House of Japan - Polaris Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant really rushes you through your meal. Line up to get to your table, hurry up and order, eat your salad, down your soup, watch the chef, pay your bill and get out of the way. If you don't leave the table right away expect glares from the staff until you do. We have been to many Japanese Steak houses before, and never experienced such behavior before.
This may have gotten a higher rating but the service was very rushed. It took forever for them to take our drink orders and meal orders. Then the chef rushed to cook our food and after about 15 min we were brought our bills and to go containers. We weren't even done eating . Wont be going their again.
This was a great outing. Despite the fact that there were some technical issues with our grilling station the chef did an amazing job getting our meal cooked and management came to apologize several times and provided a discount for our dinner. We will be sure to visit again. The food was both excellent and plentiful.
Food service was way too slow. Felt terrible seeing that live food performance on our table was way too small and not happening as we saw on other table. Price of food didn't do justice to the food served. Order dinner entree of shrimps and chicken and our plate was full of rice and little shrimps n chicken. Funny that we could actually count how many pieces were there in plate. Terrible.
Took our mothers there for Mother's Day. The restaurant was very busy and, although we had a reservation, I was prepared for a long wait. I was pleasantly surprised to be seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. The food was very tasty and the service was good.
This was my second visit to this establishment since coming back to Columbus. House of Japan is always a home run choice! I love it, family and friends love it when we go; food is amazing every single time. The chefs keep us cracking up all throughout the meal, and the service staff is extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating.
My only complaint with this visit was at our arrival. I made a reservation on Open Table for that same evening. When we arrived, I was informed that reservations were running 25 minutes behind. On top of this, the waiting area was packed. While I understand it's a busy Saturday night, it would have been great to have been given a heads-up before arrival. Though it put us behind on our plans for after dinner, overall it was a great experience I would highly recommend to anyone to check out for themselves. I'll be back to House of Japan very soon.
Our chef was great, attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and serving size very generous. We go to this House of Japan quite often and it along with the other House of Japan in Dublin are the best teppanyaki Japanese Steakhouses in the area.
Our only disappointment was that our server looked and acted extremely stressed thru much of the meal. Not until we were almost finished eating did we see her smile and friendly.
It's fun to watch the chefs preparing the meal at your table especially because they start with a juggling show. I've been to Japan and never experienced such a show at a restaurant so I doubt that is authentic.
It gets uncomfortable as soon as other guests leave your table. I felt like being urged to leave too. The food prepared at your table was very good. Nice choice of Asian beer.
It took us over 30 minutes to be seated for our reservation. The filet was very good but the chicken was overcooked and tough. The sauces were thin and vinegary. The fried rice was overly oily but tasty. The waiter was over booked and was unable to keep our drinks filled and also had trouble responding to requests. One of the chefs next to us was uncomfortably loud and was throwing shrimp across the room to a table way over on the other side of the room over our heads. Some people at our table were uncomfortable including us. The tables are too close together in the dining room. It will be hard for us to find a good reason to return.
Made a 5pm reservation, for a party of 9, for my 10year olds birthday. Made the reservation online, a week in advance. At the time of the reservation, in the "comments" box for "special occasions", I added it was her 10th birthday dinner and we wanted the birthday package.
6 of us arrived at 445. We checked in, and I reminded the hostess we had a birthday girl with us. 2 more arrive at 455. The last, was less than 5 minutes away. There were 5 open tables at that time. By the time the last person showed up, the hostess had sat other "walk-in" guests and there were no tables available. She stated we had to "wait". We waited another 30 minutes.
We were seated, we placed our drink orders. When the waitress returned and took our food orders, I opened the menu to the "birthday package" page and pointed it it and my 10 year old. The waitress nodded her head in agreement.
Chef came out, show he did was great. Bee personable and funny. He prepared our meals. Other than the rice being a little under done, food was spectacular.
Received the bills, but nothing for the birthday girl. Our waitress wasn't back long enough to bring it up. Our 10 year old was pretty sad.
Love the food. Love the chef. Other staff is inattentive and has an "oh well, I don't care attitude". But we feel they ruined our 10year olds dinner expectation. Or something they can make up for.
We love going to House of Japan. The servers are usually great. This time he was hard to understand, got our drinks wrong and served soup with and obvious piece of hair in it. The cook could have been more entertaining but did a good job. One suggestion as a courtesy; if you have a seafood allergy tell the waitress before you are seated. The other people that sat with us had a seafood allergy and all of our seafood had to be cooked at the end so it wouldn't mix with the other persons food. We understood why, but the rest of our food was cold by the time our seafood was ready. Overall still my favorite hibachi!
The food was good! However we made a reservation through Open Table for 7:00pm and did not get seated till 7:30 pm. The hostesses could not give a reason for why it was taking so long. I had the feeling that they overbooked due to everthing that was happened in Columbus this weekend. I felt like why did I even take the time to make a reservation because it didn't even matter.
We were not impressed. We had reservations for 6 and we were not sat till 6:25, we have young children and therefore make reservations so that we don't have to wait. The waitress running around and not attentive to us at all. Forgot drink orders and rushed to give a birthday song at the end after the whole table left. For the price, I will not return.
