Not what we expected. Buffet style and the food was okay.
I would recommend this place to anyone. We wanted a special Easter brunch and decided we don't mind paying the $65 + over 20 % gratuity if its good food and good service. We were very didsapointed with every thing. For the 6 of us the was $500 a little steap for dry fish, cold and undercooked beef and lamb. We constantly had to search for someone to find for a glass of water . We could have had a wider selection of meats and dessert and a little better quality for the price. The ambiance was not that great either. I will never go back there again it's totally a rip off.
We have enjoyed the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Hotel Boulderado. This time, we went for Easter Brunch and will not return next year. Upon arrival they seated us (4 adults and 2 tiny children ) at a table for 12. It felt super awkward so we asked to be seated at a smaller table to we could actually talk to each other. The hostess seemed annoyed at the request, but seated us at smaller, more comfortable table for 6. The hotel is charming and lovely, but the event room where we were seated feels like a cheap wedding reception. Although the servers in the buffet area were very nice and helpful, the table service was mediocre. We waited at least 20 minutes for champagne/beer refills, and had to wait even longer for dirty dishes to be cleared. The food was very good, but not necessarily $65 per plate plus an automatic 22% gratuity good. I would suggest changing your policy on charging $25 for a 4 year old child who eats a piece of waffle and some fruit; it quite literally leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. For that reason alone, we will not return.
Easter Sunday brunch was terrific. Great food (both quality and selection).
Room full of families with little girls in their Easter finery (AND HATS!).
Little boys in unaccustomed collared shirts & jackets.
Noise level was, given the ages involved, up there.
Recommend most highly. We have had Thanksgiving there, and other
holiday/special occasions.
It was yummy. Overall, a great time. Food mostly. I enjoyed driving ten minutes to brunch! Gorgeous venue. A fun time for us.
Easter Burch was great. Delicious food. Done right.
We were at the hotel for Easter Brunch and it was fabulous. The Brown Palace could not compete! The service was excellent and the ambiance very pleasant with friendly servers at the food tables. Would go back any time for that ommellete!!
The Xmas event was over crowded. Food was cold, buffet menu stated shrimp and crab would be available and none where present. Not enough coffee cups. Only one dessert remained. Not enough staff. Added 20% tip when we only saw server to order drinks. Dinner for 4 was $470! underwhelming on all levels.
The Christmas Buffet is always spectacular. My only complaint would be the desserts. Not enough variety. The Main Buffet more than makes up for that. Sitting around the big Christmas tree really tops things off.
We went for the Christmas buffet, which we have done every year since 2007. The vegetables and prime rib were great, but the salmon was dry. The server had to be asked to remove our plates. The music was inappropriate for a lovely meal. The dessert table was poorly executed this year...it was in a cramped space and the did not keep it stocked. This will be the end of our tradition.
My family loves the holiday events at the Boulerado. We attend every year. The food is delicious and there are options for all diets. The service is outstanding and the overall experience is very pleasant. Thank you Boulerado for making our holiday special.
We've been to the Boulderado for a number of Special Event meals. This was by far the most limited in food choices, and service. Fort $69 per person, plus 20% gratuity already added, we had to get our own coffee/tea, and the plates were not cleared automatically for us when we were finished.
The dessert selection was horrible - very limited choices and none of them were very tasty. I'd love to know what happened to the kind of assortment of food and dessert that was there in the past.
We felt taken advantage of and will not return to another Special Event.
I like to go to Christmas tea every year! This year, however, we arrived at 1:00 and the host seated us at a dreadful table near the bathroom :( I asked to be moved as it was NOT that busy and he hemmed and hawed and finally moved us. TWO other parties were seated for the rest of the tea. He had made us feel like we were stealing someone else' s table by not wanting the worst table in the place . Very lame! Not only were only two other tables seated, the tables around us were never cleared. Kind of gross. Lastly, the sandwiches are yummy as well as the chocolate dipped strawberries, but I'd bet a whole lot of money that the cookies are from Pepperidge Farm-shortbread with the chocolate dot, checkerboard and chocolate dipped butter, etc.Come on Boulderado for $38??!
My friends and I had a special afternoon tea again this year. We are making this our annual tradition at the Boulderado because of the beautiful setting, good service and excellent tea time fare.
Love this hotel. I’ve had many wonderful times there over the past twenty years. I’m glad to see it progressing with the times while keeping the original look and feel of a historic hotel!
We have gone to High Tea here for 20 years. It is always a delight.
I went to the Christmas tea with my 16 year old granddaughter. It had The Nutcracker cast in full garb which was nice, and I expected we would hear singing and see some light dancing. The characters walked about the tea and chatted with tables repeatedly, making it difficult for me to even hold a conversation with my granddaughter, whom I do not see very often. It became, in a word, "annoying". There was an additional $10 fee per ticket for this, and my server added an "automatic" gratuity of 20%... and included the $20 Nutcracker fee, so she tipped on $80 as opposed to $60. Our food tray came before our tea, and another employee went to see what happened to our tea order. The food was "so-so" unremarkable. All, told, my bill was over $100 for 2 for tea. NO, I will not do this again. It was overpriced, and I put in a call to be reimbursed for the "over" tipping. When asked why they add the gratuity "automatically" I was told, "We just always do that". When asked if the gratuity was indeed a tip for the server, I was told, "Yes, it helps to pay for the server." Not really what I asked. I suspect our server did not get the full 20%. I also noticed other trays at tables that were laden with fresh fruit, which was not on our tray; perhaps it was a special request. I would have done that in lieu of some of the store-bought baked items on our tray. All in all, disappointing. St. Julien much nicer.
