Horizons Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
What a great spot. Well, except we were fogged in but that's not their fault. Only issue I had was it taking almost an hour for our food, with the excuse that one member of our party ordered a well done steak. What does that take? An extra 4-6 minutes? Then the people next to us got their steaks, including what looked to also be one well done...in about 15 minutes. The wait wasn't a big deal. The excuse wasn't honest.
Ordered calamari appetiser, it was a bit disappointing and pedestrian for a higher end restaurant.
Grilled would have been better.
On the other hand, my wife's cheese appetiser was excellent and the steak and desserts perfect.
Service was exceptional, unhurried, unobtrusive, gracious. Very pleased.
Dear Reviewer. We have had our Christmas party with you, many years ago, and on the occasion of our shop managers birthday, six of us decided to celebrate at 6.30 this last Monday and consider you again. Our company is B+B Scale Models. My name is Jon Evers and after arriving we were happy to be back. Our bill came to well over three hundred dollars. Steak and Lobster, clams and chowder, salad's etc. Now the down side. The escargot were severely over 'Garlicy' if that is indeed a word! I had to send my 'Cold in the centre Blue steak back after ordering medium rare. The two lobsters were very nicely presented, but again, severely overcooked and rubbery. When the steak was returned, it was the same tough 'New York' that had been re-cooked....A definite No-No. Hard vegetables and bland potatoes. I never complain and had written the expensive experience off: Until I received this E today. Therefore I decided to negatively comment on our meal, and to unfortunately state just how disappointed we were when we left. Sir/Madam....The food was uninspiring, under and over cooked and put a damper on our evening. I would hope that this comment may have some impact, but we will not be booking our Christmas get-together with Horizons. Thank you for your time. Jon Evers.
We've had some excellent visits to Horizon's. This visit gave us a phenomenal mountain top view of Vancouver on a clear night. Service is attentive as always.
The special was a three course meal with salad, steak & lobster entrée and dessert. The steak was well seasoned; the lobster sweet. My wife had beef ribs that were unfortunately dry but was taken care of by the restaurant. Anyone can have an off night and it was well handled. Still an outstanding visit even with a glitch.
Our experience was great. First of all because of the food. We had the steak and lobster, which is the taste is good. Price wise a little expensive (i guess that's what is vancouver pricing is nowadays). We also had desert > churros, yummy and was good. Aside from that our server was great too. I was delighted by the service and give him a good tip. Overall experience was great but will do it on special occasion only.
Went to Horizons with my family for Sunday brunch. The views are nice at the restaurant but we were not impressed with the service. After being seated, we waited a considerable time for a waiter. After seeing another table who was seated after us be greeted by their waiter and receive water, we got up to get the attention of a waiter to get our drinks ordered. When I commented we had been seated for a long time before anyone came, the waiter was barely apologetic. Overall, the service we received from our waiter was not very friendly which made our brunch a little less pleasing despite the nice views and standard brunch menu.
Horizons was good but not great. I would not go back unless I needed a restaurant in that area for a business lunch or dinner. The service was friendly but not impressive. I wouldn’t necessarily avoid this restaurant but certainly would not crave going back. Certainly not fine dining.
Went for brunch on a Sunday. Limited menu for brunch items. I ordered the orange french toast. Yuck. Think pieces of white bread no taste of orange and some of them were mushy and not cooked inside. My husband had their new item mexican eggs and sausage it was ok. The restaurant did take the french toast off the bill but that did not compensate for my sick stomach for the rest of the day. The view is nice and we will go back to the park and bring our own lunch. Not going back to horizons even for the view unless we just drink bottled beverages :)
To everything there is a season, a time, a place, and, sadly, perhaps a time to go. I have been coming to this restaurant for many, many years, indeed was a customer when it was still the late, unlamented Owl and the Oarsman. Up until recently (say the last two years) I looked forward to coming here for fresh seafood presented in a lovely setting. Now, it just seems tired. The evening began poorly when they couldn't find my reservation, made through Open Table. They didn't seem concerned, and as other tables were available, neither was I. I thought the menu was tired and predictable, but I wasn't expecting cutting edge so, Ok. The execution was drab, the flavors a bit muddy, and the service seemed distracted. Wine by the glass was reasonable, although a bit limited. On the whole, I left the restaurant feeling vaguely disappointed, and was definitely not thrilled to receive a chiding note that I had missed my reservation. Sadly, I wished I had.
First time to Horizons, the area is beautiful, with a great view
Inside the restaurant is nice but the noise level was definitely much louder than I expected, the menu at first glance seemed very basic
I ordered a steak and my wife ordered a salmon burger
The steak had quite a bit of fat in it that was almost impossible to cut through, and my wife's burger wasn't very special at all she felt it was bland.
The neighboring tables were very loud and made it hard to enjoy a nice night due to screaming children and people constantly taking pictures of themselves and their plates with flash cameras.
I was disappointed with the visit and will not be recommending this place to anyone and will not be going back myself,I would have spent less money at the Keg and had a better experience.
The view and setting of this restaurant should have made it a top notch one. But the food was below mediocre. Don't order the octopus tuna poke. Any chef should know this isn't something to be pre-made and just scoop to serve. The acidity in the dish cooked the tuna right through and it was just gross. Very disappointed.
The dinner and evening we had a Horizon's was a very special celebration for a few friends. It was great food and service and we picked a beautiful night for the scenery. We hadn't been to Horizon's in a while ( approx. 2 years) and it met and exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a loving evening.
Habib, our server, has been there for 31 years. He knows his business and provides professional service. The view is likely the best in Vancouver on a clear evening.
The meals were served promptly and the cuisine was in the upper mid range of gourmet. The $35 three course options seemed to provide good value. Dessert was excellent. A great place to entertain first time visitors to Vancouver.
Went for mom's 71st birthday dinner, table for her, my wife, and myself. I requested a table facing by the window facing west but didn't get that as we were seated on the east side.
We shared calamari which was alright. My wife and mom both had the filet mignon which they both enjoyed. I ordered the ribeye like usual, but was brought a new York steak. Ribeye is my favourite cut, and I have had it previously at Horizons 2 or 3 times (all been good). But our server stated it was a new York when it was brought though I don't remember seeing it so I thought I will try first. It was obviously a New York steak, as it was leaner, drier and no marbling (no fat except a small strip on the outside). I order the New York at The Keg normally, and this was the exact same cut. I brought it to the attention of the servers who said it was in fact a ribeye, and the server who brought it claimed she misspoke. I didn't want to argue this point any further so accepted. The steak was good, but it was absolutely the wrong cut, and the servers should have known better.
Have been enjoying Horizons for many years but because of this one experience it is doubtful we will ever return. Food on first attempt served under cooked. On second attempt served cold. Beautiful views of Vancouver but food preparation needs to be addressed immediately.
