After arriving prior to our reservation time we waited 30 min for our table. The food was well-prepared and fairly priced but the noise and cramped feeling made for much unpleasantness. As SM residents we shy away for any business near downtown; Hostaria is a case in point.

Fresh ricotta was superb.
Neri was wonderful: pasta tender and flavorful, more shrimp than I have seen in pasta/shrimp dishes elsewhere.

Olive oil served with bread was top notch.

This is one of the sleeper hits in the city. Really great, modern Italian cuisine - not too heavy with fantastically fresh ingredients. We love everything from their homemade pasta (try the gluten-free vegetarian spaghetti with lentils - or the Tagliatelle with beef bolognese). Their kamut flour pizzas are also notable - and delicious. Truly can't go wrong here...

My wife and I loved the laid back vibe, but don't be mistaken, they take their food seriously here. Started with the grilled octopus, which my wife was hesitant about, it was off the hook. My wife wanted to order another. I had the porchetta, this was pork candy, and my wife had the raviolo which she loved. Finished with desserts that complimented the meal. Service was prompt without feeling rushed. Overall a great experience and look forward to returning.

My husband and I went to Hostaria del Piccolo on a Saturday night. We were delighted by this wonderful Italian gem. We ordered a green salad, a pasta dish and a chicken dish. Everything was wonderful. We also appreciated that there was a full bar. The servers were polite and very attentive. We will definitely be back!

If the main point of a restaurant is the food, this place is a find. Not overly expensive, very friendly (noisy), attractive but not over-the-top, the food is the thing. The wine list is so-so, but you can find other places to drink. The food is very fresh, well-prepared and very, very tasty. Definitely planning a trip back soon.

Picked up a pizza a couple of years ago and it was good -- the recipe has changed dramatically. Usually restaurants are pretty good during restaurant week. At this one, the salad seemed to have been mixed hours before and was not at all fresh. It was also very difficult to get the attention of the waiter and the service was meh.

Very good food and terrific service. Almost a home run. The farro salad with walnut pesto was AMAZING. Literally one of the best dishes I've eaten in a while. The spaghetti carbonara not so much. But I'd go here again in a heartbeat.

Pizzas are delicious. The only drawback is that the
bench seating tables nnot comfortable that's a bit
of a bummer.

I loved the food (the frittaria, the nervonera, the Nutella pizza) but they allow dogs on the patio. One even licked my husband's leg and this was not appreciated. When we came home, I had a flea bite. So that's a problem, unless you want to bring your dog I guess.

I am not sure if this is my third or fourth time dining here. I take advantage of the dineLA price (this year a very reasonable $25 dinner price). The food is always delicious and the staff is always attentive and friendly.

Very nice place, great ambience, great service without pretension, and good food that is almost authentic (sorry, I am from Italy, and very picky). The pizza was very good, even though not paper thin like back home, and the pasta also delicious.
the waiters are attentive without being annoying, and there is none of the vibe with the wait stuff that you get in many LA restaurants, they are just genuinely nice.
Thumbs up, will definitely go back.

Lots of gluten-free options. Lots of other dairy-free and egg-free options too.

Good for Paleo and ketogenic types. I'd recommend the porchetta. My wife had the gluten-free spaghetti and that was great too.

In my online reservation, I made a little note about how it was my wife's birthday and to bring out a little, gluten-free dessert with a candle or something if the happened to have that. And they did. I didn't expect them to remember, but it was perfect.

Love this place! Been coming here with my family for a while. Rarely do we find a restaurant that we all love so much that we would keep coming back for, however, hosteria definitely has a special place in our hearts. Not only is the food fantastic but the staff and managers are great. Over the years we have become very close to them and they always make you feel at home. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a relaxed dining experience with quality food.

Came here on Mother's Day for brunch, of which they have a separate menu for, but you can order from their regular menu as well. The grilled octopus which came recommended by the waitress was excellent and something I would order again. The tuna tartar on the other hand left much to be desired as there was not much flavor besides the massive amount of filler avocado. For the main course, I had a bite of the coffee rubbed pulled pork, which was good but not great. My order of the porchetta with polenta and eggs also left much to be desired as I was expecting something closer to the rotiRoti porchetta in SF, and instead got a few thin slices of prosciutto which was hidden under the sunny side eggs and polenta. The reason for my great rating was due to the fact that the covered outdoor area was perfect on a beautiful late morning day and the waitress we had was great and nearly made the food completely forgivable. Go for the octopus and service and ambiance is what I leave you with.

