The grilled salmon served with chive mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables was very nice. A companion had the barramundi fish which was also good.
Nice service from our waitperson.
Great food and wonderful service. Good place to go before the theatre.
Great experience--would happily return. Server was quite accommodating for our large group of 14, and had us out with enough time to get to the event we were attending in time.
Always a favourite - gotta luv that ol' Maison Chaud!!
Half the restaurant has wood floors -- so the sound echos and can be loud. The carpet area is much quieter.. you can pick your noise level. Went for the dinner buffet on Wed night -- excellent value at $18.95 and half price for kids under 10. Huge choice: pasta bar, huge dessert bar, roast beef, pizza, pasta, cheese, salmon, chicken, pad thai.. great selection indeed. Great for large parties too. Huge outdoor patio area.
When we looked at the website before we went the food options were a lot more vast than when we got there. The server seemed to have a bit of an attitude and rushed us to pay even though the place was empty. The food tasted good though!!
We arrived and were told they stopped serving the summerlicious lunch menu a day early and that despite having a reservation we would have to order off the dinner menu or the regular menu. We ordered off the regular menu. They never followed up on the name of the reservation or how it was made, leading to a no-show inquiry.
The Capricco bread was fantastic. It was everything I always wanted from bruschetta. The calamari was decent, cooked well, but considering we ordered the Cajun flavor, a little bland. The hot sauce it came with tasted exactly like watered down Franks.
The Capicollo pizza was very nice, thin crust and well done without being burnt. Great flavor. Service was average, but the patio was great, wonderful people watching!
My daughter and I enjoyed the food for summerlicious. The food was great. In terms of service, since we came on a Saturday at lunch time, it was so busy, so our waitress was not able to attend to our table promptly for what we needed.
I love the Hot House, one of my favourite places to go and so convenient for me.
Considering most people eating lunch there are on work lunches their lunch service could be a bit quicker
Lunch was very good. As is my custom, I had the soup (potato leek) and Louisiana crab cakes for lunch, followed by the Tiramisu for dessert -- a cup of mint tea on the side.My companions had a pizza and soup and salad respectively, but they passed on dessert. Both felt their lunch was excellent. The reservation system worked very well and the service was excellent. All in all, a nice lunch.
My girlfriend and I intended to eat here for Summerlicious. Our server, Shaun, was very courteous, gave us the Summerlicious menu, and also told us about the Wednesday 5pm-9pm buffet. We ordered drinks (Raspberry mojito for me, Fresh Margarita for her), took a look at the great dinner and desert buffet, and opted for that.
- Mojito was just right, Margarita was a little too salty. We swapped drinks.
- Salad choices are excellent (caesar, shrimp, cold salmon, couscous etc...)
- EXCELLENT pasta bar (sundried tomatoes a little too salty), nice beef bar, and a nice mix of other pasta, rice, veggie and meat dishes (Italian). Very fresh bread.
- Lots of choices in cake! All delicious.
We'll probably be back here soon. Great spot overall!
I went for Summerlicious and loved it! Great options for their set menu! The only thing i have to say is, I asked my steak to be medium rare and got medium well. That is a common miscommunication because when they hear medium rare, i always get medium well instead. Other then that my meal was great.
Very good food. A little noisy. EXCELLENT Service.
I went with a group of 5 for the Summerlicious pre-fixe menu and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and we were SO full! The desserts were incredible as well as the amazing grilled cheese.
The patio is beautiful but we sat inside since it was a really hot day and the inside was lovely - nice atmostphere, very clean and nice ambiance without being over the top. I would definitely go there again!
We had a large group and the service was very attentive. Food was great, nothing to complain and nothing out of the ordinary. We had a table by the windows and it was nice to see people-gaze without sitting under extreme heat in the patio. Overall very pleased with HotHouse.
Enjoy inside but especially like the patio.
I came twice during Summerlicious and I was a little disappointed that both times I had to ask for the Summerlicious menu. I enjoy the regular menu and especially the salads but I felt like they were not promoting it as I would like to try different items for a change. I will continue to go every couple of weeks for the Sundried chicken pesto salad. Thank you.
I've recently gone to Hot House for the first time with coworkers for lunch to try our their Summerlicious menu. The servers were very friendly and happy to answer any questions. The interior was large and spacious with appropriate lighting to keep the ambiance relaxed. Food came relatively quick and server was happy to bring the bills over a little early so we could make it back to work on time. I ordered the supreme grilled cheese and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing yam frites that came with. The crab cakes were also noteworthy.
