Hops and Hominy continues to uphold a high quality bar on cuisine and service. The food is a bit more than other restaurants but you can taste the difference. We grabbed a late reservation, unfortunately some menu items ran out, so I would recommend showing up early for the most choices. Will definitely return on my next trip to SanFran.
The 2-people tables along the wall were a bit too close. Difficult to get in/out without rubbing the next table. Very loud; impossible to carry on a conversation. Food was excellent! Perhaps a bit pricey for the atmosphere.
Enjoyed our meal there. Nice waiting staff. Good beer, wine seemed expensive compared to at home in UK but that seems a feature in all the places we’ve visited over here. Food really good but lots of it. Definitely go there again
The best mac and cheese we've ever had! We can't stop talking about it!
Fantastic find in SF. Great food, actually went there two nights in a row. Love their Manhattan, probably one of the best I have ever had. Service was excellent as well.
Food was good, server was ok
Full of locals as a good sign, the menu consists of American staples which were well cooked
Great place for a casual date and some comfort food.
The beef cheek was exceptional! The ribs were delicious and great sides, too. Enjoyed the beer selection and had a great cider as well.
A good vibe and great authentic cooking.
Good vibe, and food was good for price and portion
The fried chicken was very good. Great and fast service.
Food is pretty good. The steak was huge, a little tough, but pretty good. The brussle sprouts were good, a little strong in the balsamic but still good. I’m not a fan of the radishes cooked with the potatoes and carrots so I just left them on the plate. They have a good selection of interesting beers. Only two desserts on the menu but after the steak I didn’t have room anyway.
Amazing spot! Once you find the restaurant (which is in an alley in between stores on Grant st, you find yourself in this special cuisine with a vibrant vibe between staff and customers. It is a perfect place to go on dates, anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions. It’s a nicely dimly lit dining area between the main floor and an upstairs seating.
I was on a date so the sitting for 2 persons area felt a little too close between each table but you forget your surrounds once you conversate. Expect to be paying roughly $80-$90 for two people plus tip. Food is delicious and the staff is very friendly.
Food is good; however really salty fries and Mac n cheese
Noise level is really loud.
This place has gone down hill. Servers are beyond rude and food was bland in comparison to previously. This place used to be a lot better.
We love Hops & Hominy- but we had the worst experience this time. Our waitress was incredibly rude and once she took our order she never returned to check on us. We saw her just upstairs chatting with another server and she wouldn't come over. We had to ask someone else for our check and then our waitress dropped it off then went back to chatting. We gave our payment to the manager and had specific instructions, she passed it off to the waitress and we were charged incorrectly. It was very disappointing because we love the food here but will not be returning anytime soon.
Fantastic southern food in SF! We were here for dinner before a show. The cocktails were unique and delectable. We loved the brussels sprouts appetizer and the shrimp and grits.
Such phenomenal service! Our reservation was cancelled last minute because someone had rented the restaurant out for the evening. They let us reschedule and gave my date and I two free entrees for the night! Not only did they give us complimentary food, they also came up to us throughout the night to apologize. We will definitely be coming back again.
We enjoyed our dinner at Hops & Hominy. We started off with great cocktails and wonderful cornbread. Salads were creative and entrees were excellent. Service was great. We didn't have to wait for anything too long. I recommend this restaurant also because it is located on a cute side street off Union Square - an ideal location.
Very cute, clean and hip venue with lively and friendly ambiance. Food was a little hit and miss but overall very tasty and flavorful. We had the mac-and-cheese, citrus salad, squid ink pasta, and pork chops. I just found the mac-and-cheese to be skewed a bit more on the salty/savory side, I personally prefer more balance. Free tasty cornbread was very nice. All the food was fairly priced and in satisfying portions. This is a great place for hanging out, catching up, and people watching; it's very versatile, good for a quick bite and drink, or a longer dinner experience if you're on a date. Very easy to make and modify reservations via Open Table. Service was excellent, they were always attentive and very friendly. Definitely a fun place that I'd visit again.
Love the food, drink and service.
Very good food and staff was excellent. Noise level on a Saturday evening (6:30) was rather high. Restaurant could benefit from noise reduction panels hung from ceiling or on walls. Bar liquor and beer selection is very good with 14 craft beers on draught.
