Houlihan's - Champaign Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent with the exception of the "Holy Grail of Bacon" which was just chunks of pig fat. I was so disappointed with the appetizer that I wanted to send it back but I didn't. Rest of the meal was good. Their service has never been very good in the 3 years I've been going there and this was no exception...just no attention to detail and even had one of those "did they go on break?" moments. If they can get the service under control this would be a great place.
We went to Houlihan's for my birthday. One of the things I was surprised that they don't give you any kind of bread before or during the meal. Our server was efficient but not very friendly. The food was very good but I was surprised that the server offer water at the end of our meal as opposed to the beginning of the meal, again she seemed seemed off. Would definitely try to it again because the food was good. Hopefully we will get another server who is a bit more pleasant and friendly.
We came because it is close to State Farm center. We had 1 hr and 15 min before our show. Our waiter took forever to come to our table and then ran away without without mentioning anything on the menu to get water. Was gone for another 15 min. By the time he came back we had to order drinks and food together and that took another 30 min just to get some salads. Food was comparable to Applebee’s or chilies. As soon as the food came out we had to get the check. Thought it would be better because the restaurant is fairly nice. The service was worse than the food but I doubt we’ll come back.
After 12 hours on interstates, this Houlans and I Hotel Hotel and Conference center in the midst of a lovely large office Park is the perfect respite. This is our second year visiting and we treasure our time here. The staff could not be more thoughtful and gracious!! We would go out of our way to visit here again!
This was a dinner celebrating graduation so the restaurant was busy but there were so many open tables that I found it hard to believe that there was a reason for the delays. It took 15 minutes for our server to get to us and then the appetizer took 25 minutes to come out and only came out when we reminded the server. Then when the entree finally came out the food was not hot and the orders were wrong.
Great food and service!
Only downside is other diners were really noisy and loud. We could barely hear our guests talk. This has happened several other times too. If there are tables of kids after sporting events-we'll go elsewhere.
Still remains one of our fav places to go!
My friend and I visited Houlihan's prior to attending the Garth Brooks concert. It was the perfect place to eat, grab a couple of drinks, and catch up with each other before the event. The appetizers we ordered were a very generous helping each; try the cheese-filled mushrooms, they are excellent! The service was a little slow, but that was expected with such a large crowd drawn for the concert. With the restaurant located right across the street from State Farm Center, this was the perfect place for pre-concert festivities.
We probably came on the wrong night to get the very best experience. Garth Brooks was in town and the place was insanely packed, it was the Saturday he had the double concerts so they got hit before the first, before the second and again after the first. We got in right as the 2nd concert group was leaving, and honestly the bar area looked a hot mess. Once I got to the hostess stand, everyone looked like they had just survived battle. I've worked at a bar near a concert venue so I feel there pain, and being the only restaurant in walking distance ... I understand why they were extremely busy. Once we got seated, everything was fine. You could tell our server was stressed from what she just went through so we assured her that we were not concert goers and in no rush, nor are we the needy type. We got our drinks in a timely manner, as a wine drinker I appreciate that they offer a 9 oz pour. My date had a Stella and it was served in the Stella glass, which he really liked. We started with the Spicy Chicken & Avocado Egg Rolls, and I definitely highly recommend them. The salsa it is served with on the side was one of the best I have tasted. We both had a house salad with the ranch dressing on the side. The ranch is definitely housemade and made well, it's unique and flavorful. I had the Grilled Korean Chicken, it was delicious. It definitely packs a punch of heat but our server kindly told me before I ordered. I will definitely order again. My date had the 9 oz Sirloin with the honest gold mashed potatoes and green beans. Both sides were great but the mashed potatoes really stood out, his steak was cooked perfectly as well. Overall, we will definitely be back. An app, side salads, two entrees and two drinks each we were out the for around $100 ... which we found worth the value. However, you can definitely be out for way less as the menu features many different price points. Join their email club, they send great offers!
My wives food was cold when she got it and was not sure the chicken was done either. When I informed the waiter, he promptly apologized and asked if she wanted another one. When my wife said no, he said he would inform the manager and have that meal taken off the bill. Also provided free desert. We appreciated this!
Chose this spot before a big concert at State Farm Center right across the street. The ability to make online reservations in advance was amazing! We walked in to a crowded waiting area and were seated immediately. Service, especially on such a busy night, was exceptional. Our server was very attentive, checked on us frequently, and provided drink refills very timely. Wide menu selection. Our food was delicious as well. Would absolutely come here again, anytime we are in town for an event. Wonderful!
Late lunch for mothers weekend with my son. I had to tell them that I had reservations, they did not ask. I was addressed by my first name and it was pronounced wrong. Maybe understaffed because the person that seated us seamed to be waiting tables as well and seemed flustered. He kept his composure. When our waitress came over to offer another beverage for my son, she came over with the soda can, opened it at the table and it splashed in him. Food seemed fresh and was flavorful.
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat with some friends before going to the U of I basketball game. We were able to get in and out in less than an hour. My wife loved the SPIRALIZED BUTTERNUT SQUASH & SAUSAGE LASAGNA, spiralized butternut squash and sausage lasanga, I had the fish and chips which were nothing spectatular. Good service, friendly waitress and good value. My only negative was you had to pay $10 to park because it was game day, yet given Houlihan's proximity to the stadium I undersand.
Stopped here before an Illini game for a quick bite. Ordered the mushrooms (very good), cubano eggrolls (good but didn't think salsa went with this item), and lettuce wraps (good with a bit of a kick). Didn't like that they brought out our soup first, quickly followed by the appetizers when we asked for the soup first and appetizers later on. Oh well. The menu is very extensive with many items I believe I would have liked, but we just wanted a quick bite so stuck with the appetizers.
We had dinner with a group before a U of I basketball game. I was amazed how the staff was able to serve a full house in such a timely manner to get everyone served before the game. The staff was operating at "full speed" to get the job done!! The filet magnon that my husband and I shared was fantastic--very tender and tasty!!
After the game, we stopped in for a small snack to take to our room. We were helped very quickly and had just a short wait for the take out! Congrats to the entire staff!!
Very well run restaurant!!
Visited prior to an Illinois basketball game - paid $10 to park and eat. Good location and easy walk. Service was good. We were seated at a table for 10 and only had 6 people. When asked if we would consider splitting table, we said of course - manager gave us a round of beers on the house! Food was solid. Beer cold.
I took a co-worker here for her birthday lunch. The staff was great to take our order early since we only had an hour to eat and had it ready on the table soon after we arrived. They have a choice of great drinks and the food has been great every time I have dined here.
I dined here with my mother and father recently for Father's Day. This was my first time but not theirs. We had a great time here! The food was good and we had a pleasant waitress. It was very quiet that day and I don't know if that was because it was Sunday in the afternoon or what. We noticed that the temperature was just perfect inside - not too cold and not too warm. It was just right and I will definitely dine here again. Thank you!