My daughter and I loved our first tea. However, I was given the children's tea plate and paid for an adult tea. (It was the server's first tea service, and she brought me a couple hummus tea sandwiches to go.). Also, I asked for $10 change and never received it. Nonetheless, I would recommend the tea with a more seasoned server. My daughter loved it!
I've been to the Boulderado several times in the past and have always loved it but this visit was a disaster. They are charging 20% on top of regular tea prices for a "sales department booking fee", which is INSANE. Not a penny of that went to our server, so we ended up having to tip him 20% as well (he did nothing wrong!). That added 40% on to the $36 charge for the tea itself. Super disappointed in this unexpected high charge - we should have been told about this from the start. No idea why they thought us booking our reservation on open table should cost 20%!
Other complaints: our table was missing plates to eat from & plates to put our tea steepers on. Also, most of the desserts were not homemade. ALSO, I requested a pescatarian option and was not served the smoked salmon that my friends were. Super disappointing - will not be back. :(
My daughter and I were at the hotel for the holiday tea. We have come several times over the past years and enjoy it each and every time. The hotel is beautiful and decorated so nicely for the holidays. It's a wonderful start to the holiday season for my daughter and I.
We came for the holiday tea. Our table was partially behind a post, so one of our guests could not see the decor or the tree. Not enough scones or sandwiches and too many desserts, some of the cookies seemed out of a box. No clotted cream or lemon curd for the scones. Not a good value for the price at all. Crusty humus on dry bread is not a teasandwich. I have been to many teas, and this was one of the worst. I was surprised because the food at murder mysteries with dinner at the Boulderado has been excellent. Very disappointed in this tea.
the hike in price was alarming. the food was great as usual for these holiday meals.
Went for Thanksgiving Buffet. Even though there was a pop up flash mob Animal Rights Protest, (that's SO Boulder), the Management handled it very well and didn't skip a beat. loved the Crab claws appetizer. Beautiful hotel.
Service was extremely slow, tables were crammed in so tightly that getting to the buffet at all was an unwelcome adventure, and Turkey protesters (which happens every year) were allowed 10 minutes of screaming at us, which is very upsetting to children. You’d think after a few years of this they’d be better prepared.
Although the food was good, it was incredibly overpriced. Furthermore, I did not approve of the restaurant adding a 20% service charge for a buffet. We didn't order alcohol, and there were only two of us.
I don't like the non traditional Thanksgiving dishes. Let's keep the water chestnuts out of the stuffing. Let's keep the pomegranate out of the cranberries. Finally, I felt pressured to leave a tip after an already large "service charge" of 20% (about 35 for three people).
Everything we great. Food and service was wonderful.
Must do - Beautiful venue and lovely Mother's Day Brunch!
the food was excellent and the service was fantastic by everyone from the valet car staff to the waiters and bus people.
Very nice. Infortunately our reservation was too early to enjoy such a lavish spread but it was too late to change on Sat.
Took my family for Easter Brunch. Food was good, nice selection though they had already ran out of several items. Service was fair, could have been more attentive. Dining was set up on folding tables in a conference room, less than elegant.
We are a little disappointed with food, the overall atmosphere, and organization of the event. We came for 1:15 Easter Brunch with my family and a little grandson. He was asking to see Easter Bunny and I was shocked to learn from our waiter that he cannot locate one! After me insisting on one to come, somebody showed up without Easter basket and a little treats for the children. In 5 minutes he was gone. Last year at the same event we were offered a glass of champagne or prosecco, but not this year. The food was not very tasty, cold or barely warm and small quantities. The meal was not worse the price. We will probably go somewhere else next year.
Did not enjoy at all. They lost our reservation and the brunch was horrible.
We attended the Boulderado's Easter Brunch. The buffet food was completely unremarkable. The waffles were barely warm and notably not fresh. The pastries were dull and dry, and nothing else was anything I would have paid for at a normal restaurant. The omelets were the only dish that we all agreed was edible. The waiters didn't seem to know what to do (so many of them were standing around- always in the way!). The room for the event looked like a cheap, overly-crowded wedding reception. The $55 per person price tag didn't include any specialty coffees or alcohol. We paid over $300 for 4 people (only two champagnes were included in that bill) and the experience wasn't worth half of that. The only enjoyable factor was that my two-year old liked the props for the selfie booth. But then they tried to charge us $25 for her meal (kids under 4 were supposed to eat free)... Absolutely would never recommend this. Plus their marketing sign at the entrance of the brunch had the wrong price on it!
Great as usual..was there for Thanksgiving also.. Christmas dinner: we would like some of the traditional items like turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie...but we'll back next year.
Have been to the Hotel Boulderado for the Christmas Buffet several times. Awesome food and the Atmosphere just enhances the Holiday Season.
Highly recommend it.
Beautiful Victorian Hotel. Gorgeous Christmas tree and decorations. Excellent valet and elevator service. Great food and wait staff for the Christmas buffet. Will return for special events or at other times.
Beautifully decorated and great service. Not enough sandwiches for all of us and when I asked for me they couldn't accommodate. That was a disappointment especially since some of us can't eat sweets.
We have attended the Boulderado Holiday Tea for many years and for the last ten years straight. By far the best selection of teas and food. Our waiter was absolutely great. The entire staff was most gracious, kind and attentive to my two very young granddaughters. Thank you to the Boulderado and especially the caterer and his/her staff.
Our overall experience was excellent. However, I expected a few more tea sandwiches for the price.
