Simply a fantastic meal. Wonderful service. Food was delicious. First course was incredible and every subsequent course was even better.
Traveling. Great place. Very good server price good
We chose Glen Gordon Manor (Houdstooth) to celebrate our anniversary and it more than delivered. It was an intimate dinner with attentive and personable waitstaff. We were able to meet the chef prior to our meal, gather a drink, and tour the manor house...all very relaxing and enjoyable. The chef paired wines with each course and all were outstanding. Once again, I tasted and enjoyed foods I'd never had before and the price was very reasonable. Great value, great food, and great service!
We always bring out of town friends here for dinner. The food is always superb, and the wine is outstanding. If you’re lucky spend the night to enjoy breakfast and a relaxing Spa Day too.
Delicious food, perfectly prepared and creatively presented. Well worth the trip from DC metro area.
We were graciously welcomed at the front door of the Inn by Andrew who was also our waiter for the evening. He showed us to our table and began dinner service. Each course came out at an easy pace, we never felt rushed or that things were lagging behind either. The 5 course dinner with wine is just enough to be filling and interesting without feeling stuffed at the end. The salmon ceviche with pickled cucumbers was a favorite. Chef came out to serve the 4th/main course at the end (roast beef) and we had a nice conversation with him about the Inn and his inspiration behind the business there. One constructive comment to make: the dining room was over air conditioned, a sweater was necessary all night. We later peeked into Chef's modest but very tidy commercial kitchen to surprisingly find 2 wing backed chairs against a bay window in the back where guests can observe him cooking. The Inn itself is very compact like a personal home and has a welcoming feel to it. The decor is classic and elegant without being stuffy or dated. A large living room with comfy furniture is available for reading and relaxing past the sleeping rooms. Next visit will be overnight. A very personal and friendly experience for our 24th wedding anniversary. Will be back.
A lovely evening in Rappahannock county
We have always enjoyed dining at glen Gordon manor
Great service of the excellent food. Ambience is fine, and we will be back!
Worth it in every way. Great food great presentation great wine selection. The owner chef is amazing. They do a 5 course price fixed meal and everything is done from scratch, He even makes the bread.
Beautiful dining room but basically an overpriced disappointment.
Excellent food and wine served by a wonderful staff. Beautiful vista surrounding the manor added to a very special evening.
We loved the whole experience and would highly recommend to everyone that wants a great wine and food pairing experience..Thank you!
Gift for friend who edited my son’s book
Dane is a superb Chef! One of our best meals ever! A great way to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary! Highly Recommend for a special occasion. A Stay at the Glen Gordon Manor is equally perfect. Tim Trish
Every bite was a new, amazing, experience
Celebrated a family birthday with dinner at Houndstooth this past weekend. What a spectacular experience! A lovely inn, impeccable service, every course of the meal, spectacular, and a perfectly selected wine pairing. In our opinion, most definitely on par with The Inn. We look forward to returning again . . . and again!
I was completely blow away on how personal our entire experience was. I felt like I was going to a friends house for dinner! We came in and had drinks by an open fire before dinner which made us relax and enjoy the hunt room. Once we sat down for dinner, I was blown away that it was only a handful of tables for seating. The food was sensational and wine pairings couldn't have been more perfect. The staff really made our night one to remember. Thank you Dan Moore from 8393 West Main for the recommendation!
Less expensive and pretentious than the Inn at Little Washington, but with excellent food and perfect wine pairings. Highly recommend.
Chef Smith produces michelin starred food . A wonderful experience. Beautiful grounds and first class accommodations. Go!
For the price it was not a great experience. Our server spent several minutes trying to open a wine bottle at our table. At this price point, I would expect when the server was having a problem opening the bottle, we would expect the server to go and get a new bottle. The cork was dry and came out out of the bottle in several pieces, and the wine tasted compromised. The food was good, but we did not think outstanding. The short ribs were over cooked and cold. In my mind, a restaurant gratuity is not automatic, here it is added to the bill, 20%... you as the customer have no choice unless you want to make an issue of it -- typically not worth it. While I always give 20%+ for an outstanding dining experience, I would have reduced it a bit for this meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, as were the people, but in our opinion, the service could have been better, and the food and wine were not 5-star.
We celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary at Houndstooth Restaurant, which proved a delight to both the occasion and all the senses. Elegant yet warm ambiance, friendly and expert service, and outstanding flavors and presentation were exceptional. Put Houndstooth on your culinary bucket list.
The food, the staff, the location...everything is top notch here. We’ve been multiple times and the food is always excellent and innovative. This time we were served truffle soup and we all agreed it was the BEST soup we’ve ever had. The wine pairings are always amazing too. This is a very special place.
