As a parent of a university student, we've tumbled into a variety of local restaurants - and my daughter and I found Houlihan's consistent with other Houlihan's, yet we enjoyed the new menu and options very very tasty. Sometimes we like to eat hearty, but our most recent stop was before a concert at Krannert and we found enjoyable yummies in a speedy turnaround. Great young waitstaff, and delicious twists on favorites. The windows and the atmosphere make it feel special and modern - we will be back for yet another taste treat. I'd recommend it.
Fun environment, great service, yummy food (def have the stuffed mushrooms)
Houlihan's is an excellent comfort food restaurant that is located near University of Illinois sports facilities and is connected to one of the nicer hotels in this community. So, It works well before or after certain sports events and as more laid back everyday dining experience. on this occasion, e had small plates. I had pot stickers and their asian chicken lettuce wrap. I alos lke their ahi tuna appetizer. My wife had a small steak withsome goat cheese. We like what we got and the service received.
Great service & Great food.
Nice staff. Brunch menu was limited and the food was below average. Bacon was undercooked and served less than warm.
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Obviously a convenient location for out-of-towners attending U of I events, it still serves as a great dining experience for locals who want a place to relax and enjoy themselves without draining the budget. Our first of hopefully many visits, we feel that this is one of the better dining experiences in the area.
The menu changed- but they didn’t physically update the menu. Our waiter was less than present. Left a thing of water, took the order, brought the food and the brought the check. Nothing special.
Overall it was a very good experience. Service wasn't the BEST but definitely not bad. Everyone has their days. I wouldn't not go again just because of that. The food was delicious! Drinks were on the pricier side so I refrained from ordering any that night. It's a good happy medium between a standard everyday chain restaurant and the really expensive fancier restaurants in town. Great for a date night! I would definitely go there again.
We had a very nice dinner - my entree was particularly good - spiralized zucchini pasta in a salad and accompanied by a sausage tomato squash lasagna. Very filling and hard to believe that it was less than 500 calories. Can't wait to go back and have it again!
Scallops were wonderful. The house salad was uninspired--too much cheese, bacon, croutons--not enough interesting greens.
Great meal and service - a wonderful dining experience to kick off Visit Champaign County Restaurant Week!!
Stuff off us went to celebrate my birthday. I has signed up for their club and receive a birthday coupon for $15 off. Told the waiter at start of meal. Gave the coupon to him at the end of the meal. He took it but came back and said he couldn't take it because I bought from their special "Restaurant Week" menu. Nothing on the coupon says it can't be used for that and the waiter hasn't been told that advance. Two of us each got the $29 special dinner to celebrate, which is at least $10 more per person than we would have spent if we ordered off their regular menu, and they wouldn't honor their coupon. OUTRAGEOUS! They're solution was to handwrite on the printed copy of the coupon "to be used at a later date." So in order to use the $15 off birthday coupon, were out the cost of an expensive meal tonight and I would have to go back and try again. That's certainly a win for them. Pretty sure I'll meet be cashing that in. The general manager never even came to talk to me himself--just relayed messages through the other staff. You really know how to make a birthday girl feel special!
Love the food. The ahi tuna appetizer was super delicious. Will definitely come back again. Great service, clean and spacious seating area. Little bit pricy though, but worth the money.
Ethan was a great waiter, one of the best we have seen. I highly recommend him and this establishment.
Had a wonderful evening in a quiet alcove with a group of 8. Food was delicious and quite reasonable. We made a reservation for next month as we left.
A comfortable location for a quality meal with good service
Dined out while on a weekend getaway. Had a gift certificate we needed to use before it expired. We both had the filet and it was excellent.
Food was excellent with the exception of the "Holy Grail of Bacon" which was just chunks of pig fat. I was so disappointed with the appetizer that I wanted to send it back but I didn't. Rest of the meal was good. Their service has never been very good in the 3 years I've been going there and this was no exception...just no attention to detail and even had one of those "did they go on break?" moments. If they can get the service under control this would be a great place.
Good ambience, architect did a good job. Has a good vibe. Good food at a good price.
We went to Houlihan's for my birthday. One of the things I was surprised that they don't give you any kind of bread before or during the meal. Our server was efficient but not very friendly. The food was very good but I was surprised that the server offer water at the end of our meal as opposed to the beginning of the meal, again she seemed seemed off. Would definitely try to it again because the food was good. Hopefully we will get another server who is a bit more pleasant and friendly.
We came because it is close to State Farm center. We had 1 hr and 15 min before our show. Our waiter took forever to come to our table and then ran away without without mentioning anything on the menu to get water. Was gone for another 15 min. By the time he came back we had to order drinks and food together and that took another 30 min just to get some salads. Food was comparable to Applebee’s or chilies. As soon as the food came out we had to get the check. Thought it would be better because the restaurant is fairly nice. The service was worse than the food but I doubt we’ll come back.
