Hot's Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We have been a fan of this restaurant for a while but the service has really been slipping recently. We were there this past Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was mostly empty and the service was AWFUL. We waited about 10 minutes for a server, we had to ask for someone to take a drink order - which was subsequently forgotten about because it was another 10 minutes before our drinks were delivered, food came out wrong and took forever -- and when we did finally receive some of our food you could tell that it had actually been sitting under the heat lamp for a really long time. All the while, we're watching two of the staff in the restaurant - including the person who took our order - chit chat in the corner of the restaurant. Won't be going back. Which is sad because I really used to like this place.
Sadly, we were massively disappointed by this visit to Hot's. A few years ago we rented a vacation home nearby. It became our go-to place for awesome beer selection, great food and fun vibe. We were back in the area for a long weekend. Hot's was our first stop for dinner. We were quickly disappointed by the lack of service and poor food quality. There big tables left uncleared for a long time, people at table looking around for help, and staff that looked frustrated. Our food was blah. Beers were good- hard to mess that up. They comped us two tacos, but it really didn't matter. Another issue, the lighting. It was oddly dark, not purposeful for ambiance, but as if lighting was missing. We will not be back.
Food was good. Service was awful. Didn't remember the entire table's order. Wasn't crowded and we waited for a long time for our food. It was my husbands birthday and I wrote it in the OpenTable reservation but they didn't seem to even remember or know that I had a made a reservation when I arrived.
We really enjoyed our meal. Best kale salad I have ever had! Brussel Sprouts and Cauliflowr were outstanding. Inventive tacos and great wine and beer selection. Service was very attentive and helpful. Only downside...parking was super difficult otherwise a very pleasant evening.
Great food and brews as always, but.... we were disappointed to see noticeably fewer taco choices. Even more disappointing, though, was to see the note on the menu about the 3% hospitality fee. I first saw this kind of thing at the Proud Bird and vowed never to go back. Just raise the prices if you must. And stop complaining about paying your employees a living wage and proving healthcare. That's pretty low class in my book.
Service was terrible. Food was a little too fried and then our waiter was rushing us out at 9:30 on a Saturday night saying last call while half the restaurant was full.
We have been to Hots many times previously. We were taking guests from out of town and food and service have dropped dramatically. I don't think we would go back.
It was bad, the Credit card machine wasn't working, they had no hot boiling water for tea,
They brought boiling water out of the regular fossit unbelievable, then we asked them to put it in the microwave.they had no sparkling water in a bottle, we couldn't sit in the bigger area due to the fact that a big group was coming so we had to sit in the noisy bar part, and guess what the big group never came and we where not able to sit there anyway. They apologized for everything because they knew things where of. They have no GM currently on staff and you can tell that is the case. Then to make it worse they turned the lights of, so we would go away I have never experienced that in my life. My spicy tuna taco was horrible the sauce was way to spicy and drenched in it I couldn't eat the tuna it was too fishy. I was shocked about the experience went there once before and none of this happened, it seems that either they are closing down or management is really dropping the ball. will never go again, sorry to say 1 out of 10 it was a 1, I felt bad for the servers because they where trying their best with the conditions of the restaurant given to them to deal with, management should be ashamed of themselves worst dining experience in Hermosa ever, very unfortunate...
As always, the tacos at Hot's were very good but I admit to being a little disappointed that the potato skins are no longer on the menu. The main reasons I am in no hurry to go back though are two that might not bother others. First, the noise level makes it nearly impossible to have a conversation. Second, they leave the front door open and on a November evening, it was REALLY cold in the restaurant.
I am disappointed once again in Hot's Kitchen. The food is incredible but the service is lousy. I keep going back for the tasty food but always leave annoyed by the service. This time, they didn't have my Open Table reservation for 8. I had to show them the reservation on my phone for them to believe me. They did sit my party, but at a table directly in the sun. We were boiling. We had to hold up menus for over an hour to cover our faces from the extreme sun. Meanwhile, an entire half the restaurant was empty, with the hostess telling us that side was closed. No apology from the manager while we sit with menus covering our faces and sweat streaming down our faces. The food came out at different times, with people at our table eating at different times. Drinks came out at different times too. The restaurant had no problems charging the extra gratuity, though. Food is good, but the frustration is just not worth it anymore.
