Horatio's Ratings and Reviews
I love this restaurant in the pass but feel it’s over priced for the food. Recently I came here with my husband for a valentines date ,Service was excellent but the food was not so great. My husband and I both agreed that we can get better less expensive dinner elsewhere.
Was looking forward to the Prime Rib but was disappointed. We asked for medium but it came pink (thought it would be gray with some pink inside). It was salty (more than we liked) and it was hard to cut. Years ago we had Prime Rib and it was excellent. We had the filet there a few weeks before and it was excellent.
Hair in food
Burger completely raw (blood raw)
Wedge salad you can barely see the toppings. It was a plate of just lettuce. Water no lemon, no tablecloth (other tables had table clothes)
It was a very bad night for Horatios not sure I will ever make it in their again!
Horatio's staff is always friendly, attentive and welcoming. Since we have been going there for a very long time we know a lot of the staff. We are always made to feel special. Even if they are not waiting our table if they see us they stop and say hello.
The food is always wonderful and presentation is top notch.
I went to Horatio’s for my Valentines Day dinner. The ambiance was excellent as usual and the service was very good. I loved the Point Reyes salad, but I didn’t like the breaded sole because it had too much breading and the fish didn’t taste fresh. This was a one off for me since I usually love the food at Horatio’s. I will return to the restaurant, but I won’t order the sole.
Pluses: Above average food and dinning experience. Wonderfull ambiance, above average friendly service. Attentive, accommodating, and all with a sincere smile.
Negatives: The portions are small for it's pricing. Does the ambiance justify the higher pricing? No, but add it the great tasting menue, and it is eadier to swallow.
The on-line reservationing is convenient, but didn't have enough available seating slots available, even though when seated, there were several tables vacancies, and we were held waiting 25 minutes for our reservation time. A couple came in right after us without reservations, they were told seating only with reservations, they went on-line right there, and got a reservation time 15 minutes ahead of us, and was seated ahead of us. Disturbing!
Our most negative experience, was on the bill. We were suprised by a Restaurant imposed TAX! That's right, the businesses own imposed tax! So on the bill, there was two taxes, theirs and the state's. Their tax is subsidized employee wage, that (they said) keeps the restaurant owners from raising the food prices to pay their employees a living wage.
For two people, the bill came to $149, and we tipped about 18% ($25).
Out of fairness, They did say, they would remove it, if I requested. I left it, and took it out of her tip. She would have got 20%.
They said that the employees get the tax, via increased wage. Well I hope so, for her sake. I viewed it as double tipping.
Next time, I will request it removed.
If I wasn't attentive, I would have overlooked it. Disturbing!
Very nice after theater preValentine's Day dinner treat. The food was fresh, delicious, and perfectly prepared. The food presentation was very nice. Our waiter, Chad, was very friendly and so courteous and helpful. With the marina and their huge windows there was plenty of natural light. Not overpriced.
Our server took very good care of us. We enjoyed our dinner so much. Before our entree came, our server made sure we had enough of their tasty garlic bread. Our dinner was very good but I could only get to half of it, I was very full. It was stuffed fish with crab and lobster. It was a good pick and very tasty.
Prime Rib and Broadway Pea Salad are our favorites. Both were well prepared that night.
Service varies with the individual server. At this visit service was courteous but slow. Others in our party were a good way through their meal by the time the condiments requested were provided. The restaurant was fairly empty so it was quiet. Usually the noise level is moderate.
Our family has been coming to Horatio’s for many years. This lunch visit was to celebrate my niece’s birthday. The food was wonderful as always. We sat by a window and enjoyed the view of the water and the boats. What was exceptional about this visit was the service from our waiter which was above and beyond. I wish I could remember his name, but I can’t. He seemed to read our minds and bring us just what we needed. It was a relaxing, delicious and fun experience.
Our wait staff was great. We had a young man from the Ukraine who was priceless, professional and very attentive to requests made while we were lunching.
Also, the young man who seated us made sure that we had a good table because we had a slight weight even though we had reservations.
Overall experience was very delightful and great food as always.
We had a 6PM reservation. We were taken to our table after about a ten minute wait. The table was a booth on The a Quarter deck and it was easy to talk because the noise level was fairly quiet, and vent with a packed house. Our waitress was quick to get us the menus and immediately told us that one of the desserts on the Appreciation menu was out for the night, but the restaurant would substitute any dessert on the menu. We all ordered the clam chowder for our first course. It was warm but not hot. For our second course, 2 ordered the chicken Dijon and 2 ordered the prime rib. The 2 that had chicken thought it was delicious and was a generous portion. The prim rib was a very thin slice but arrived cooked as ordered, 1 medium rare and 1 medium. The accompaniments on the plate were fine. Then we waited a long time for the dessert, 1 key lime pie, 3 cheesecake. Finally after about 10 minutes, the waitress arrived and told us they were all out of any desserts and we could have vanilla ice cream. Waitress also told us we got the last 2 servings of the prime rib. Seems like the kitchen did not know about the special. The prime rib is on their menu all the time. There must have been nothing left for all those diners who followed us after 6. We ordered all 3 courses when we ordered too. I reminded the waitress that the special was continuing the next day too. Our waitress apologized for the lack of enough food. Finally when our ice cream arrived. 2 of 4 were Judy a big soup of melted ice cream. The other 2 were only half melted.Hot fudge was served on the side. All in all, the meal was Ok but nonetheless a big disappointment. The wait staff was doing the best that they could under the circumstances. Horatio’s was on of our favourites for more than 30 years. It no longer is because it’s really an overpriced steakhouse now. Sad to see it lose the seafood centric menu.
As always Horatio's was exceptional. My wife had the salmon and I had prime rib. Part of a three course special that Horatio's was doing to honor teachers and support staff. We had great service like we come to expect!! Thank you, Horatio's for honoring teachers!
We had reservations for 5 on Thursday at 7pm. Had to wait for our table. Had requested a window table when I made the reservation, we did not get it, which was disappointing. Our waitress was excellent, but waited for our meals for at least an hour. There was a guest at another table with a really obnoxious loud laugh which was annoying in such a nice restaurant. Over all the food was excellent when it finally arrived. Good sized portions.
Kelly was awesome on the phone as welk as all staff very accommodating. ( Remember the Mustard Seed Kelly. Mathew 17:26. If ye have faith, Nothing shall be impossible unto you"
I brought Mom on her actual 80th birthday Jan 10 and our server brought a special Mardi Gras cake I brought for my Mom. She was awesome. ( sorry I forgot her name, but she had a Tahoe wedding that next day) Then, Saturday Jan 13th my husband and I brought her again and Steven was our server. Great service overall. Next, our entire family came back yes a third time Sunday Jan 21st, party of 8 in the bar, and once again, great service from Steven. Great job everyone from the service, food atmosphere and all. I was an employee WAY back 1979-1973 and,,,consistent with then, you all are doing a great job!
