Classic San Francisco dining experience at a reasonable price.
Steven is a GREAT server!
I must say that the food was good. The prime rib was tasty and tender as well as the side dishes. Ambiance was pretty good for HOPR given the potential of noise level to rise up even higher on previous visits. My primary complaint is that the waittress and busboys seemed to be in a rush. The brought the food very quickly and removed the eaten plates quickly for those in our party that were finished. There were one individual that was still eating and while she was cutting another piece of her prime rib a busboy asked her if she wanted to take her food to go. Without waiting for an answer he promptly left and quick walked to get to go containers and promptly put her food into the container. She had almost half her prime rib on her plate still to finish.
HOPM never disappoints! Food quality and service are always 5 stars and above. I originally had a party of 3, but had to change it to a party of 6 at the last minute. The staff was able to accommodate this change for us at our rspv time- thank you so much!
I was impressed with the meat, but unimpressed that I had a scheduled reservation but still had to wait 20+ minutes to be seated.
Wasn’t aware it was going to be loud. The table we were close to were way too loud and obnoxious. We had to yell at each other to hear one another. I wasn’t able to finish my food and they didn’t even ask if I wanted to box it up. They just threw it away before I got to say I wanted to box it up. What a waste of food to just be thrown away like that. And the server didn’t really seem to want to help us, just because we’ve never been there before. We felt we weren’t treated fairly cause we saw how he was treating the other guests. He was pleasant with them, but fake with us.
Great food and great service.
Longtime fan always good
Very very loud ... no conversation was possible! Desapointed about tablelocation despite very early reservation ! Food is excellent!
We go every year for a friends bday and it never disappoints!!!
Very traditional prime rib restaurant with a only ribs in the menu.
Not my first time here, but it was for my date and he thoroughly enjoyed our time there. He was impressed by the quality of service and how attentive the servers were. Although a bit noisy (we were sitting in a back room), the ambiance is still great for anything from a date to a work dinner.
Food portions were extremely generous, as always, and the cocktails were strong. I‘ll definitely come back if I am able to snag another reservation!
Although expensive you get a lot for your money - salad and sides on top of a generous cut of prime rib.
Welcomed warmly and seated promptly. Service was excellent and as always the food and ambience were outstanding.
I've been coming to this place for 35 years and only had one bad experienced, other that the food is fantastic and the bartenders, waitresses outstanding.
Unbelievable food- We had a blast and will definitely be back!
Very friendly and helpful staff, classic prime rib dinner.
I don't know why anyone would want to eat anywhere else! The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. This restaurant has been in business for years and it is obvious why. They do everything right! This is perfect for special occasions and we will be frequenting this restaurant for all our special occasions in the future!
The house of prime rib is a family favorite for us. We can always depend on exceptional service and amazing food. I highly recommend to come here for a special occasion.
It was amazing.
Once again our group of four had a wonderful dinner at the House of Prime Rib. Our server was exceptional and our evening was relaxing and fun. We enjoyed our cocktails and never felt rushed. The food was delicious from the incredible house salad, creamed spinach, baked potato with all the fixings, and Yorkshire pudding to the delectable prime rib. Did I mention the absolutely fresh and delicious sourdough bread? The House of Prime Rib is a long time SF neighborhood gem not to be missed. We look forward to our next dining experience at this wonderful establishment!
Truly best prime rib in the nation!
Great food as always. The staff is wonderful and attentive.
Just excellent. One of the best restaurants I have ever been
Great food for the value! Love that they have a Child’s Plate that was very reasonable for the price. My family loves coming here!
I enjoyed a great meal here with the special salad, prime rib, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, creamed spinach, and Yorkshire pudding. The loaf of hot sourdough bread served before the meal was outstanding. If you have never been to House of Prime Rib, you need to go for the food and experience. The place is popular so make your reservation as early as possible. David, the server, was wonderful and accommodating.
We celebrated a wedding today. Service was great. It is pricey so just know that and enjoy it.
Great prime rib. Make reservations early. Very popular place.
Going to this restaurant was like going back in time. They roll around carts that look like small airstream trailers and introduce you to your "chef", meaning the guy who cuts a slab of meat for you. The beef was tender but not very flavorful, the creamed spinach looked and tasted like it came out of a can and the baked potatoes were the size of small footballs. The salad is dressed with great fanfare table side with a "secret" dressing which was pretty boring. The whole experience seemed like something out of the fifties. Mediocre, expensive food. But clearly they have their following. It takes over a month to get a reservation. Someone else can have my place next time.
Seated promptly (whole party needs to be there to be seated), they chilled our white wine for us and also decanted a red, and we had the best server. Food was fantastic and we all left so full and satisfied.
I still love to bring friends here for the food quality and the reputation. Yet the seating for us four was really too tight - - "collapsed" bench seats with the table so close to your "mouth", hahaha.
Service was good. Yet I felt that we were rushed after only 45 minutes. I ended up ordering dessert to extend our stay a bit longer.
Never disappointing, food is superb for carnivores. Simple menu, that is the beauty of this place. Service exceeds our expectations. Consistency is the key!
Reservations are a must!!!
HOPR is a restaurant I’ve been going to since I was a little girl, back in the days when it didn’t require making a reservation a month to two in advance. The food has maintained its quality and excellence through the years. Our most recent experience was no different; however, there was a long delay from when we were done with the salad to us getting our prime rib due to a backlog of several tables waiting to be served.
There is not a lot of variety to the menu, but what the do serve is done perfectly. I wish I had left room for dessert because the dessert menu looked wonderful. Our waiter, David, was great - friendly and very attentive. All of the staff is professional yet very friendly and accommodating. We had to make our reservations four months in advance and now I know why this is such a popular place. We'll be back!
For every get-together I organize, there's a reason everyone asks if I can get a reservation here! Great food, fantastic service (even late at night), and an all-around wonderful experience. Keep it up!
The food is great, the service is great. It is very loud and very hot. And the restaurant has no control over some of it’s clientele who at times appear to have never been let outside in public. But overall this is an absolutely great meal at a great price.
Over rated restaurant. I mentioned my family was celebrating my moms birthday and it was her first time to The House of Prim Rib 3 different times. Once in the reservation, again when confirming, and again with the server. Our server provided a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it for the occasion and said “happy birthday.” It was pretty lame compared to the other servers who actually took the time to sing happy birthday.
The other issue I have is that I noticed the table next to us came in after us, ordered after us, and still got their food before us. We were a party of 5 and they were only 3 but that still didn’t make sense to me.
As much as I used to like this place I’m pretty sure it’ll be a while before I comeback. Food was good, but definitely not worth my trouble or time.
This place is a classic for good reason. Probably the best prime rib I have ever had. The meter stick by which I will judge all other prime ribs.