Terrible service. Plenty of staff for a restaurant that was about 10% full on a Saturday night. Couldn't get around for a drink order for 20 minutes then it took another 15 and two reminders to get a bottle of wine. First food order came about 30 minutes after the wine, and then another 10 for the rest. then the wonderful tacos we ordered individually came out on two big a la carte platters as the restaurant seems to think is cool for building community, but the waiter couldn't tell us what they were or who they belonged to. Too bad, the food was good but never going back. Imagine if it had been full!
Love this place for the wonderful and imaginative food and huge variety of craft beer on tap. The place gets overwhelmingly busy at night and the service suffers. Oddly enough, when they are busy, sitting at the bar does not result in better service. Keeping up with the table orders seems to be priority #1 for the bartenders.
Hot's Kitchen has delicious food, tasty brews, and good service (this time due to Lynsey). A bit on the loud side, but that to be expected with the typical sloppy people that frequent MB/HB (drunk parents letting their screaming child run around the restaurant).
Flies. Flies. Flies. Restaurant is open air which is normally nice, but the flies have found this place and they aren't leaving! It was just too many of them, on everything including my kids' plates, and we couldn't swat them all away from our food and still actually eat our food. Grossed me out and irritating. Fix that and I'll go back.
Casual place with a nice bar scene option and big screens to watch the current sports. The food was outstanding, as well as the service. Tons of beer options and some signature drinks. The menu has some unique eats in tasty style portions to try as many as you can squeeze in, it's tempting to try more than you can eat, best to share. The Truffle fries were so good it sets the bar really high for the rest, but all the food came out fairly quick and with big smiles all round when we had it. They take reservations, so it's a good idea to set one if you can, beach restaurants fill fast.
Menu is creative and the food is high quality. Like all restaurants, some hits, some misses, but the hits are more numerous and the misses not a result of poor effort or ingredient. Stick with the tacos and the starters, the burgers are generally average at best, and neither a slider nor a real burger. Wings also not recommended unless you enjoy grilled chicken wings, and not the traditional variety.
The menu features French fries topped with grated cheese and a truffle aoili dipping sauce, a variety of unctuous foie gras dishes, extensive beer/wine choices, and several varieties of tasty tacos. There are three flavors of chicken wings, but they're only served grilled. The skin never gets crispy unless you fry them, and afficionados of chicken wings probably aren't worried about the calorie content, folks. We visited on a Weds night, and everyone was crammed into the bar area shouting over the music. No serious complaints, mind you, but probably won't be back.
What a find! A bar that serves foie gras several ways, plus awesome wings, tacos and fries! Loved the beer flights and Sunday wine tasting, too. Everything was great, our server was exceptionally nice, and service was very punctual. Only negative is that it's a bit dark inside.
Everything we had seen posted negative or complaint-wise for Hot's, did not happen to us. We arrived early, found a parking space right in front, and the hostess was gracious and we were seated immediately, in a quieter area than the bar, as we requested. Our server brought drinks and Hot's specials and regular menus over right away. She came back 5 minutes later, took our drink orders and appetizer order. Both were delivered to us quickly. The appetizer was huge, and we barely made a dent in it. We also ordered two foie gras, the chef's cheese board, and two tacos. We were stuffed, and loved every bite of everything. It was a really nice first visit, and we will be back, with friends.
One thing to note are the small portion sizes which if you're really hungry can run up the bill. The burgers are slider size and the tacos are street taco size so depending on how hungry you are you may be ordering 2 or 3 items. But the offerings are unique and very flavorful and the place has a nice vibe.
I can't believe it took us this long to find this place. Great service from the front desk and wait staff, especially Tony our waiter. The restaurant is completely open along the front with high ceilings and a casual, beach vibe. Great selection of beers and nice wine choices. Interesting & fun menu. The street-style tacos are amazing; somehow the tortilla never gets soggy & they are piled high with yummy stuff. We enjoyed the Korean BBQ, Cubano, Original Pork, Crispy Shrimp, and Crispy Fish. It's a great place to bring the family or to hang and watch the game. We'll definitely be back!
The tacos are hit/miss but well presented. Service is very friendly and relaxed, and the draft selection is extensive. The execution of the beet salad was poor: beets were flavorless, vinaigrette was bland, and the greens selected were overpowering--one of the micro greens was used as a garnish in another dish and was better suited there. The menu concept is promising, but perhaps should be narrowed to focus on dishes that have been developed and polished.