Sorry - my party was made up of 4 senior adults. Our dining experience started fine, good food, good service, but about half way through dinner a large group of celebrants took the table directly behind us, sharing the bench (which has no back). It was impossible to continue enjoying our meal, so we left before dessert.

Hello :)

So I reserved a table for me and my boyfriend and we found out about this restaurant through the show Chopped. My boyfriend is a chef and he seemed eager to go to this restaurant. Let me tell you the food was great!! it was delicious and the ambiance was good too but the service...not so great towards the end. In the beginning it wasn't that busy we arrived around 6pm. The waitress was super friendly and welcomed us. She was very descriptive and helpful. Everything was good until it got busy. There was a big party and we were forgotten. She was soo caught up giving that party wine that we were just waiting in the end. I was very eager to get dessert and well she ruined the experience. Instead of checking up on us she just ignored and forgot about us. Which too me is unacceptable. she could have easily swinged by or checked how we were doing the 6 TIMES she kept going to the table next to us. No " How are we doing?" "Would you like a little more time "...nothing. she was literally 2 inches away from us and nothing. That really ruined the whole experience. It was really upsetting since we started with such good service and what not. We even had to wait like 5-7 minutes just to pay. We gave her the money to pay and what did she do she just put the receipt and money in her pocket....like REALLY?!... don't get me wrong the food was great! but I would suggest to go when its not busy. so like brunch or something.

We arrived a bit late but had one of their main rooms to ourselves. The waiter gets huge bonus points for speaking Italian to our Italian guest. The selection of wines was perfect for the food menu. We enjoyed four or five appetizers and then a couple entrees. We'd give thumbs up to the grilled octopus, the fish special, and the salad. Overall a pleasant meal with attentive service.

This is the second time we have gone and it did not disappoint. We had the calamari, beets and fontina cheese appetizer followed by pizza, lasagne and tagliatelle for dinner. We spent 3 hours there leisurely enjoying our dinner with freinds. Cocktails were great as is the wine list. The staff go out of their way to make it a fun relaxing experience. As they are Italian you really feel as though you are in Italy taking time to enjoy a meal the way it was intended to be. Forget the hustle and bustle of 3rd Street and Ocean Avenue, go a few blocks to 6th and Broadway and you can forget you are in LA.

The location is pretty good on the corner of 6th and Broadway. Street parking can be challenging. the ambiance is very contemporary. the main dining area is very noisy. The covered patio is much better if you want ot have a conversation. The service is pretty good. Our waiter insisted on giving us the Italian language exprerience but we could not understand him. The quality of the the food was first class, But the portions are very small. If we knew better , we should have ordered side dishes. all in all the restaurant is ok, The only reason I would not highly recommend it is noisy and a little pricey if you have to order appetizers or side dishes. Also a $25 corkage fee is not warranted for this restaurant.

The food here always surprises and delights me. I have never had a wrong choice given the more limited options of the DineLA lunch or dinner menu. The limitations are not a deterrent since the prices for the lunch and dinner menus are very reasonable and afford the diner a taste of the consistently delicious food at this establishment.

Came here for DineLA with a few friends and ended up with two of us getting DineLA and the other two getting other items off the menu for us all to split.

The happy hour is until 9pm which is great, but its only served in the bar.

The gnocchi with marinara sauce definitely took the award for best dish. We felt like we were eating clouds covered in sauce. I've never had gnocchi so light and fresh tasting. No clue if its hand made every day, but sure tasted like it.

Arrived very hungry from LAX on a Sunday night. Our waitress was fantastic throughout, helping with wine choices. Food arrived quickly in good order. Tuna tartare, Octopus and grilled calamari appetizers were tasty and perfectly cooked. Gluten free pasta choice was better than most attempts at this. Fish special and excellent NY steak entree were all top notch.

Love Hostaria del Piccolo, Santa Monica! There's a lovely outdoor seating area that looks trendy, but a really very comfortable. The service was great. My friend and I shared a delicious arugula salad that I couldn't get enough of. It wasn't too spicy and dressed with pine nuts, melt-in-your-mouth avocado, and Parmesan crisp. We also shared the porchetta pizza that was absolutely delicious. Did I say melt-in-your-mouth delicious yet? This is where I want to go for my birthday dinner next month. Yum!
