Hot Woks Cool Sushi - Roscoe Village Ratings and Reviews
We were looking for a quiet table away from kids so we decided to sit outside. It was a little chilly but the noise level was just right. Our server was less than impressive. We felt like everything took awhile and at times she was confused. The food was really good. I enjoyed my make rolls more than my friend enjoyed hers though. I ordered two signature rolls that I would recommend (fukadome & Mt Fuji). The part I was most impressed with was the service we received after we left. The delivery driver found my friend's debit card outside the restaurant & the owner tracked down my number and called me to make us aware. We were sooo thankful & excited they went the extra mile for us. Parking was easy and it's a local play I will eat at again.
We've been so many times that we get greeted by our first names, and we keep going back because it's such good food but with friendly service to match. They've also introduced specials which have fast become a favorite - the XOXO beef is so tasty. Always pristine, everything is cooked fresh and you never get the feeling they're too busy.
Food was awesome - our table had people ordering both rolls and entrees, and everything was delicious. Restaurant was eerily quiet and slow for a nice Saturday night. Service was super friendly and nice but a little slow. Overall a good experience, just wondering why the place wasnt busier.
Caveat-it was valentines day, but a restaurant should prepare. Table wasn't ready per reservation. Didn't want to sit next to the door, so we sat at the counter. Manager (maybe) saw our disdain and told us he would set a new table as someone was just leaving. That took 15 minutes. We sat there for 10 more before someone asked us if we wanted a drink. We ordered everything at once seeing how things were going. 25 minutes later my Panang came, semi warm, and it was almost cold 10 minutes later when my partners sushi arrived. Sushi wasn't great. Saw waitress twice the whole evening and someone else had to get our check for us. Never got the advertised valentines fortune cookie, or any for that matter. Focus clearly was on take out, not us.
Not my first time and won't be my last - always a great place for good quality, tasty food and drinks. We went early on Friday at 5pm before the rush, greeted by name, seated straight away, and excellent service. This is now a staple on our going-out list for a no fuss, no risk, guaranteed quality meal and enjoyable date.
My family and I eat here at least once a month. It's my go to place for lunch because I know it will always be delicious!! They have the best Panang Curry in Chicago! Their sushi is also delicious, and very fresh. My favorite is the Harajuku roll, it tastes amazing!!! I'm so glad I found this place.
The food is good and I felt they had a decent beer list. The service was great. One thing I didn't like was the place was kind of small and I felt like the tables were too close to one another. I know they have outdoor seating in the summer so I would like that better when there is an option.
Felt more "fast casual" than fine dining, which was fine for a casual sushi dinner. I enjoyed the sushi (the Obamanami roll is great) but my date was not a fan of the sake. Sushi came out quickly but the service was slow overall. I'd probably go again if I was craving sushi in that neighborhood, but I wouldn't go for a special occasion.
I was once again pleased with Hot Woks Cool Sushi. I have now had both sushi and hot items. The Beef satay was different than I have ever had and it was delicious. I enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant. The wine list is decent as well. No complaints from me.
Consistently good food, and great friendly staff - I was welcomed by name as they remember I use OpenTable to make my bookings! Also they allowed us to order the HotWoks noodles that is no longer on the menu, but is available on the takeaway menu and is a great dish. They give us reasons to keep coming back, and we do because we'd miss it if it were gone!
I ordered take out from their location at Pulaski/Kennedy for a long time then discovered they opened a new spot in Roscoe Village and happened upon it while in the neighborhood. Good rolls and good service, affordable with a good selection to cover just about anyones palate!
Everything was good but our waitress simply assumed that we didn't want to order anything more after our one glass of wine each, the one roll and apps. We might have ordered another glass of wine or another roll. Very strange and she missed out on a bigger check.
I wanted to like this place-good location and reasonable prices. Although more reflective of bad (or indifferent) parenting than of the establishment itself, the (loud and mobile) children who, when they did sit, amused themselves by hanging on the suspended wall panels causing them to sway throughout our dinner proved both distracting and potentially dangerous. It would have been nice if someone--perhaps an owner/manager concerned for his guests--had suggested to the parents that perhaps their little darlings might act as if they were in a public space and not at home, and that pulling down the walls was both a no-no and a lawsuit waiting to happen. No pun intended this experience left a bad taste. Meh. I will not be back.
A neighborhood place that is clean, efficient and friendly with great Asian food from the hot wok (we don't even eat cool sushi and still dine here). We've been back twice in as many weeks for the crab rangoon and the Hot Woks noodles - the sauce has the right amount of sweet taste and spicy kick, plus everything seems so fresh. We've been once on a weekend where there was a 10 minute wait for walk-ins, and midweek where we were one of a handful of tables still going 30 minutes from closing, and it was half price bottled beers (Asahi, Tsing Tao, Sapporo etc.). It's definitely been added to our list of staples.
Hot Woks Cool Sushi was such a relief, considering we booked late on New Year's Eve. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. One of my favorite bottles of wine was on the wine list, and by the time we'd polished it off, our server brought us free champagne. All in all, it was a nice experience.
