Once a favorite, the restaurant has slipped. While it was always somewhat noisy, when the food was better that could be tolerated. Most items reeked of garlic that tended to overpower the other flavors. Portions were certainly generous but when the taste is not appetizing, much food gets wasted making the meal expensive and poor value. I do not plan to return to this venue as a result.
We arrived a few minutes after our reservation time and were told that we would have a 15 to 20 minute wait. After about 10 minutes we were shown to a table and given menus (but not a drink menu). Warning sign should have been that ours was the only occupied table in the section. After about 15 minutes of just sitting there we managed to flag down the seater again and told her that we'd not received water, drink menu, bread or even had a waiter at our table. She brought a drink menu and we ordered. Another 15 minutes went by and our drinks and bread finally arrived. We ordered (from the seater -- we never saw an actual waiter the entire evening) and waited another 20 minutes for our food to arrive. My seafood pasta dish was very good, but my wife's stuffed crab was very cold. Her fish was not even completely cooked. After we were finally able to get the attention of the seater again we managed to pay and leave. The good news was that they didn't charge us for my wife's meal. Clearly they are understaffed, which is not acceptable given the prices they're asking. We'll likely not return even though this has been one of our go-to places for special evenings.
Food is good but overpriced. Went there because it was a buy one get one free lunch combo so that made it reasonable. Alcohol totally overpriced. $16 for a glass of champagne. Ripoff. Wait staff seems to have changed. Young and a kind of inexperienced.
Great food I really enjoy visiting
Love Early Dining
Horatios provided the ambiance for a delicious dinner. The view added to the setting and our waiter was very good.
We've been going to Horatio's for many years, and it has yet to disappoint.
Our reservation was for 7:30 but we were not seated until 8:00. I ordered rack of lamb medium rate but it was served well done. I had it brought back to the kitchen but came back rare. Service was slow.
The food was great once we received it. Our waitress decided to help a table that was seated well after us before coming to take our order. 4 passes later we received our water, when the other table received their food. When we finally did get our order, she never checked back with us. Another waitress checked on us brought us bread and another drink. The hallway near the restrooms and front entrance reeked of sewage and there was a roof leak in the women's restroom. A reservation used to be needed to get in the door and be seated immediately, but my reservation was not needed as there were only 3 tables in use, and 2 people "one of them being my date" at the bar. I don't live in the area so I hadn't been there in a while. But I was really disappointed to see the place falling apart. Please please please, get it together Hiratio's.
We went on a Friday night, and they were short staffed due to illness. So even though we had a reservation, it took a bit of a wait to get seated. And then when we were seated, it took them forever to just get our drinks, and then forever again to get our food. My 5 YO daughter kept saying how hungry she was and wondering out loud where the food was.
The dishes themselves were mediocre and not worth the price. I had sole stuffed with lobster and crab, and it really needed help. Very bland. Others I went with had the peppercorn salmon (a bit dry), the Mahi mahi (also bland and dry). The best dish was the non-seafood dish, a chicken with pesto penne.
The manager (?) was kind and comped us dessert (creme brûlée) which was pretty good and a key lime pie.
Maybe this place is fun for drinks and appetizers, but not worth the price in my book. Certainly not for dinner. If you want a place along the water with similar food choices, I'd go to Kincaid's in Oakland, where the food is better in my opinion. Sorry, Horatio's--I was really hoping to love it.
“Hurrah” to our Server who ended up saving the dining experience. Our group of 5 with a 6:15pm reservation were seated and ignored for too long a time. We discussed leaving when the assigned server to our table finally came by and he apologized saying he’d be back shortly to assist us. We observed the restaurant section was not even 1/2 full. Again we waited a long unexceptable amount of additional time when my husband asked the server who finished assisting a table next to ours if she could take our order. She said yes and expressed her apologies to us after we shared why we asked her to take over. She was pleasant, upbeat, great smile and had a wonderful attitude about what she just took over.
