The food here is very good and we have been eating here for several years; however, the place is dirty and the wait staff (guys) look filthy. Long hair, sweaty, and they are actually all around your food. The mens bathroom was horrendous - i have seen roadside gas stations cleaner than this place. Not sure what happened; but this place needs a serious clean-up.
The food was ok, nothing special. What really got me was the service. Not only did we not get a waiter assigned for 20 minutes, we saw a server pick his nose multiple times when bringing people’s food out and stuff his shirt inside his pants...! So unappetizing!
Excellent! Food is fantastic. Our server, Noah, was friendly, informative & attentive. Fantastic dining experience. Additionally, making our reservation on the website was surprisingly easy convenient.
Food always good but service should have been much better. Had to constantly look for our server to order drink, appetizers and main dishes. Atmosphere was good. Overall had good evening.
Excellent Asian food and the service was good. Hope this location stays around.
Great food! Slow service and there were a handful of people in the restaurant.
Great value as always. Our waitress was amazing. We'll be back.
HW has been our Chinese go to for a while. The last few visits we have been less then pleased. We always start with wonton soup. Yesterday’s soup came out barely warm. They brought another bowl and it was the same temperature. The egg rolls are just ok. The Happy Family had a nice amount of sauce this time but was lacking flavor. The best part of our dinner was the fried wontons and duck sauce.
Best Chinese food ever. Everyone at table loved what they ordered. We’ll be back!
Food was just ok. I had Pad Thai - not traditional in my opinion. It was just noodles, carrots, tofu, over cooked egg, and chicken. I asked for it with no onions.....but it is traditionally served topped with peanuts, cilantro, and a wedge of lime. It had none of those toppings and was very bland in flavor. Husband had chicken and shrimp lo mein - again, nothing special. Kids had sweet n sour chicken and lo mein - neither liked their food. The service was great, that was really the only highlight of the evening. However, at $75 for 2 noodles dishes and 2 kids meals - it’s not worth returning. It’s overpriced subpar Chinese food.
Cocktails and food were great!
We sat at the bar and got a table. Food was good, service was great!!! We will return.
I made a reservation for a party of 8 we were celebrating Chinese New Year as my coworkers are from Asian decent. It was not a busy Friday but the service was so slow and the food was not up to par with my coworkers as the food was very mild and there was no hot sauce choice. We received our food about an hour later and mine was wrong so once my food arrived I had to ask for a to go box as most had finished and we needed to get back to the office. Sorry I won’t be recommending your place
Ended up wall out after waiting one hour after ordering food. They lost our order. Waiter forgot our tea.
My husband & I love the food. He decided he would like to celebrate his birthday there this week. The service was very good & the food was excellent.
Great place to enjoy your evening meal. Love the ambience.
All went well!
Good was ok. Decor was wonderful! PeiWei has way more vibe to it.
Dumplings and egg roll appetizers were pretty mediocre. Both very heavy instead of light.
Got the garlic stir fry with scallops and shrimp. Overly sauced and seafood was over cooked.
One of the servers filled my sprite with water...
Second time coming here and the first wasn’t much better. Had the general tsao’s chicken and sweet and sour chicken which were pretty forgettable.
Don’t waste your time.
The food just wasn’t as good as it normally is. We had soup to start then Happy Family. We brought most of the happy family home and no one wanted it, that is not the norm. Normally we don’t have any to bring home.
It was a quiet night— few tables, but the food temperature was lukewarm and we were never offered dessert or drink refills. I wish our server was more attentive to that even though we had a large party. The menu was extensive. Liked the variety but the food was heavy on sauce.
The goods, cashew chicken dinner was well prepared and presented. The takeout order of shrimp basil spring rolls were a party hit. The bads, our cups of hot & sour soup were cold but waiter replaced with hot soup, waited 45 minutes for dinner entrées but it was early new years eve and assume takeout orders slammed the kitchen, General Tso's chicken was overcooked and hard.
NYE family celebration before we all went out for the evening got stuck in a corner but had enough room for our party of 8. Ordered multiple apps. Ribs and potstickers were good, egg rolls and crab Rangoon’s were meh.
Ordered pork fried rice, happy family, pepper steak, chicken pad Thai, and sesame chicken. All were relatively small and light in the protein. Had to ask for sesame chicken to be brought out and the Broccoli was cold when it finally arrived.
We’ve been here before and it seems to be hit or miss. Generally staff is attentive but doesn’t address issues. Unfortunately there aren’t many options for decent Chinese food in the area so we’ll probably be back.
