House Of Prime Rib Cut
a hearty portion of juicy, tender beef.
The Salad Bowl
a colorful mixture of healthy, crisp, seasonal greens prepared at your table, tossed in our unique house dressing.
A light dish of garden spinach whipped with fresh cream and pieces of bacon.
Aaron (our server) was awesome and fun, and the meat, prepared by Rivera, was mind-blowingly delicious! We loved the mashed potatoes and spinach and corn, too; oh, and the salad! I meant to pick up a bottle of that dressing but I forgot… Looks like we’ll need to go back! :D
Feeling kind of rushing us to finish all in an hour. We didn't even cut the bread up and the salad was there already. While just laying the salad fork, our server was already asking the Chef to get our prime rib ready. My server did check on us but seems busy running around due to short staff. Portion are definitely smaller than before.
We used to come here every family birthday, graduation, anniversary, etc. We didn't come for 1-1/2 years because of the Pandemic, but returned last night to celebrate a graduation.
The prices are much higher, while the portions are smaller. We didn't mind the smaller portions so much, but the higher prices are just gouging. There also were much fewer choices in the menu--basically one fish option and no more crustaceans for non-red meat eaters.
The service was poor as well. We had a trainee prepare our salad, and she hardly spun it and poured too much seasoning salt without mixing it. We usually love the salad, but all three of us left almost half of our salad because it had clumps of seasoning salt.
Although the restaurant was less than full capacity, the wait staff also didn't refill our drinks very often. It was like we were being punished because I, very politely and gently, said the salads were too salty.
We were not asked if we were celebrating anything. The waitress was in a hurry to go to other tables and didn’t check on us.She gave me my husbands prime rib with my sides and laughed it off.Food was Great!!!!
The prime rib is just Awesome but the cocktails + sidecar…? AmAzInG!
HOPR has always been my family's go to for special occasions. We love the consistency of the food (pre and pst Covid) and last night was equally wonderful. The meal was exceptionally good and the staff was very attentive. HOPR never disappoints!
The food is always good. First timers will not be disappointed, although experience may fade with frequent visit. Service is exceptional. Depending on the vibe you're going for, this place could either make it or break it for you. To me, it felt cramped and too dark.
As always, HOPR does not disappoint. Great food and ambiance - if you go here, you know what you’re going for.
Perfect meal as always. This is a perfect place that we always return for special occasions
Everything was excellent. A must have restaurant for SF natives or someone just visiting.
Finally able to celebrate my birthday again at HOPR. Best spot in town.
Everything was wonderful as usual. Except we got seated 30 minutes after our reservation and the host walked us around in a circle through the restaurant to tell us that the seat we were supposed to sit in was taken.
Finally back at HOPR and boy did we miss this place! We've been going to this restaurant since we were kids. So to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, it was great to be able to celebrate here. Service was great. Our waiter, Orlando, was super nice, got all our orders correct and was very attentive. Asked how everything was more than once. Almost at each interval.
A man in a suit came over and asked how everything was, and everything was good. I was finally able to meet Evan (manager). I wanted to put a face to the name/voice since we spoke 3 times on the phone. It was very nice to meet him.
Our bus person/Orlando's assistant was EXCEPTIONAL!! Mr Lee (he told us his name was Mr Lee several years ago). He always greets us warmly and we're ALWAYS happy to see him. He's always very attentive, helpful and he's Always so kind. We were especially happy to see him even after the pandemic. He's definitely a keeper. I hope they give him a raise!
I ordered King Henry cut (medium/pink) and hubby got the city cut (end cut). Definitely smaller than before. We weren't sure if we got the wrong cut, so we Asked if we got the house cut instead of KH cut. Orlando said that was the KH cut. It was good but not as "melt in your mouth" as pre-pandemic. Every time we used to go, it was always melt in your mouth good, it was like heaven in every bite. The sides were still consistent and on point. We had sautéed spinach and baked potato. OMG, sooo good.
As for dessert, we shared a strawberry shortcake. Just as we remembered it. On point like always.
Overall, this is still a great place to go to if ur in the city and craving prime rib (and if u can get a reservation).
Love it and will always go back every chance we get.
It was wonderful to be back at house of prime rib the food just as fantastic as always. Thank you for being open.
Excellent i was happy.
In Covid times, the restaurant had a few empty tables for what seems like 80% seating capacity. It was my second indoor experience post covid and it was nice. The tables are not packed together like previously. The server was attentive and helpful when we needed extra horseradish or napkins. There is an extra $2 for secret menu request such as henry the viii cut english style and request for both corn spinach. They did charge us extra for bottle wine corkage since they thought we opened 2 bottles. All the staff had mask on. Overall a good dining experience.
Our server was super nice and attentive. Prime rib was tasty and cooked perfectly. Sides were a little salty so we didn’t finish them but overall a great meal to celebrate my son’s bday.
Colin was one of the best waiters we've ever had and pretty much all the waiters are great at HOPR so that's saying a lot about Colin! Food was delicious as always.
As usual experience was awesome and the food come on! It the house of prime rib!
Great time wonderful food
Celebrated family birthdays and graduation
Fast service, amazing food and overall great experience
Our family always enjoys going there to eat!
The waiter was a little weird. He seem disappointed we didn’t order drinks and we had a birthday cake and he kept on saying “ we can slice this or wrap it up for you?”
Service was a little rough but food abd reception always superb, so it must be just the waiter.
But thank you for another great meal!
Delicious as always! Prime rub cooked perfectly, incredible service & always a lovely treat. So happy they survived Covid & are back at it!!!
The prime rib was cooked to perfection. We all had the Henry VIII cut. The only problem we had when we asked for seconds we got a very thin slice of 3 to 4oz. I’ve been use to getting a repeat of same order I guess they don’t do that anymore.
Amazing food and ambiance! Perfect for our date night! Book now and waaaay in advance!
Fantastic visit - my first time did not disappoint! Food and service were excellent.
HOPR has not skipped a beat since lockdown. The staff. food and bar are as remembered. We were a party of 6 and sat in the front main room. I forgot about the volume level that room generates. I did an open table reservation and that was where we were seated. If you want something quieter and more intimate maybe call and specify a back room. Much appreciation that this SF institution survived. We had a marvelous evening. Thank you! XO
Salty! Waiter was Cold, he didn’t seem like he wanted to be our waiter. The food was Salty tonight.
It's everything you would expect from House of Prime Rib. Great service, amazing food and an energetic ambiance.
Took some friends for their first experience as a anniversary celebration. Everyone had great food, delicious cocktails and we got a repeat waiter in the back room. This is why we are regulars!
Love House of PR! Service got a little slow at the end. But yay won’t stop me from going again.
This is an outstanding restaurant. If you love good Prime Rib, this is the place.
Best meal I have ever eaten, you never leave hungry if you still have room after the first plate they give you more prime rib and sides. Service is always top notch every time I go.
It is great you guys are open, we miss the prime rib.
The best Prime Rib ever! Maybe because of the pandemic, people are excitingly loud! The environment is supposed to be not too loud. Besides that everything was amazing!
Hands down the best prime rib I’ve ever had it. It was cooked perfectly. Great service all around we will be back.
