House of Prime Rib Ratings and Reviews
We look forward to our dinner the very second we make reservations here. We have made it a habit to bring other couples here and show them why we cannot stop raving about the food. Cream of spinach is our absolute favorite. Our server John, who is a pro and we have had before, even brought out the cream of corn for the table to taste just so everyone would know first hand why the Cream of Spinach is better ;-) We always leave here full and happy. Holidays it is always much louder but still, the atmosphere and the lights, its a must for anyone who visits or lives in SF.
We have been going to HOPR for many years as part of a Christmas tradition with friends. The food is consistently outstanding and the restaurant is always beautifully decorated for the holidays. The downside is the large number of loud holiday parties that can make it difficult to have a conversation.
This year there was a noticeable slip in the service as well. Our server forgot our drink order, barely checked in with us, and was always very rushed. This is the reason for the slightly lower rating.
We had not eaten at House of Prime Rib in a couple of years and I would have to say the quality has gone down a bit. We were a party of 4 as we had bragged about HOPR to our friends. Prime Rib serving was not cut at our table, so that took away from the spectacle and presentation. Also our server was inexperienced and made a few errors and orders were mixed up. My wife and I had the English Cut, and the flavor and tenderness were very good. Our friends both had different cuts, but their plates were not as ordered. Popovers were a disappointment. Never had a popover that was more like a pancake. Overall a good experience, but also a disappointment from previous visits.
Love this restaurant. Can't wait to go back. Love the service, friendly staff, food & atmosphere. The only negative is that it takes months to get a reservation. I madecided my reservation for December in june. Because the last 3 years I missed going for my birthday, 12/13 , because I waited to late to make a reservation. Not this year. Can't wait to go back. I was so full when I left. I could hardly walk to the bus stop. I came from Fremont on bart.
I had a dinner reservation at 4:00 p.m. on a Sunday. I noticed, the later it got, the noise got louder. The restaurant seating was a bit snugged, not a lot of room.
The prime rib was wonderful, however, I thought the sides were a bit too salty or unsalted. The dining experience was great. It was quite expensive to me to have extra salty food or unsalted food. Would I come back any time soon, probably not.
This is our third annual family Christmas dinner with our adult children at the House of Prime Rib. They say the third time is the charm, and this was our experience at the restaurant this year. We had a wonderful server --full of personality, good natured and wanting to provide an excellent experience. (We definitely did not have this particular waiter during our previous visits!) In previous years, the delicious food was the ONLY draw, but this year we enjoyed every aspect of the experience. Can't wait til next year when we meet up at the House of Prime Rib.
I took my wife to the House of Prime Ribs on her birthday. Everything was fine until the young chief, Tony was arguing with her about her prime rib. She asked for med.-well AND not well-done BUT she got instead a well-done meat then later a med.-rare meat. The chief starting arguing with her that it was med.-well on both of them even though the 1st meat was very cooked and the 2nd one was light pink. The server had to intervene when she noticed that the chef kept talking and started raising his voice. The server removed the chef from my table and called the manager who later served my wife the correct order. The manager later apologized and said that the meat previously was well-done. I told him that the chef shouldn't be arguing with the guest but instead should try to get the meat done right.
There were 9 of us there last Friday for a 4:30 pm reservation. Everything went smoothly and we were seated promptly. This was a very special occasion; my son's 30th birthday and we had the best time. The food as always was delicious. We had 3 little one's with us and the kids menu was perfect and even came with ice cream and whip cream. Loved the early reservation as the restaurant is always busy and it was good for the kids. We even sat next to another family with kids so the kids all laughed and played together. Very unforgettable event. The server took 2 pictures and they came out really good. Looking forward to going back soon. Thank you.
House of Prime Rib is everything you want in a steak house. It has a classy old school charm with wood finishes, but most of all the meat and sides were outstanding. The steak just melts in your mouth with every bite. It comes with a very generous helping of bread and salad, baked or mashed potatoes, cream corn or cream spinach, and Yorkshire pudding. You can't go wrong with any of the sides you choose. Your waiter or waitress even gives you a little bit of a show when he or she prepares your salad or baked potato in front of you, which is absolute class. For dessert we had the strawberry shortcake which was delicious. This was my second time back and it has been a great experience everytime. Another great part of the experience is it doesn't break the bank for such a high class place. We did dinner for two and shared one dessert, which just came out to about $130 tip included. House of Prime Rib is such a gem in the city that you will never regret being a part of when you step in those doors. Your date will love you more too, guaranteed.
Wonderful place, great food, and stellar service. The decor is classic, but a bit bright inside. The place is very loud and full of tourists and children so not the best for a romantic date, but good to double or with a group. Oh, and don't forget to ask for seconds.
While the service was superb and the food very good (except for the salad being over-dressed), the noise level was unbearable and the attire and behavior of the way-too-many patrons really ruined the evening. It seemed 80% of the crowd (and it was a crowd — at the entrance, at the bar, in the various rooms) was drunk and yelling to be heard. Few people were well-dressed — lots of jeans & t-shirts. Admittedly, I was expecting a more refined atmosphere/clientele (given its price point) — all the tourists & yelling really ruined it for us. Despite the good food & service, I don’t know if I’d return. Disappointing—
My favorite prime rib place. Our waiter, Robin, was excellent. I always order the King Henry Cut so I can have leftovers. I usually order the baked potato with the works and creamed spinach. Their salad is also very delicious with that special dressing.
Our reservation was for 8:00pm and we arrived on time but we weren't seated until almost 9pm. Once seated the table cloth was stained, seasoning thats on the table was open without a cap the booth seats were old and dirty. Once we received our food it was just disappointing, nothing was hot, everything was warm. I mean we came all the way from Sacramento to just have some delicious prime rib and that was so disappointing.>
The food was delicious as usual. They keep their standards high to keep the same flavor for years. Through the years, seems to be more crowded and the turn over ratio has increased, which means they are just trying to get you in and out to get to the next table. They also took away the waiting area and turned it into a dining area. But like I mentioned earlier, the food is the star of the restaurant. Other than the food, the rest is very secondary.