We have been multiple times. Each time the food is good and service is good. This place is missing something and I do not know what it is. Each time we go, we eat and leave. We do not have multiple drinks or stick around. It is never crowded and typically reservations available. I think it looks dark and uninspired from the outside. Food is good.
All went as planned.
While the food and table service were wonderful I was disappointed at our arrival experience. We arrived for our 6:30 pm dinner reservation but were not even acknowledged for 15 minutes. The hostess was on the phone for 10 minutes taking a food order and another young man was too busy distributing to go orders to Uber Eats drivers and answering the phone that he ignored us. After waiting 15 minutes I interrupted him to let him know we had reservations. I was disappointed that telephone calls and to go orders took precedence over customers arriving on time for a reservation.
Apparently, Open Table overbooked resulting in all reservations being cancelled. Great job, Open Table!
We have been here several times but this time was by far the worst. Our waiter couldn’t remember anything we ordered or asked for so we spent the whole meal trying to remind him for things we needed. Some of the food came out cold or missing parts. The fried rice was literally just white rice with soy sauce put in it. I’m really sad because I used to love this restaurant but this time was terrible and the time before this was not too much better. Get some decent wait staff!
We go often so this isn’t my normal review. We were sat in a booth that the ceiling was leaking. When my daughter told the host he said “I know”. So why would you set people there when the place was practically empty? Was very disappointed.
Howards is always a great place
I had the Peking duck and it was very good not as in China good but I would have it again. The sesame honey seared chicken was fantastic. The noodle bowl was disappointing as it wasn't flavorful and the protein was very limited.
The food here is always good. I was extremely surprised they charged for additional rice.
Our first time at this restaurant and it was a terrible experience! Our drinks and appetizers were fine, but our dinner came out 40 minutes after we ordered and when asked to talk with the manager she came and was rude! Finally brought out the food and the fish was undercooked... raw on the inside and no I didn’t order sushi! Very disappointed! We will not go back nor recommend!
The food was cold. Probably because they brought our food in a brown paper to-go bag to our dining table. ??? Then realized it wasn’t a to-go order, brought it back to the kitchen, and threw it on plates. By the time it got back to us it was cold. There’s always something that goes wrong when we dine at this restaurant. We have finally given up . Ambiance: All of the chairs are horribly torn apart.
Food does not taste like it did their first year of business.
It was a family get-together, for the holiday weekend, and all individuals thoroughly enjoyed the food as well as the attentive service provided by our server Ty. Would definitely go back!
I love Chinese food and since moving to Texas was eager to find a go-to nicer Chinese restaurant more than just strip mall Chinese take out.
Living in Southlake Howard's seemed like the right choice.
Impressions: Restaurant is Dark! very dark and quiet I felt a need to whisper rather than enjoy conversation with my family.
Tables are very close together --- which also led to the whispering.
I felt closed in, forced to whisper, it was also awkward because a trio of managers were leaning against the wall behind the hostess stand, just kind of watching everyone eat. It just contributed to an uninviting uncomfortable atmosphere.
Food: My wonton soup was nice -- mild, very fresh ingredients, not salty. It was a little bland, but the freshness of the ingredients made it work.
I love spice, my wife hates it. I'm usually the one accused of cooking meals way too spicy.
However, my wife immediately called her chicken dish bland, and lacking flavor. I was again feeling like I read really good fresh veggies, really nice fresh shrimp, and beef, high quality meats which are harder to find in Chinese restaurants these days. I was enjoying those and when my wife mentioned the lack of flavor i realized she was right. It was bland.
I hadn't realized but I had dumped a ton of soy sauce in my dish and it still didn't taste quite right.
Perhaps their clientele likes blander food, but for us, it didn't hit the mark.
It's sad because I think all they need to do to be a great restaurant is to add more spices/seasoning flavor, increase lighting, space out tables, and ask the managers to stop standing around supervising.
Everyone was very nice, and friendly, and you can tell they care, but they need a few tweaks to make it sing
My longest food review ever, and way too much detail I guess, I did watch an marathon of Gordon Ramsey the other day... maybe that's to blame. But that's my two cents. Maybe I'll give them another try but i won't be running back,
We had Peking duck and the buns were cold. It seems they got them out of the fridge and serve them. The duck was average. We also had Chilean Sea Bass (steamed) and it was good.
Great meal again at Howard Wangs. If you want quality Chinese food at a reasonable price, this is your place.
Food was great as usual. We love their SeaBass. We have it everytime.
My friends and I had a great time at Howard Wangs. Good food, full bar, and attentive staff. We will be back.
