HopMonk Tavern - Sonoma Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time here! We'll be back for a third. Our first time two of us played it safe with burgers, while I had the tacos from the shared menu. All delicious. I'm not a big beer drinker, so when I wasn't crazy about the beer I ordered, the waitress offered to take it back and bring the beer my daughter ordered when I had a taste of hers.
Second visit it was southwestern salad and pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries- all good! This time, two of us tried cocktails- a Moscow Mule and a Paloma. Waitress wasn't familiar with a Paloma, but she assured me the bartenders could certainly make it. Both cocktails were very tasty. We had dined indoors the first time, but really enjoyed dining at their picture perfect patio on this sunny day.
Had High expectations for a quality meal at hop monk but left with much to be desired. The pickle fries were to die for and in retrospect would have been the only thing I would order if I went again. The pulled pork sandwich was as boring, plain and tasteless of a sandwich that I have had. Seating was poorly done as there was a very loud group that the hostess decided to surround with tables of 2. The noise was so loud that we had to ask to move just so we could interact with each other. In the end Hop Monk would be best for a few beers and appetizers but never dinner.
A friend and I tried this wonderful spot out basically to listen to
some live music. We were seated in the area where the artists were
performing. The food selection was great, the manager was very friendly
and our waiter was a total delight.
I already know that this will become one of my favorites.
I can't wait until warmer weather to experience the outside
We met friends at the restaurant and, with a reservation from open table, we had to wait for a table. The beer selection is great; my friend brought a bottle of wine (1st corkage free).
Service was a little slow but a big party had arrived just before us. Sports TV can not be seen from everywhere but the waitress brought us the score.
Nice place, good food, not for a romantic evening.
We are from the East Coast but whenever in Sonoma make it a point to enjoy a meal at HopMonk. The food is relatively simple pub type grub but well prepared and reasonable in price. The fish & chips especially is good with a thin batter coating instead of the typical thck batter you often find. This trip my meal included one of the "Pliny" beers on tap, the Elder I believe. This points out the fact that HopMonk always has a great beer selection in addition to the food quality.
Visited HopMonk on a rainy Sunday evening and it was just the casual spot with great food and wine/beer we were looking for! Although they were out of a couple of the beers my husband ordered, they were wonderful in offering alternatives and ended up not charging us for his drink. We started with the grilled artichoke, which was fantastic. I had the roasted chicken breast and my husband had portobello mushroom sandwich - both were great and definitely exceeded our expectations. This isn't a pretentious foodie place, but the food is nonetheless high-quality. We finished with the Oreo sundae, which was delightful. I'd definitely recommend HopMonk for a casual, fun night out near "downtown" Sonoma!
The live music was great and the artist/singer was quite amazing. It's a smaller inside area around the music and quite a lively bar with a couple of very loud, screechy drunk ladies that night. Otherwise it was a really good scene and friendly people enjoying the evening. The food was very good and the Oreo dessert was quite amazing, a must try! Very nice wait staff, too.