This was our second visit and it was as good as the first, which is outstanding. Everything is excellent including the flavors, cohesiveness, creativity, and presentation. The servers are wonderful and helpful and Chef Smith also serves one of your courses. There is only the one tasting menu and one seating time so if there's something not to your liking in those areas, there aren't options. They will prepare vegetarian and accommodate allergies, etc. The truffle soup course and the lamb main course were the highlights for us - but the menu changes weekly so your courses will likely differ. We love the intimacy of the dining room which seats roughly 20 - but for our dinner was about 8. We also like that the wine list has several Virginia wine options, along with many more from all over. If you can, you should stay in one of their on-site suites at the Glen Gordon Manor as well.
Wonderful setting and excellent chef! Enjoyed our meal and stay for our Anniversary weekend.
Great choice for a special meal. Food was delicious and well well presented, service was impeccable.
The service and food was exceptional and the ambiance romantic and quiet.
Five courses, all rave-worthy, served in an elegant comfortable setting where you don’t have to shout to be heard by your dinner companions.
First course : an heirloom tomato and burrata salad that would have been delicious without — but was elevated to something truly memorable by — the additions of basil ice cream and olive oil foam.
The second course was my personal favorite: a creamy lobster broth with cognac espuma. Amazing. It was velvety but not as rich as a lobster bisque, and had an intense lobster flavor.
My table mates next enjoyed a jumbo lump crab terrine with a fresh pea purée, fava beans, and a citrus vanilla vinaigrette. Oohs and aahs all around. And when I mentioned that I was allergic to crab meat (but not other shellfish/crustaceans) they trotted out as a pinch hitter on short notice ... a duck confit underlaid by a meltingly sweet disc of onion, accompanied by a duck mousse with rosé jam and, as a refreshing contrast to the richness of the duck, a small fennel salad.
The final savory course was prime aged beef tenderloin, with roasted heirloom vegetables, a swipe of squash purée and, most memorably, smoked mashed potatoes. More restaurants should be smoking potatoes. The steak was served a beautiful roseate rare.
For dessert, three items served side by side : Greek yogurt panna cotta, bread and butter pudding, and rhubarb sorbet. All three delicious, none overly sweet.
I don’t normally offer unreservedly glowing reviews of restaurants. I like to also point out less successful efforts of the kitchen. But, honestly, there were absolutely no missteps at this meal. Every single course was great.
The restaurant is part of an inn and is tiny, with just six tables. The windows look out on some beautiful Virginia countryside, the service is impeccable without being overbearing, and they pay attention to the details. Wine pairings are well chosen, the bread and butter were outstanding.
Exceptional dining at the magical Glen Gordon manor. Proprietor/owner Chef Smith makes every dining guest feel at home. The five course dinner was superb with excellent and sometime surprising wine pairings. A real gem in the beautiful Piedmont countryside where no detail is overlooked. We watched as Ched Smith personally helped a physically challenged guest arrive at the Manor and get seated for his wife for dinner. Clearly not expected of a world class chef, but certainly appreciates from world class host at an beautiful and luxurious inn. Service was outstanding but expect for all to be served at the same time, so a little different from the normal five star restaurant. A wonderful, amazing evening for my wife and I who are locals. We will definitely be back.
Amazing food, the chef has excellent skills, presentation compliments taste. Cozy setting. Perfect for a special occasion.
We have eaten here before and it is always a treat. Dane is a great chef and the wine pairing are wonderful. Service is beautiful. Just the right amount of time between courses. Love the fresh local ingredients and imaginative menus. Highly recommend.
A fantastic meal in a delightful and relaxing setting.
I love this restaurant. The drive out is beautiful and the location and food are fantastic! We are never disappointed when we eat here.
Delicious meal, very accommodating to dietary restrictions without diminishing the enjoyment of the meal. A real special experience.
Chef/owner Dayn Smith presents a nightly five course prix fixe inventive, delicious dinner with optional, well matched wine pairings. Beautiful setting in his Shenandoah Valley Glen Gordon Manor Inn, in an intimate candle lit dining room.
An unbelievable experience. Pre fix dinner so let them know in advance if you do not eat a particular item. 5 course meal all courses were excellent. Rutabaga soup was outstanding as was the Beef wellington.. Can't say enough about how good the food was and the overall experience. Wait staff was very knowledgeable and took us on a tour of the manor. Dane, the owner and chef came an spoke with us. Simply amazing!!!
Our group had a wonderful meal and evening. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a cozy meal with friends or a romantic meal for two.
My husband and I were here for dinner on Christmas Eve. This was our first visit and it was everything that we wanted, quiet, great food, and a pretty atmosphere. It was a beautiful cozy restaurant with a fire in the fireplace, we could actually have a conversation, and the food was fantastic. Highly recommend.
We at at Houndstooth three times in one visit: two breakfasts and Thanksgiving dinner. All were excellent. Owner-chef Dayn Smith is a remarkable entrepreneur, skilled as a chef and as an overall planner-businessman. We plan to return to Glen Gordon Manor, where Houndstooth Restaurant is based.
What’s left to say, if you want an exquisite beautifully honest meal at an incredible venue and served impeccably this is the place. Well worth the drive from DC or anywhere else for that manner