Also noted some patio seating outside, might want to be seated outside next time when it's not as warm.
Good food. Served hot. Really enjoyed my time. Service was a LITTLE slow, but overall experience was great!
This was a last minute lunch plan and I'm glad I found this place. Summerlicious was how I found the restaurant and the menu was incredible. I'm excited to go back to try their regular menu.
My group went for summerlicious and it was a pleasant experience with most of our dishes being very tasty with the exception of the steak which was left behind, but the salmon entree was delish!
Mike, the manager, was THE gem of Hot House. He went above and beyond our expectations from making sure we always had a drink in hand to bringing us an extra umbrella when our spot became too sunny. We will be back, and not just for happy hour!
Superb as before! It never fails to impress me with their food selection, now with their summerlicious menu. Very affordable and worth every bite.
Good restaurant for anything. Good food, good service, and prices are reasonable. parking is the worst part.
Everything from service to the Wednesday nite buffet was great..
Our server James was very attentive and we were able to sit outside in the lounge chair section right near the street traffice. Perfect!
Fresh market delicious well balanced menu and solid service.
Bonus at Hot House to have seafood and fish on menus as many others move to meat mainly pork theme in the city . .. variety on menu is excellent .
Perfect for a working lunch meeting .
Celebrated a retirement dinner and Lance did a great job accommodating the large group of us- including 4 kids. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Was very impressed with host and manager on the way out who helped my grandma with her walker.
Service was okay, but the patio location and interesting beer choices are what made this place for me. Perfect for lounging on the patio at a vibrant and pretty corner in Toronto. lots of good peope watching to be done. One of the few restaurants I've been to that stocks my favourite beers (from Unibroue). The sweet potato fries here are outstanding!
Hot House has been around for a while but still seems a reasonable value.
Fresh squeezed juices is a good idea, but "Tropical" flavour was too many flavours blended together.
Went here pre-theatre for a casual and inexpensive meal. While the place is casual, the food is not inexpensive. My comment is if you are going to offer some higher end meals, make them worth the money. Three of us had their ahi-tuna special, which I recall was $29. Sounded great, pretty tasteless, not the best cut of tuna and not cooked to the rare it should be. Having said all this, bread was delicious, and service was very good but think will stick with their brunches, which are great or keep it simple with a pizza and salad next time.
We found the staff attentive and courteous......have been patrons for a while and will certainly come again........we were a little disappointed there was no buffet this time....we love that the most!
We visit Toronto every couple of years and love a few days downtown on our own. Following a great lunch a year and a half ago, we returned for dinner this visit. Most were sitting outside on a large patio with tables, chairs, sofas, etc. We prefer to eat inside and look out. My prosciutto pizza with arugula, fresh mozzarella and tomato had a perfect crust; extra virgin olive oil on top - perfect! We ordered a half-liter of chianti, as my husband was trying the wild boar ragu over fresh tagliatelle. Wish I didn't live so far away - I'd be there very regularly! Service was perfect i.e. always there when you needed, otherwise, never intrusive. Lovely decor and possibility for private conversation with your table mate(s).
As usual, the food was ample and excellent - and that self-same reliability maintains our loyalty to the Hot House Café. As for service, there was a minor glitch (possibly reflecting the intake of new, inexperienced staff to meet the patio season's demands). Remarkable, though, was the speed and aplomb with which the "regular" staff were able to recover from the glitch and provide us with an enjoyable dining experience. Thus, we will certainly continue patronising the Hot House.
great food; great service; consistent every time we've been here
Service was attentive without being intrusive, selection and quality was v. good and I felt that there was excellent value.
I come to the Hot House every couple of weeks for lunch and love the salads and the patio in the summer. I have brought groups there for functions and have had postive feedback on the food and the semi-private areas available for groups.
The servers were very friendly but we had specifically noted in our opentable reservation that one guest was gluten intolerant. Unfortunately, they were out of their gluten free pizza dough...somewhat disappointing.
Each we visited Toronto we eat here because the priice and thé service are very good
Merci from Montréal
The steak was literally RARE. I did not even get close to it. I saw a gentleman ask for a more well done piece. All the server said was "it's all rare" (DUH! anyone can see THAT, its Beet RED) "that's all we have". Server didn't even apologize or offer to talk to the chief. We went on a Sunday and didn't realize the all-you-can eat buffet closed so early, kinda disappointed. Our server was great! she collected our plates fast & gave us privacy.
