   My daughter invited 2 close friends to celebrate her 16th birthday and they had a fantastic dinner. We have been going to House. Wine. Bistro for 10 years and more often than not, the food and service is excellent. Thankfully, this evening matched that standard. One small yet very kind touch was the whole staff signed a Birthday Card that was at her preferred high table where they sat. Countless details are the difference between mediocre and magnificent. This is why HWB is a magnificent place!

   The quality of service was not the usual. Our server was non-attentive. It took 15 minutes after we ordered drinks for her to come to our table (without drinks) to ask if we wanted drinks! We had to ask our server if we could order appetizers before she disappeared again. Unfortunately, one of the entrees a member of our party wanted to order was not available, per usual they were out of the pork chop early on a Saturday evening (why is it even on the menu). The pasta didn’t taste quite right. We were there a few weeks ago and food and service were good. House Wine is a favorite of ours, but things seemed to have changed. Service and food are not quite what they use to be. We’re hoping it was just a bad night. But, it will be a while before we go back.

    Nice place, it was a little loud inside but once the large party left it was nice and quiet. Food was a little salty but had good flavor. For dessert we had crèmebrule and my only request was we need that crack from the perfect caramelization. Yeah total let down on that part but it had good flavor

    For four of us. My salmon cake starter was a little bland and just warm. My pasta entree was too chewy and lacked interest - just some sausage and little in the way of veggies. Creme Brûlée was too runny and the topping not crisp, but tasted good. For the others, the brie starter was too sweet, but the lamb chops were good, and the steak cooked to perfection. Ambience wise, the restaurant was busy, and is very hollow so noise travels far and conversation is difficult. Wine was good value.

    If you visit any of Delgados restaurants you will appreciate the effort that goes into developing every item on the menu. The lime garlic shrimp were perfectly cooked and refreshing to the palate. The Bee Sting starter with jalapeño honey reminds you of a pizza until you taste the bread, meat cheese and honey. So flavorful. The lamb chops with blue cheese cream sauce was amazing. The chops had the perfect sear and while blue cheese isn’t my favorite it was perfect with those chops. I had the duck and it was good but a little heavier than I needed after the starters. Hands down an awesome date night and our server Lauren was very knowledgeable and the perfect person to serve us.

    One of my favorite places to enjoy when in the Rio Grande Valley. The food is always amazing and the service is on point. One of the best charcuterie boards I've ever had at a restaurant and their brie baked in pastry is incredible. Highly recommend!
