Hot Tomato's - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I can't believe you made a reservation for me at Hot Tomato's, when the restuarant had closed 2 days earlier. We drove down there and were told by someone in one of the parking lots. Open Table should be up on which restaurants are opened. This was quite an inconvenience.
Hot Tomatoes is one of my favorites. The food is always the best and the service is great. I make a reservation for 5 to invite my team and celebrate a very successful year. We all arrived at 6PM to find out that the restaurant was closed as they were moving out.
I would love to give Hot Tomato's a review - but I never got to eat there! We made a pre-theater reservation for 5:30PM on 1/18, arrived at the restaurant on time, & found it dark & closed up! No notice from OpenTable - why is that? Fortunately, we walked about a block or so (in the pouring rain) & found Black Eyed Sally's open, warm & welcoming, & had a great dinner there. Three days later, we found out that the restaurant is now permanently closed. Thanks for nothing, OpenTable.
We went to Hot Tomatoes after going to a Christmas concert at the XL Center. This has become a tradition of ours for many years. The restaurant was busy on this particular evening and the person who greeted us upon arrival was also our server. The staff is always pleasant, friendly and very accommodating. The atmosphere is lovely. Our waitress was wonderful, delightful and funny. The menu offers something for everyone and the food is outstanding!!! I can't begin to describe how awesome the garlic cheese bread is!!! After another enjoyable evening at Hot Tomatoes, we promised ourselves that we will return more often and bring along some friends and neighbors who love good Italian food. Thanks Hot Tomatoes! You never disappoint us.
The food is excellent, however, food service was absolutely terrible. The Sunday afternoon was not too busy. Everything seemed fine when the app came pretty quickly. Dinner arrived more than an hour after the server put the order in. I try not to get cranky or take it out on the server, but he knew the kitchen was in the weeds and was very apologetic. Dinner, which was simple pasta, should have arrived in under 20 minutes. It was excellent with the exception that one of the party's pick-a-pasta was missing one of the add ons.
Will chalk this up to a very bad night.
We had a lovely meal, as usual. The service is good, and the food was served in good quantity and well prepared. The only downside of this visit was that we were seated in front, and it was loud, and quite cold. Still, we use Hot Tomatos as our go to place when we attend concerts and events in downtown Hartford.
we were onthe upper level and our waitress had 8 tables so needless to say we had to call her over most of the time as she was overwhelmed. The meal was rushed as our dinner came out before we finished our appetizers, Dessert was longer than the appetizers and meal took. But the food was good and we made it to the show - albeit much earlier than we had planned.
Food was good for an out of town find and were able to get a reservation and were propmtly seated as soon as we walked in the door even though we were several minutes early with regards to our reservation time. Server was knowledgable and service was prompt. Outdoor patio seating had DJ playing music which could be heard a few blocks away but we sat inside. Once inside, noise level was typical for a restraunt.
We went to Hot Tomato's for an anniversary dinner. The food was good and arrived hot to our table. The garlic bread is delicious! Our server Lynn was very accommodating. I ordered the Strawberry Martini and it is now one of my favorite drinks!! Our only complaint...we didn't have room for dessert.
Crowd was very small for a Sarturday night. Food was OK, nothing that stood out. Drinks were also not special. Due to the high cost, I,would not recommend it. Staff was nice, so no problem there. It is downtown in Hartford, but going on the weekend and still have to pay $10.00 to park across the street, no comp stickers. I remember it being very good years ago.
Had a wonderful dinner at Hot Tomato as part of Taste of Hartford. The food was delicious, the value excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly, and thoughtful of our desire for a quiet date night dinner. Looking forward to going again and even paying full price!
Hot Tomato's was not at all what I expected. When passing by, there's nice outdoor seating area that gives off the impression of a fun, outdoor dining experience for food and drinks that would be good for both small and large parties. We ended up sitting inside and were first seated at a table where we found dead flies and bugs on the table and on the windowsill, as well as a handful of live flies flying around. The table was sticky as well, so it was a bad start. If it wasn't for a gift certificate I had, and my intentions to give Hot Tomato's a chance, we would have left immediately. Our waitress was energetic and helpful, but she wasn't able to mask the poor food and dirty restaurant. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer (which was recommended to us) and a tomato & mozzarella salad with grilled chicken. First of all, there wasn't enough tomato sauce to cover how dry the meatball was. Second, the 'mixed greens' our salad came with was thinly chopped iceberg lettuce comparable to what's used on Taco Bell tacos. Both the tomato's and mozzarella were not fresh and the 'grilled chicken' was the worst. It was noticeably old (must have been leftovers) and reheated in the microwave.. not grilled by any means. The salad dressing, which was supposed to be balsamic vinaigrette, was thick balsamic glaze. Overall, both the food and restaurant were disgusting. Gift certificate or not, there's no chance I will be going back there.
We were dining on Thursday night with another couple. The waitress was unaware of any of the wines. Appetizers were brought incorrectly. We had to ask for bread twice before receiving. The meals arrived and no one was overjoyed. Two ordered the pork chop dish but they both commented they were ok at best. I ordered a tortellini dish that was very bland. My friends wife ordered a simple rigatoni in marinara sauce. It arrived cold and barely cooked. The sauce was awful so the waitress suggested a vodka sauce so our friend said she would try but please warm the pasta. She indicated that they did not have a microwave. The waitress still brought the vodka sauce and our friend took one bite and refused to eat it. They credited our bill for her meal and we left. Unfortunate. It used to be a superb restaurant. We will not return.
We went to Hot Tomato's prior to a show in town. No wait: it was a Sunday at noon. The food was fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrid. My spaghetti squash/veggie dish was advertised with pesto and a bit of red sauce. There was a hint of pesto and that's it. The veggies were not tossed in the pesto-the pesto was 'dotted' here and there on the veggies. Not really my fav. My friend's choco chip pancakes were HUGE, and she enjoyed them. Calamari was good--a good-sized portion, but the underlayer was soggy by the time the first crisp layer was eater. I agree with others that the garlic bread was a good find.
New waiter lacked guidance from senior staff. Lobster mac and cheese had virtually no lobster in it. Hot Tomatoes just isn't that good or special anymore. Even the signature garlic bread wasn't good, hardly any cheese on it. This was a second visit for us and we will not be back.
Love the open kitchen view. Watching the interactions of the staff was some of the fun. Our server made us feel very relaxed and was good humored. And as always the food and wine were spot on. I haven't been to Hot Tomato's in some time so it was great to see it's still a great place to dine.
