Hour Time - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We were seated in a small room that had just enough space for our reservation of 7. Within the first 10 minutes the lights went out. We were told that they overheat and that as soon as they cooled off they would come back on. This happened 3 or 4 times during the Mothers Day breakfast meal. Of the six omelets ordered, 1 was made correctly and the hash browns were cold.
A group of long time residents gathered for Sunday lunch and are glad we chose Hour Time. What a relief from the monotony of chain restaurants. A wide variety of offerings so something for everyone (although we would have loved a breakfast offering at noon on Sunday). Salmon, club sandwich, lobster bisque, salads...all were outstanding and prices extraordinarily reasonable. Attentive friendly service. We will be back again soon.
We made reservations for New Year's Eve on that morning and got reservations at 5:30. When we arrived the table was ready, and we were immediately seated. The waitress was prompt and gave us some basic information about the menu that was helpful. Our salads were served fresh and in a short time frame. Three of the four of us had the petite prime rib which was prepared just as we had ordered it.
We were at our table for about an hour eating and exchanging gifts. The restaurant was busy, but not overly busy. We know we were taking a table and planned to tip extra. The young man who was seating people came over and told us that they had another reservation and would be needing our table. We were ready to leave, but I have not received that type of comment before and unfortunately, it was reflected in the tip. We thought the waitress asked him to turn over the table. I come to Hour Time frequently and have never been treated in this manner. We were disappointed.
We visit this restaurant a lot due to the nice atmosphere. How every the food quality is gone down. Some food not prepared the way it supposed to be (e.g. the bad part of the baked patato was not removed before baked, 1/3 of whole piece of the prime rib was fat, leaving not much to eat), not to mention that after the entire meal, we were still hungry for something. It's too bad that this is one of the local restaurants that we like to visit often. Hope the restaurant will improve soon.
My wife and I had Thanksgiving diner at Hour Time. It had been a few years since the last time we were there. The service, atmosphere, and food were the same as years past, OUTSTANDING!
Even though the New York Strip stuffed with crab was not on the menu, the waitress ask the chef if it could be made. I was served the New York strip with crab, and it was exactly how I remembered it from years past, VERY delicious! The Hour Time restaurant continues to be one of the finest restaurant in Lafayette.
I used Open Table so my request would be in writing and more readily adhered to. This was a birthday lunch for my sister who was visiting here from South Carolina. She has not been in town to celebrate her birthday for 20 years. It was a very special occasion. I requested on the Open Table form that I would like the small birthday cake that Hour Time is noted for presenting on such an occasion. I have experienced this scenario many times at Hour Time. I even included in my request that an extra charge would be acceptable. The experience was ruined because my request was ignored. Instead of arriving with a cake as a surprise for my sister, the server asked if we wanted to order dessert. It was pointless to make an issue as my sister would have been grossly embarrassed. What would have been a perfect ending to an otherwise lovely lunch, fell flat and left the three others attending who were looking forward to the surprise, feeling totally let down. It was awkward and very disappointing. For years, Hour Time has been the place to go for a birthday lunch for my friends and I. I'll choose elsewhere in the future.
Hadn't been to Hour Time for about a year as the previous time out dinner (prime rib) could be described as mediocre at best. Unfortunately nothing has changed . Prime Rib this time was again tasteless and over cooked. A real disappoint from appetizer to entree. For additional consideration their appetizers are more like bar food. Would recommend not wasting your time .... Go to McGraws!
Our server Emily was very good but the food was just about basic and the tell tale sign was that it was attached to a Best Western hotel. The sign said that it was award winning and the reviews were good but the reviewers must have eaten at the wrong restaurant. Wings were chicken nuggets. The chicken dish was drowned in sauce and the prime rib had been left in the warming tray too long. Never again!
I expected a nice quiet dinner with my wife. Making a reservation I thought there might be consdieration given to the number of people and the size of the table. The hostess took us upstairs to a table right at end of the stairs and it was a table for four. They knew it was our wedding anniversary so I thought we might be place in a quiet spot at a table for two. the lack of menu items was disappointing. the waitress, although not rude, was not very professional.
