Our group came here for Christmas day buffet brunch. We were seated in one of the large dining room without view of the bay. There was a good variety of food, carving station, omelet station, desserts, but the salad bar was limited. Service not rated high for 2 main reasons: The restaurant was not all ready to serve food when it opened at 10 am (still setting up and getting hot foods out for buffet line) and the staff at the carving station was not properly trained to cut beef roast AGAINST the grain. This restaurant facility is old and the chairs showed their age: many of the chairs were badly stained. They need to be replaced or redone. if you have a smaller party, you could be seated in the dining rooms with bay view, which is much nicer.
