Hot House Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
There are so many delicious items to choose from. The meals are beautifully seasoned with excellent pairings of ingredients. The ambience is always fun but it is quiet enough for easy conversation. I really appreciate the price point. A stellar meal without exorbitant cost. I return all the time although I live in Markham. Too bad your sister restaurant is on The
Danforth instead of in my area.
Nothing was overly outstanding about the whole experience. Reasonable prices, food was fine (nothing to write home about, but no real complaints either, I could eat it again), but our server needs to improve.
He brought out a pate appetizer dish with no bread or toast to go with it. We waited to see if he was coming back with the rest of the dish. When it was clear that it wasn't happening, we had to flag someone else to get him so we could ask if we were really meant to eat pate and mustard alone. He mumbled something vague and quickly came back with a two slices of crostini. After the meal, he gave us the bill without being asked. If it was a lunch, I'd appreciate it because speedy service is a godsend when you only have 1h for lunch. But this was dinner. Are they trying to kick us out? The place was half empty and it was only 8:00pm.
Overall, not a bad experience but not the greatest either.
I had lunch with a friend. We loved the Winterlicious menu. I had the ribs and soup and my friend ordered the chicken parm and salad. All were very good. The hostess greeted us warmly and made us feel special. She even held the door as we left the restaurant. Highly recommend.
My friends and I go to Hot House often because it is one of, if not the only, restaurants near union station (convenient location for us) that can accommodate larger groups, is quiet enough for conversation, has a menu with lots of options, reasonable prices and tasty food. We love hot house!
It was very easy to set up the reservation via Open Table. We were a group of four and we were seated at a table near a window. The server was very friendly and patient. He offered many daily specials and recommendations. I’ve been to this restaurant numerous times and I always enjoy taking my friends here to eat. I will definitely come back!
My wife and I both ordered Pizza Di Parma as our main course. The pizza was very tasteless, probably due to a complete lack of taste, or appearance, of tomato sauce. We had to check the menu to ensure it was an ingredient. Crust was good, could have used a touch more cheese and the ham was good. Overpriced for the product received.
A friend and I met for lunch. She had never been to Hot House Cafe before. We were about to order an entree until we asked about the soup for the day. We had the most delicious cream of brussel sprout soup. It was hot, creamy, flavourful and filling and fabulous. So filling we decided to share a sandwich instead of the entree.
My friend and I decided to make our lunch a regular thing at the Hot House Cafe. I've been to this restaurant many times for various lunches, three times for Thanksgiving dinner and numurous other meals. It is very much my "go-to" place for good food!
First time at Hot House and it won't be our last. So many delicious choices that we are looking forward to our return. I had the ribs and my wife had shrimp and a salad. Arturo was our server and he was brilliant. Only next time was the hostess who lacked a warm welcome.
Sunday Brunch, & Jazz... wonderful food options, from breads, an omelette station, ( breakfast
choices, including bacon, sausages), healthy salads, hot entrees, such as lasagne, roast beef, etc., - all 3 meals & desserts at one time !!!
Did not have anything more that day, other than water, coffee, tea !
A few girlfriends went to the theatre and this was a nice walk from Ed Mirvish on a lovely summers day. The food is always good and the menu has great variety for all tastes. We all had Sangrias and they were delish! Two of had the rack of ribs and they were excellent. I have never been here for the regular menu before as I have always come for the brunch and I was very pleased. We all enjoyed our exprerience.
Our waiter, Arturo, was wonderful, managing to strike the exact balance of friendly, efficient and professional. He had a good understanding of the menu and was able to describe items perfectly. The food was very good but the restaurant is a bit noisy at times. We'll definitely be back.
Wanted to take my parents somewhere nice as they came down to the city to visit. It took 20 min to get our drink order (to be fair there were 2 weddings going on, the restaurant should have planned) and then it took another 10 min to get the drinks.
We gave ourselves an hour and a half (as we had a concert to make) and didn't have our meal order taken after 45 min. We had the menus closed and just felt very unattended.
Note to the restaurant is give your servers smaller sections or support. The food was good but service definitely lacked.
I've been to the Sunday Brunch at Hothouse several times, and loved it. We thought we'd try the restaurant for dinner, and were sorely disappointed.
The server seemed new and didn't have knowledge of the prix fixe nor the kids menu. My husbands entrée didn't come with the rest of the entrees, and we had to wait for a good 15-20mins to flag down the waitress - then she apologized because she'd forgotten all about his entrée! The kids menu came with a drink, and again we had to remind her about the fact and ask her to bring it. Both my husband and I got the prix fixe, and it wasn't worth the price we paid for it - the food was just average.
While we will return for their famous Sunday brunches, we will pass on regular meals at this spot.
Too much confusion seating patrons.
I had reserved a table for 3. One of my guests showed up before me and my accompanying guest. She was seated inside. We went in provided the name on the reservation and asked to be seated outside. We were never told that one of our party had arrived and were told to speak with the person outside assigning seats. We wanted to sit on the west side of the restaurant and told we could only sit on the south "to balance out the tables for the servers". I had to text my guest who was already seated inside so she could join us. Very unorganized.
The food and service were good despite this mayhem on our arrival.
Brownie dessert is to die for!
