HopMonk Tavern - Sonoma Ratings and Reviews
Good quality ingredients and delicious food prepared with care. I had a Reuben sandwich with garlic fries. One of the best I've ever had. My sister had the hopmonk burger & enjoyed her meal. It looked delicious. Nice selection of beer & mixed drinks. Service was friendly & attentive without being intrusive. Nice casual dining experience. I'd come back again.
We have been to Sonoma many times, but had not been to this great restaurant. We found it on Open Table because we wanted somewhere to sit outside and have cheeseburgers. It was perfect. Lovely garden, delicious beer and absolutely great food! We had fish & chips, cheeseburgers, French fries and dessert. It could not have been better.
Service was very slow - it was a half hour between ordering and getting food. Even our drinks - two beers - took 15 minutes.
The food also came all at once. Appetizers, salad, and entrees. The food itself was decent to very good. The artichoke was undercooked and probably not ripe, but the flavor was good. Pork sliders were excellent. Tomato salad was very good.
Overall a disappointment. They need to get their house in order.
Always a reliable pleasure. Hop Monk is a great setting with plenty of seating room outside in the beautiful Sonoma weather. Service was exemplary - over the top nice with a giggle and sincerity. Salads were just what we wanted and they kept the beverages flowing. Already looking forward to the next time.
My husband and I usually love Hopmonk and dine there often, as we live just down the street. Tonight, however, they completely missed the mark. Service on the patio was slow and inattentive--15 minutes for our first beer, no silverware delivered when our apps were dropped, and no service staff in sight. I ended up stealing silverware from a neighboring table. Husbands burger was served w/o condiments and had to flag someone down to request them; second beers actually had to be ordered twice and took just as long as the first round. A portion of the patio was cordoned off for a private event, so the staff was obviously busy and I guess they were just stretched too thin. Won't stop us from a return visit, just more likely to stick to our regular spot at the bar where the service is more dependable.
We had a great dinner with our kids and thought the food was delicious! The sliders and tacos were fantastic. The salads were fresh and healthy. Great brews on tap, nice wine options. Service was prompt and extremely polite and friendly. We highly recommend this place for nice but casual dinner out with friends and families!
I love hop monk ! It's close to my job we actually spoke with the general manager he came to our table just to check in and say hi witch was really nice of him an we told him that every time we have a rough day at work we go to hop monk to dine and unwind love the food and drinks !
I made the reservation. I expected to be welcomed and given a table outside. The hostess said "NO, you should have asked when you made the reservation!"
However, the reservation connection did NOT leave that opportunity. We have been there many times, at noon, without reservation, but we shall reconsider.
The pulled pork was dry and tasted like multiple rewarming.
Went to Hopmonk with my boyfriend for our 3 year anniversary. I had been once before and he has never been before. Great staff and the service was pretty fast even though they were busy. Our food was delious and the prices are great for the quality and amount of food you get. Will definitely be coming back. :)
Hostess was very accommodating. We went to watch the warrior's playoff game and the energy in the bar was awesome! Service was excellent and the food was very delicious. Beer was the highlight for sure. Only "negative" by the time we got there they had run out of the Pliney the Elder =[. Definitely need to go back just for that alone!
Saved Mother's Day - needed something between "white linen" and "fast food" where we could have a cocktail/beer and brunch before our hike in Jack London SP. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Patio seating and friendly pets gave HopMonk a family friendly vibe.
We brought the Darling 86 year old Mother here for Mother's Day because we all wanted to see the Warriors play. We asked for a table where we could see the tv and we were absolutely taken care of. We sat at that table for the entire game, and were never made to feel like we were taking too long. The DM was completely thrilled to be "at a sports bar" watching a game with us and she enjoyed her food too. We shared 3 apps first and they were hits. We had the pickle fries, a first for everyone but me, the sausage bites, and calamari. I can never resist calamari. The hubs and daughter had burgers and both were very happy. The Darling Mother had a chicken panini and loved it. I overindulged on the apps so I had the wedge salad, which was delish. Thank you for making Mom's Mother's Day really special.
We sat inside and it was really really really loud. I had a reservation but they had no outside seating avail and it wasn't a request you can make at the time of using OpenTable. Unless we wanted to wait an hour, we were stuck inside.
Service was slow and food was so so. I have no plans to return here.
Our party of 7 sat outside on sturdy picnic style tables. We enjoyed the great beer and food while listening to music from a nearby speaker. The calamari appetizer was delicious. I had the kale salad with tahani lemon dressing and chicken, also delicious. I had the asparagus soup which was bland and opted not to finish it.
To top off a great evening a wonderful magician named Frank came to our table and entertained us adults and children with his magic tricks and great humor!
One word: inedible. The grilled artichoke was overcooked, the sandwiches so dry they tasted like they were made the day before, the soups were unsalted. If we had sat outside, it might have been a bit better, since there is a little bit of ambiance outside. But your reservation through open table only counts for indoor seating and outdoor seating is first come, first serve. So instead we were sat inside, which is nothing more than a dirty pub. If that's what we were going for, great, but I think we all wanted something that at least smelled clean and table tops that had been properly wiped down. To top it all off the service was so slow, mostly because the waiter was chatting with other waitstaff. My arms grew tired of trying to wave him down. Avoid this place like the plague.
