House of Prime Rib Ratings and Reviews
It seems we always get seated in an area with traffic heading to and from the toilet but that’s not my issue with this visit. Our waiter was very impersonal with no introduction or welcome to the restaurant. Other than that the food was great as usual and not a disappointment.
During the holiday season you should expect it to be busy and noisy. I’ve always had an amazing experience and the food is perfect however this was a first that the whole thing was off - Extremely loud tables (every 5 minute a drunken speech- unfortunately the staff didn’t say anything, they have in the past) and the unforgivable..... the steak was bad!! The meat was tough and lacked flavor. I expect this is that one time it just didn’t work, so will come back one more time to check on the “one off” theory.
If you love prime rib, this is the best in town.
We always have a great meal, but I have to say this was one of the tastiest. Our prime rib just
was Fantastic. When you consider what you get for the price of $46-47 , it's totally a great deal.
Salad , house cut Prime Rib, potato, cream spinach, and Yorkshire pudding. The service was
also great. We can't wait to go back.
Everything was perfect, from the bread, sides and meat. I ordered the King Henry, which was delicious!! I would reccomend anyone to this place. You do not have to go here for a special occasion. The only problem that occurred was that we weren’t offered the complimentary slice of meat after finishing our prime ribs. But I loved everything else about this restaurant.
We look forward to our dinner the very second we make reservations here. We have made it a habit to bring other couples here and show them why we cannot stop raving about the food. Cream of spinach is our absolute favorite. Our server John, who is a pro and we have had before, even brought out the cream of corn for the table to taste just so everyone would know first hand why the Cream of Spinach is better ;-) We always leave here full and happy. Holidays it is always much louder but still, the atmosphere and the lights, its a must for anyone who visits or lives in SF.
We have been going to HOPR for many years as part of a Christmas tradition with friends. The food is consistently outstanding and the restaurant is always beautifully decorated for the holidays. The downside is the large number of loud holiday parties that can make it difficult to have a conversation.
This year there was a noticeable slip in the service as well. Our server forgot our drink order, barely checked in with us, and was always very rushed. This is the reason for the slightly lower rating.
My son and I landed at SFO at 8:00pm. My daughter’s flight wasn’t due in until 11:30pm. We decided the best way to spend our time was at the House of Prime Rib!! Luckily we scored last minute 10pm reservations. While waiting for our table, enjoyed cocktails. Got seated early. Our waiter was fabulous. The food amazing. We paced ourselves so we could order and enjoy the Henry VIII cut...but couldn’t finish. The sourdough bread is so delicious. The Yorkshire Pudding was perfect. We ordered a to-go meal for my daughter. The HofPR team did a wonderful job of packing up the meal...it included ALL the trimmings. Thank you for making my son’s first visit so tasty and memorable.
We had not eaten at House of Prime Rib in a couple of years and I would have to say the quality has gone down a bit. We were a party of 4 as we had bragged about HOPR to our friends. Prime Rib serving was not cut at our table, so that took away from the spectacle and presentation. Also our server was inexperienced and made a few errors and orders were mixed up. My wife and I had the English Cut, and the flavor and tenderness were very good. Our friends both had different cuts, but their plates were not as ordered. Popovers were a disappointment. Never had a popover that was more like a pancake. Overall a good experience, but also a disappointment from previous visits.
Love this restaurant. Can't wait to go back. Love the service, friendly staff, food & atmosphere. The only negative is that it takes months to get a reservation. I madecided my reservation for December in june. Because the last 3 years I missed going for my birthday, 12/13 , because I waited to late to make a reservation. Not this year. Can't wait to go back. I was so full when I left. I could hardly walk to the bus stop. I came from Fremont on bart.
I had a dinner reservation at 4:00 p.m. on a Sunday. I noticed, the later it got, the noise got louder. The restaurant seating was a bit snugged, not a lot of room.
The prime rib was wonderful, however, I thought the sides were a bit too salty or unsalted. The dining experience was great. It was quite expensive to me to have extra salty food or unsalted food. Would I come back any time soon, probably not.
