About How To Cook A Wolf

This neighborhood restaurant atop Queen Anne is cozy and intimate. As a nod to the restaurant’s literary namesake, Chef David Glass repeatedly impresses by doing so much from this tiny kitchen. The continually changing, Italian-inspired menu focuses on smaller plates and fresh, daily-made pastas, typically enjoyed family style in the warm, wood-clad dining room. Stop by the Queen Anne Farmer's Market before dinner, and you might see Chef Glass gathering ingredients for that night's menu. Have dinner at the bar and sip Prosecco while watching the kitchen create.

This was our first date night out since moving to Seattle in August. So worth the wait! Enjoyed everything, the wine, the service, the food and the cozy atmosphere.

Do not visit How to Cook a Wolf if you plan to entertain friends, date, business associates. Since the 20% gratuity is mandatory and built into the final bill, the servers push hard to move out diners as fast as possible in order to turn over the tables quickly. I booked the the table for myself and business associate (just the 2 of us) for 6:45 pm on a weeknight. After ordering an expensive bottle of wine (over $120) and some apps within the first 10 minutes of sitting down, our server began hounding us for the remainder of our order, to the point that I finally asked her, "are you in a hurry to get this table back?" to which she responded, "yes, we do have other reservations for the table"--this statement, after only 30 minutes! At that, we finished our wine and apps, and took the check. I understand when patrons linger at a table way beyond what is reasonable (an hour and a half? two at the most?), but when you initially sit down looking forward to a casual evening with friends or family, only to have the server make it clear "you need to move it along" after 30 minutes? Not reasonable at all.

Came to HCW to celebrate my fiance's birthday, and SOOOO good. We ordered 2 recommended dishes, and 2 that we wanted to try, and we wanted to order another of each. Seems like you can't go wrong with any dishes! Service was great, food was great, and probably one of the more memorable dishes to date. Thanks HCW!

We had a lovely birthday dinner on Monday evening . Our server was great and paced the meal perfectly. Even though we only ordered vegetarian items we had five courses and no trouble at all finding delicious things to eat. The cocktails were also really fun and tasty.

Great food and excellent service. Had the scallops, duck and tagliatelle and everything was superb. My wife and I agree that this was the best duck we have ever eaten! A little on the pricey side since the plates are small but worth the cost.

Great food and innovative dishes. Great vibe. Not so pricey. Smaller portions even for large plates, so order likewise. Eat the duck. Very limited desert menu though :(

Noise level is on the higher side and quiet conversation is difficult to do, so I won't go in for "ROMANTIC" date here, unless there are less customers at the same time. Otherwise, the atmosphere is upbeat with warm cozy room, and food & drinks are all wonderful!

Outstanding food, outstanding service. Pricey but worth it. One complaint - we did not get a table even though I made reservation a day before, and confirmed later over a phone. Sitting by the bar was ok for that occasion. We even got more attention form a bartender than we would get from a waiter. A glass of bubbly on a house was a nice gesture. However if sitting at the table was preferable, it could turn into a major disappointment. On the other hand, the place is way too small and packed for anything "romantic". But then again, if you are a food aficionado, you will not be disappointed.

This spendy and trendy restaurant is a great choice if you want really good interesting food. I chose it to take friends from out of town to dinner. In searching for a restaurant I reviewed King 5's 'Where the Chefs Eat'. Chef Ethan Stowell is one of those chefs but another chef recommends his place. It is located in upper Queen Anne and is pretty small but I liked it for that reason. Cool interior, intimate feel, and friendly great service.

Celebrated our Anniversary with another couple doing the same. We each brought a bottle and ate everything! Great meal. It had been too long since we had been there- will need to return sooner than later. :)

We had a wonderful meal at How to Cook a Wolf for my husband's birthday. This restaurant had been on our list for a few years so we had high expectations. It was everything we wanted it to be. Our server was fantastic and friendly! We shared a bunch of small plates and two orders of pasta for three people. The Brussels sprouts with some kind of spicy anchovy sauce were so good that we took our bread to the leftover sauce. The bread came with roasted garlic in balsamic and olive oil. We ordered a few other small plates and a couple of pasta dishes. Our server suggested a nice bottle of wine from Sicily because we asked to try something we weren't familiar with. It was delicious. We left room for the panna cotta and we were glad that we did. We'll be back!

Great atmosphere and service. The food was marginal and or bad. Got the spaghetti, the seasoning was very very overpowering. Not good. Service made it ok though. And it wasn't too expensive.

Really enjoyed HTCAW's overall experience. I had family in from out of town so wanted to take them somewhere unique and delicious in Seattle. The server we had was very friendly and knowledgeable about menu. We ordered several dishes family style, including: Burrata, Bruchetta, Salmon, and the pepper/Parmesan pasta. We ended with the Sorbetto and peanut butter chocolate desserts. SO GOOD. Wonderful experience, highly recommend to anyone.

Fantastic food, service and ambiance! I liked how it was named after one of the owners favorite books growing up. My favorite dishes were:

• Sea Wolf Sourdough with fennel-honey butter, roasted garlic in olive oil + balsamic. Try eating them together. Sooooo delicious!
• Hamachi Crudo - the melon granita was a game changer and made it different than other crudos I've had. Pickled Serrano and cucumbers always give it a perfect balance in flavors and texture.
• Strozzapreti with butter, black pepper and pecorino Romano. Sometimes simple is better and in this case, it certainly was. We enjoyed this pasta more than the Spaghetti, but I liked the texture of the spaghetti more.

Overall, I loved this restaurant and would definitely come back when in Seattle again!

This restaurant is not for everybody. Some of the food was great, some was a little odd to us. The prices are steep be careful, our bill for two people quickly got to $190 with tip, that was with bread , an app, and few glasses of wine , no dessert. Not a place I would go back to again , but I'm not regretting going. The game hen dinner was our favorite. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

All the food and drinks were amazing except for the hen which was horribly over seasoned with salt. So bad my wife couldn't finish it. Glad we didn't have to pay that part of our dinner. Waiter was one of the best I've ever had. Excellent customer service.