We had a valentine's day reservation as did everyone else coming into the restaurant, however since we put in a late reservation (day of) they hadn't updated their list and I had to finally get the host's attention to the fact he skipped over us 2 times and sat people who came in after us with later reservation times. We were then sat between a cement brick wall and a green copper overhang therefore the scenery they brag about did not exist! The waitress finally came to take our drink order and took 15 minutes getting back with beverages, once we ordered it was close to 1 hour before we got our food. We realize it was a busy special type of night but the wait was unrealistic. The food was the best part of the occasion, however it wasn't anything to write home about. You can get as good or better from Texas Roadhouse or Outback. I have lived in Lafayette for 15 years and this is my first and last trip to Hour Time.
We made our reservations a week in advance and some time slots were already taken, they must be doing something right. Being Valentine's day we asked for a quiet seat up stairs in the balcony area by the tree, and it was quiet and nice the whole time.
Our server was sweet and polite and helped with a couple of good suggestions with options for our meal, the food was served hot and hadn't sat long in the kitchen so thumbs up to our server. One note more, our food was taking a bit longer than normal and server came up and informed us they had had a plate drop in the kitchen, and had to remake one meal, but it wouldn't be 5 minutes longer and apologized like crazy. We were in no hurry and thanked her for being honest and just letting us know and sure enough within just a few more minutes our food was ready. i'll always appreciate staff that keeps you informed and is honest with you.
I had a fish dinner that was not over done and nice and flaky and my boyfriend had a filet cut of steak that was cooked just the way he wanted it, over all the food was spot on. The wine list could use a bit of improvement but we found a nice red wine to have with supper and really that's about the only real critic i'd have for the place. We go here any time we want good food , nice people, and a quiet night out and they did not disappoint us this time.
While the atmosphere and restaurant are great that is the only thing they have going for them. A $35 bone in ribeye should be a great cut of meat they missed horribly. While it was cooked to my liking, the steak was flavorless, like the chef forgot even the basic salt and pepper preparation. I almost asked for A1 steaksauce to eat it but instead used my wife's horseradish sauce from her awful prime rib! I only use A1 when the meat is not good. As for my wife's "prime" rib, there was nothing prime about it. It seemed to be cooked to the proper temperature, but as it sat on her plate both the taste and the color changed...maybe why the restaurant has such low lighting, but you can't fool those tastebuds! It was not good at all and she could only choke half of the petite cut down. Thankfully that meant that I could use the extra horseradish on my ribeye. The baked potatoes were good though.
The service was another story. The reataurant was clearly understaffed as the server apologized every time she did make it to our table about the wait. She seemed to be working hard, but needed some help.
Without going into more details, we will not be going back to Hour Time. It's disappointing as I was excited about taking my IU grad wife to show off this classic Lafayette restaurant where I had my fraternity senior dinner 20 years ago. Unfortunately the food has not evolved with the times and we were both very disappointed and paid over $100 for a meal that was really bad. I guess we will have to stick with the old classic Triple X in the future.
Hour Time is a uniquely designed restaurant that is great for small groups of four to six who want to meet up over good food and drink to visit. The menu is somewhat limited--chicken, fish and steaks--but what they offer is reliable and tasty. We enjoyed the evening, the service, and the food. We'll be back!
I brought my parents here for lunch, because it was close to their hotel, and not fast food. They gave us a table in a quiet area, just as I had requested, and the service was great. There is something on the menu for everyone. Dress is casual, as is the atmosphere. There is finer dining downtown, but if you don't want fast food on "the strip" (SR 26) this is a good choice!
I used to go to Hour Time years ago with my parents when they would visit me at Purdue. So while we were back in Lafayette for the evening, I took my husband there - hoping to create more wonderful memories. The service was mediocre, at best. We waited a very long time for drinks, water refills, to be acknowledged, etc. Our food was incorrectly plated, so he and I were "swapping" contents of our plates at the table while the server watched. My husband ordered the prime rib - medium rare, and there was no pink whatsoever. He did not want to send it back in fear that he'd have to wait a long time, given that the table next to us waited an hour to receive their food after ordering - literally! We will not return.
We arrived a bit early had made it through lighter traffic than expected and they got us right in anyway. I personally like the steak selection there and ordered a NY strip, my husband ordered a filet. Both came as ordered along with a pleasant waitress and s smile. We've never had a bad meal here and love the atmosphere. It's the place to go if you want a quiet night out and good food.
