Hook Seafood & Grille - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The old Cosmopolitan with nautical highlights is nice for a special night out. Although the bacon wrapped scallops were large and delicious, the rest of the meal was small and uneventful. This especially since it was served on plastic plates. Service was very good and attentive.
For being a seafood specific restaurant, there weren't as many seafood selections as I expected. For the price that was being charged for certain dinners, the quality did not match. For the few amount of diners that were in the restaurant, the service was incredibly slow.
The restaurant ambiance is nice; but, the food was HORRIBLE and way too pricey for what you got. I had the seafood platter - very small - best part was the baked potato. Pathetic! The wait staff was short-handed and kept forgetting to bring some of our food (i.e., sour cream for the potato, drawn butter, salt & pepper). Never again!
Good service, great atmosphere, but where were all the people? It was quiet because we were one of 3 tables on Saturday night at dinner time. The only noise was from the basketball game at the bar. Food was OK. My meal was good, however my husband did not like his, stating the scallops were not done properly, the shrimp was overcooked and the fish was bland. Sorry, wish we could give more stars, but we weren't very impressed. Service was great though!!
Lovely ambiance, very elegant. We enjoyed the New Year's eve seafood buffet, with raw oysters, shrimp, salmon, ahi w/mango salsa, prime rib, leg of lamb, pork tenderloin, salad bar, & chocolate cake for dessert. There was a wide variety of choices, all of them very good. Hook is a hidden gem amidst the Strata construction activity - worth the trip.
Saturday night at 7 PM in downtown Allentown, 7 days from Christmas. We were the ONLY couple in the room. No Christmas ambience, no lights, no decorations and no one else. What a sorry place. The seafood was good but overpriced and there had been no attempt to liven the place up. Second time there but have never in these conditions. Will never go back, and obviously I'm not the only one. PATHETIC.
We will definitely be back!! My mother and I ate here before seeing a performance at the PPL Center. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very attentive. The ambience was very nice and even though there was a table directly next to ours, we never heard their conversation. The food was very good and the portions were very nice. We will definitely come here again.
Overall an expensive underwhelming experience. There's a lot of wasted potential. I went for restaurant week with my wife. She got a seafood plate. The crab cakes were good she said. Not a fan of the scallops or the shrimp (over cooked). The seasonal vegetable (green beans) were fine but the baked potato had literally no seasoning. I order the ribeye with the same sides. The steak wasn't the best cut in the world and could have had some more distinct taste. However the server was outstanding and recommended an excellent win choice which made things better for sure. He was actually very good and attentive.
The dessert was okay but the pound cake was dry and hard (probably because of being refrigerated.) the atmosphere of the restaurant was for lack of a better word pretty dead. Barely a third of capacity was filled. The employees were mostly at the bar but I can't blame them, there was nothing going on...
In summary I expect more from a 100+ meal.
The waitress was amazing. The bar staff was awful. For a higher end place, you'd expect a bartender that knows how to make drinks. The food was decent. I'm on the fence if we'd return. The salmon had a sauce basically poured over. No flare but an overpowering sauce that tasted like it came from a bottle. The crab cakes were not jumbo lump. It was loaded with fillers
Disappointing. Booked 9 friends for a birthday dinner. Waiter was good and attentive. Food quality was low and had very little taste. Scallops and crab cakes were over cooked and dry. Dinner was served with overcooked grey asparagus and a dry baked potato. Food temp was tepid. Cheesecake was tasteless and served with a frozen Strawberry. I am sorry I wasted my time and almost $600 on this place for a special occasion. In the end not even a candle on the birthday girls dessert. I remained upbeat for the sake of the occasion but hosting my friends there was an embarrassment. Thank god I brought favors so my guests had a decent sweet ending to a lackluster evening. None of us will return.
Hook is directly across the street from Miller Hall. Friends requested we eat there due to convenience of the location. Very early seating due to concert start time. The room was very empty and quiet. Appetizers were bland. Seems like bar has fewer selections. Main courses were well prepared. Lamb was very good. Limited dessert menu, no ice cream or gelato. Good server and wait staff. Just seemed a bit cold.
For only having four patrons in the entire building for a 2-hour period, the service was extremely slow. Drinks took a while to arrive. Ordered fried calamari; I'm convinced only 10 pieces had squid in them while the rest were the fried outside. The calamari was also over-fried. The main courses (seafood combo and twin crab cakes) were good, not great for a seafood restaurant. I'be had better crab cakes at a conference in a hotel. I would not recommend this restaurant and I will not be back.
The layout was very nice. Having multiple floors for dining and a club on the roof, there is a lot of potential. The service was excellent. The food was very good and the atmosphere was very nice. Being relatively new the place was pretty empty. I would like to see how they operate when they have a crowd. Overall definitely worth the trip.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and were extremely disappointed in the food and overall experience. Our waitress was great but that was about it. My husband got a lobster tail that came out undercook and basically raw had to be sent back. I was completely done my meal when his lobster tail came out but the rest of his dinner did not. At this point we wanted to leave. My husband never ate. They comped the wine but I would never go there again.
it took 25 min for his lobster to come back out.
Terrible! Seriously no idea how this place was highly rated, or even still open. Must have been relatives posting. Food was undercooked on some over cooked on others. No sauces and bland. Spent a ton and got rubbery cold lobster tail for our trouble. Food was really so bad and only outdone by the service which was the worst I've ever experienced. Honestly it is obvious there is not training program. Avoid this trap at all cost
I was looking forward to trying Hooks. The experience was just average . The food was good, but no standouts and our service was poor. Atmosphere was very nice. I think our waiter was new so we did cut him some slack. Went to a show afterwards and heard many people complaining about the service. Will try again.
Drinks were Great - Neil made excellent Drinks and he was very personable.
Oysters as an appetizer were very good... So we go the Broiled seafood sampler... Very dull... 2 shrimp-no sauces, 2 scallops just thrown on the plate - no sauces, a dried pc of fish - no sauce... Crab cake was good - lots of crab.... sides were very good Mushroom Roosotto was outstanding... Tried to get desert but they were all out... Sat night @ 7:00 - all out of desserts? So in the end - appetizers very good... sides great - Entrée subpar... very dry very bland... It was our 35th wedding anniversary and this was not special at all.
Beautiful interior, not crowded, quiet. That's about it. Food was undercooked. Fish was not fresh. Waitress had not been trained - poor table service. No manager visible. No one asked how our dinner was. Only saw waitress twice. Very expensive for a notch above a chain restaurant. Skip this one.
