It felt like they were trying to hurry us so fast to get us out. The server seemed impatient. She took our utensils away when there was still food on the table.
The restaurant was busy and we had a reservation so we were seated promptly. The service was slow but besides that the food was delicious and the drinks were fun. The cornbread and sweet butter is so yummy. The shrimp and grits are a must try! Would highly recommend and will definitely come back.
Every dish we had was excellent! We also enjoyed the beer and wine selections. The service was very attentive. The only drawback would be the noise level in the main dining room; our conversations required raised voices. The restaurant is vibrant and lively!
Great food and atmosphere! Thanks from a party of 6!
Good food great service and location. Quantity and taste of the food is not worth the value.
Delicious vegan burger best we’ve tasted anywhere!
Wish you were open on Sundays. I am looking for a place to eat for lunch.
The food and drinks were good. We were seated promptly and were able to talk easily throughout our meal.
We split appetizers between the four of us and they were absolutely wonderful! The wings were one of my favs.
Weird environment, food is very tacky and bland in taste. Employees very rude.
Service was great - friendly and fast. Food delicious
Great spot with delicious southern-style dishes. We got the cheddar grits and ribs, which were amazing! So well cooked and their home-made BBQ sauce was fantastic - would've bought a bottle if we weren't headed to a show right after. Drinks were also very good but small in size so a tad pricey. Overall, great experience and fast and attentive service!
We only got appetizers and drinks but both were great. Good selection of beer and wine/cocktails. We got the brussel sprouts, black eyed pea fritters and the pretzel bites. All were delicious- definitely get the pretzel bites!
Appetizers were great (mac & cheese and fried oysters) but the main entrees were bland. We ordered the fried chicken, grits, pi’ boy and pulled bbq and they all lacked seasoning. The ambience and service, however, were great. I would recommend this place for drinks and appetizers, but not for a full sit-down dinner.
Lively place, very loud so more for hanging out with friends. Best mac & cheese and the St Louis ribs were perfect! Will definitely be back.
Best Fried Chicken Ever! I came for the beer, but the food blew us away. The fried chicken was super flavorful, ribs fell off the bone, and sides were also very well executed. (Eat your Brussels sprouts!) Really enjoyed our dinner, only wish the place was bigger so that it was easier to get a table. Absolutely best experience we had this week.
The food was unbelievable. I had the risotto and my date had the fried chicken. The dining room honestly just felt so clean and comfortable. Good music and very very friendly and attentive waiters. Give them all a raise! Thank you for a fun good tasting experience. I am already craving it again and we drove an hour and a half to try it out.
We have been coming to Hops and Hominy for 3 yrs. every time we are in town we visit and have dinner. The food is superb and the staff are amazing!!!
Just ok, I wanted to love it but the food was bland and took forever to come out. Waitress was nice and the ambiance was lovely but a really poor value for what you actually get.
The food was ok, fried chicken acceptable but shrimp on grids were soaked in a liquid sauce which didn’t match at all. Price is definitely too high , 100$ For two entries one appetiser and 3 beers is really a lot
Perfect in every way! Food was terrific! Cocktails amazing!
We had made a reservation for an early dinner since we had drink plans later (we were on holidays and had an early start the next day). When we got there at 4.00pm we were seated immediately but then informed that they were only offering the appetizer menu until 5.00pm. We decided to order a couple of appetizers and have a drink. The pretzel bites and wings were delicious. When 5.00 came, we ordered entrees. They were good, but I wouldn’t say they were amazing (especially for the price). We loved the ambience and we had a good experience, however, it was pretty pricy for an okay meal.
Three of us went and were all pleased with our meals. It was a bit noisy but the hostess went out of her way to find us a quieter spot. We will return.
The fried chicken and ham hock fritters were outstanding. The meal starts out with warm cornbread and honey butter. We also had the cheese and charcuterie tray that featured delicious local cheeses. I highly recommend this location. Can't wait to come back and try their shrimp and grits.
This was my fourth time at this restaurant when visiting SF. Every time has been a treat. The one consistent and notable aspect is their wait-staff. Every one has been a standout in terms of excellent personality, positive energy, and excellent service. Thanks again!!
Great experience at Hops & Hominy. The fried chicken was the highlight. Crispy well season skin combined with a juicy tender inside. We added the mac and cheese as a starter as well and we had all the fixings for a proper yet elegant southern meal.
Fantastic surprise! Wandered in, sat at the bar and were beyond impressed. Food--short ribs and shrimp and grits--were amazing, drinks were imaginative and actually good (sometimes bartenders get too crazy). Waitstaff, particularly the bartender, were on point, friendly and eager to help. And cornbread! Slightly noisy but not too bad. Don't miss!
Excellent server! Great food. Mashed potatoes and biscuits a must have!
Chose this place to walk to from The Bart station as we had a show to watch at 7pm. Got there at 6 pm, seated right away and the waiter immediately asked what type of water we wanted and informed us that the corn bread was coming out soon. We told him we had a show to catch and he assured us that we would have plenty of time. He took our orders and we enjoyed our meal and cocktails without rushing. We paid and we’re out the door by 6:45. Great food, great service and great cocktails!
Awesome group of people very helpful and interested in what they serve. Good times all night cheers
First time visit. The staff was friendly, had a reservation and the table was ready on time. Good menu selection and everything was excellent. Group of 7 had pretzel bites, fried chicken (some said best they ever had), pulled pork sandwiches St. Louis ribs and pork chops. Everyone raved about their food. Definitely on the list of restaurants to recommend and frequent.
Cocktails barely past the halfway mark on the glass. Fried chicken a bit overrated for southern fried chicken. A bit spicy and the chicken must have a runt ( 2 pieces)! Smashed potatoes, very overly salted. Great rootbeer float.
We had dinner there on Friday night.. a bit busy... they would have a better rating if our server Aaron would have at least shown some interest in helping... if you don’t want to work.. stay home..
Lovely food and a very buzzy atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
In from the East Coast for a conference, and we came here for dinner Tuesday night and loved it so much we came back the next night. While the food was as outstanding as it was our first night, the experience pales in comparison because our server was just not as on top of things as the server the night before. (That server actually recognized us and came by yo say hi--he's a keeper: professional and warm and efficient.) if we'd had that same server, my review would've been five stars across the board.
Excellent dinner in this hidden alley in Union Square. Southern food as it’s best. We really enjoyed every single dish from the corn bread, to the shrimp & grits and the risotto. Crafted beer was excellent as well. Service super attentive and nice. We were able to seat at the patio with our dog. Overall an excellent experience.
Ordered shrimp and grits. Small size for price. Five medium shrimp only. Bland taste. Not attractively presented. Like eating out of a cereal bowl.
Our server was fantastic! So nice to have mature, polite, knowledgeable servers. I'm here for a conference and have told my coworkers to come here!
The food was wonderful and a great experience