They had me at fresh corn bread hot out of the oven. What a great place. We wanted to go back the next night but they are closed on Sundays ; )
I recommend the fried chicken plate.
We’ve been here twice and love be it! Great good, drinks, and atmosphere! We’ll be back, for sure!!
Went to H&H on a Tuesday night. Place was full but we had a reservation so able to sit at 6:45. The fried chicken had been lauded online and by others. We ordered that and the ribs. We added an extra piece of dark meat chicken at +$3 to our order so we could make sure we had plenty for sharing. The chicken we received was very unevenly battered with almost none on half of the breast we received. The white meat was dry. The drumstick was also barely battered and worst of all, the added dark meat appeared to be the thigh from a pigeon. It was so small, after taking the skin off, there was one mouthful of meat. The ribs had a very nice flavor but were not cooked enough and very difficult to get the meat off the bones. The sides of mashed and potato salad were boring and the biscuit was dry. Service was ok but as it was very busy, not able to spend any time with us.
Everything was excellent except the noise level - it was difficult to hear and carry on a normal conversation.
Excellent cornbread in cast iron skillets with delicious honey butter! Caesar salad was spicy & sooo good. Mac & Cheese was great (definitely 5 stars)! Shrimp and grits were savory & smoky and also 5 stars. Service was top notch. Highly recommend this restaurant! Only negative is how hot it was inside. Felt like it was 85+ degrees.
Noise level was a too much on the ground level.
We’ve eaten at Hops & Hominy a few times and have always been pleased with the food/service/value. This visit however, we had a server that made our experience unpleasant with her aggressive behavior. She was rude, and overly possessive when I asked a restaurant employee about the types of Bourbon carried at the bar. I wanted to know what was carried and the expert opinion of the bartender. Our server was rude, walked up to me and demanded that she be consulted. Last time I checked it’s still a free country, even in SF. I tried to explain to her that I wasn’t bypassing her service but to no avail. She remained unpleasant for the remainder of our dinner.
We love Hops and Hominy. I hope that she was just having a bad day.
We had dinner there as it's my daughters favorite restaurant while we're in San Francisco.
They sat us in the back room and told us VERY RUDELY that if we want a better table we would need to wait 45 minutes even though I had made reservations over two months ago.
I should've left at that point rather I chose to stay and endure the agony of semi rude service and bad food.
I will never be going back again you can count on that!
Super fantastic restaurant! Brussels Sprout appetizer was amazing with the perfect amount of bacon crunch and seasoning. All 4 of us were very happy with and thoroughly enjoyed our dinners which were Shrimp & Gritz, Burger, Skirt Steak and Mac and Cheese. All presentations were superb as well. Drink menu is fun and service rocked!
Casual dining in a convenient downtown location. Great service. Food was very good. Loved the arugula, sweet potato salad, black eyed peas fritters and Mac and cheese. Cocktails were expensive but tasty.
Great food, great service. We sat at the upper level and we preferred it over the lower level as it is much quieter. Have been there twice and both times, the food was excellent. Will be back again.
We went to Hops N Hominy for an evening out with friends. The food was fantastic and so was the beer. Our service was great. An all-around enjoyable experience. We would definitely go again.
Loved this place. Waitress was awesome. Made fantastic recommendations. Would come back here in a heartbeat
We had a reservation, and spent over $150 but were treated poorly. We were asked to leave our table to sit at the bar to make room for another large party that just arrived. Acknowledging somewhat how rude it was to do so, the hostess offered complimentary wine for us. At the bar, the bartender slammed his hand down interrupting our conversation and asked if we were going to buy anything. I will not return here
Good food, excellent waitress who worked to get my husband’s martini just right. The place felt cozy and comfortable and the food was prepared with fresh ingredients and innovations to familiar dishes. We are definitely returning to celebrate our anniversary.
Hops & Hominy was a great spot for an early ladies night dinner before a movie. The food and drinks were delicious, the service was on point and the space was very comfortable/accommodating. The restaurant was packed but it wasn't loud and didn't feel crammed. I would definitely recommend.