The food was outstanding. Deep fried asparagus with lemon horseradish, dinner salad with balsamic vinegarette, scallops, chicken all very good.
Wait staff was slow and inattentive. Some of our meals were served cold. Hamburger was under cooked.
Our server was fantastic! We had 12 people at a long table and she never missed a beat.
Great service and great food!
After 12 hours on interstates, this Houlans and I Hotel Hotel and Conference center in the midst of a lovely large office Park is the perfect respite. This is our second year visiting and we treasure our time here. The staff could not be more thoughtful and gracious!! We would go out of our way to visit here again!
Good Food. Great Service.
Though windy, the outdoor patio is a very comfortable place to enjoy a meal with friends. I particularly enjoyed the seared tuna appetizer and the Asian lettuce wrap.
This was a dinner celebrating graduation so the restaurant was busy but there were so many open tables that I found it hard to believe that there was a reason for the delays. It took 15 minutes for our server to get to us and then the appetizer took 25 minutes to come out and only came out when we reminded the server. Then when the entree finally came out the food was not hot and the orders were wrong.
I wish I got the woman's name who was the manager. Wonderful person.
Great food and service!
Only downside is other diners were really noisy and loud. We could barely hear our guests talk. This has happened several other times too. If there are tables of kids after sporting events-we'll go elsewhere.
Still remains one of our fav places to go!
My friend and I visited Houlihan's prior to attending the Garth Brooks concert. It was the perfect place to eat, grab a couple of drinks, and catch up with each other before the event. The appetizers we ordered were a very generous helping each; try the cheese-filled mushrooms, they are excellent! The service was a little slow, but that was expected with such a large crowd drawn for the concert. With the restaurant located right across the street from State Farm Center, this was the perfect place for pre-concert festivities.
We probably came on the wrong night to get the very best experience. Garth Brooks was in town and the place was insanely packed, it was the Saturday he had the double concerts so they got hit before the first, before the second and again after the first. We got in right as the 2nd concert group was leaving, and honestly the bar area looked a hot mess. Once I got to the hostess stand, everyone looked like they had just survived battle. I've worked at a bar near a concert venue so I feel there pain, and being the only restaurant in walking distance ... I understand why they were extremely busy. Once we got seated, everything was fine. You could tell our server was stressed from what she just went through so we assured her that we were not concert goers and in no rush, nor are we the needy type. We got our drinks in a timely manner, as a wine drinker I appreciate that they offer a 9 oz pour. My date had a Stella and it was served in the Stella glass, which he really liked. We started with the Spicy Chicken & Avocado Egg Rolls, and I definitely highly recommend them. The salsa it is served with on the side was one of the best I have tasted. We both had a house salad with the ranch dressing on the side. The ranch is definitely housemade and made well, it's unique and flavorful. I had the Grilled Korean Chicken, it was delicious. It definitely packs a punch of heat but our server kindly told me before I ordered. I will definitely order again. My date had the 9 oz Sirloin with the honest gold mashed potatoes and green beans. Both sides were great but the mashed potatoes really stood out, his steak was cooked perfectly as well. Overall, we will definitely be back. An app, side salads, two entrees and two drinks each we were out the for around $100 ... which we found worth the value. However, you can definitely be out for way less as the menu features many different price points. Join their email club, they send great offers!
My wives food was cold when she got it and was not sure the chicken was done either. When I informed the waiter, he promptly apologized and asked if she wanted another one. When my wife said no, he said he would inform the manager and have that meal taken off the bill. Also provided free desert. We appreciated this!
Service is usually very slow here, so not a good stop if you're on a time schedule!
Chose this spot before a big concert at State Farm Center right across the street. The ability to make online reservations in advance was amazing! We walked in to a crowded waiting area and were seated immediately. Service, especially on such a busy night, was exceptional. Our server was very attentive, checked on us frequently, and provided drink refills very timely. Wide menu selection. Our food was delicious as well. Would absolutely come here again, anytime we are in town for an event. Wonderful!
Late lunch for mothers weekend with my son. I had to tell them that I had reservations, they did not ask. I was addressed by my first name and it was pronounced wrong. Maybe understaffed because the person that seated us seamed to be waiting tables as well and seemed flustered. He kept his composure. When our waitress came over to offer another beverage for my son, she came over with the soda can, opened it at the table and it splashed in him. Food seemed fresh and was flavorful.
Food and service was great. We had a member of our group with severe food allergies and he was accommodated easily. Eating out can be a big concern with food allergies so Houlihan's helpfulness is greatly appreciated. We will be back.
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat with some friends before going to the U of I basketball game. We were able to get in and out in less than an hour. My wife loved the SPIRALIZED BUTTERNUT SQUASH & SAUSAGE LASAGNA, spiralized butternut squash and sausage lasanga, I had the fish and chips which were nothing spectatular. Good service, friendly waitress and good value. My only negative was you had to pay $10 to park because it was game day, yet given Houlihan's proximity to the stadium I undersand.
