Hooded Merganser at Penticton Lakeside Resort Ratings and Reviews
I love the Merganser, however the one thing that can ruin a lunch is the music being too loud. We asked the serving staff to turn it down as we couldn't have a conversation because of the loudness.
Music - background - not dominant. Change the volume and you have a perfect venue.
We were visiting Penticton, and although it wasn't the first visit, it was the first time at HM.
We had a booth facing the water, and the view was fabulous. The service was excellent, our server very friendly and attentive. The food was very good, although the Thai curry was just a tad too spicy for me. But I could have ordered it a little milder if I had wanted to. Overall a great dinner -- would definitely go back again.
We were dining with7 of us, 2 people with serious celiac disease. We chose the Hooded Merganser because they had several gluten free options. We asked our server about gluten free options and we made her aware 2 were seriously allergic to gluten. However upon ordering, one of our group with celiac received sausage in his meal and after asking we were told that there was indeed gluten in the meat. He had to have his meal replaced and we were half finished our meals when his finally arrived.
Another wonderful evening at the Hooded Merganser! The service was impeccable, the food delicious. Our server Chris was very helpful, able to answer any questions we had. The live music was a pleasant surprise, and just added to the enjoyment of the evening. We have never been disappointed at the Hood.
The menu selection is some what limited and has deteriorated over the last couple of years.
My wifes meal was cooked properly but mine was under cooked.
The wine prices are out of line, $45 for a $22 bottle of local (Penticton) wine.
If it wasn't for the service and the view, it would have been a non memorable evening.
As far as vegetarian options go the restaurant had one on the menu and it was passable at best. They should also do something about the fruit flies. We had to keep the wine bottle capped and napkins over our glasses. With such a great location they can do better to enhance the ambience
We made a reservation at this restaurant because we had celebrated my sister's birthday there 2 years ago and had a great experience. Celebrating my sister's milestone birthday this year we thought it would be great to return to the same restaurant. This visit was a disappointment to us - there was no live music and the food was just okay. 🙁
after being seated at our table we were ignored..i had to flag down a manager to get service.
my friend ordered the ceaser salad and made a comment to our waiter that the salad had way to much garlic in it..the waiter made a comment that it is a ceaser salad after all..a good waiter would have apologized and gotten another salad.
Friend get together vis6itong from Ottawa and Calgary here in the Okanagan. Despite the smoke,y skies,..tne service, food and great atmospbere was what we were after to showcase. Our 4th visit in 6 weeks with good friends that we were not disappointed with.
Thanks and see you again ,..
I have been dining at the Hood since it opened, always enjoy it, the staff has always been fantastic. Overall I would recommend it time and again. My one critique would be that over time the quality of the meals seems to have gone down somewhat. It use to be that I knew when eating there I would walk away thinking how fantastic the food was, with perfect portions. The last few times while the atmosphere, staff and overall experience have been very enjoyable, the food seems to have been unexciting.
Hopefully some food for thought, thanks for asking.
Excellent in all areas. We were starved and the salad came quickly which we appreciated.
The entree came in a timely fashion and was piping hot. VERY happy they put the Butter Chicken back on the menu. The local wine was delicious and good value for the cost.
EXCELLENT ALL AROUND
Fantastic place. Only reason for giving service a 3 is this Canadian tipping requirement, which for a UK person is absurd. Especially when your waiter tels you that 15% is what is required for ordinary service - good but not special.
Would we go again, absolutely. The food is fantastic, especially the Asian influenced food.mwould we recommend it, absolutely yes.
We stayed at the Penticton Lakeside Resort and ate at the Hooded Merganser several times,
breakfast on the outside deck and dinner inside at a high top booth...so comfortable and cozy!
The view was enough to get a five star out of us but the service and quality of food was right up there as well! We are both healthy eaters and could always find something delicious. Great variety in the menu and the servers had giant smiles day and night.
This is a fantastic Restaurant. Service is too notch. Menu is diverse serving local, Canadian and international dishes. Flexibility is offered for allergies and food preferences. Great care is taken to ensure families are well taken care of, which then ensures couples are able to also have a romantic dinner. The ambiance is beautiful with full glass walls floor to ceiling on three sides of the restaurant, all facing Okanagan Lake. Wine list is very good offering many local wines, but also a mix of international. Seating available both inside and out with all seats offering incredible views. Value for kids is excellent. And they offer coloring also!
We had friends from the UK that we brought to dinner. We sat outside and they were blown away by the atmosphere and view. Our server, Chris, was wonderful but sadly the food was a little disappointing. Thankfully the crème brulee saved the day!! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening which I think our friends will remember for ever.
