Not everyone drinks alcohol , so we were very surprised that they did not offer Perrier water, and was made to feel guilty that they would have to go outside to the other restaurant to get sparkling water. A case of 24 Perrier is $20.00 , seems easy enough to have on hand.

Enjoy coming there always, friendly staff and great atmosphere! Would love to see more seafood on the menu and not just for special occasions. Great place for friends, couples &( families) before 8pm. Lol! Will be checking out the evening specials more often!😊

Atmosphere was great. The server was good. The salmon was overdone and the "30 day aged" steak wasn't as tender as I had anticipated. A food evening overall.

We were given a gift card for Christmas from our daughter to correspond with attendance at a curling draw at the Scotties. It is a lovely location. Service and food were exceptional!

We rarely eat out due to my wife's severe food allergies. The server and chef's were very diligent and understanding of her condition. They were thorough with the ingredients and mitigated any possible ingredient cross contamination. That attention to detail resulted in a wonderful evening of flavorful vegetarian dishes , great local wine, and an always cozy & intimate atmosphere. Well done crew! We'll definitely be back soon!

Wonderful service by Jefferson.
Upon making the booking I had mentioned it was for a birthday but this was never acknowledged. However, we all had a lovely time and the food was excellent.

The Hooded Merganser is always my #1 choice for a special evening out. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic evening, celebrations or even a girls night out. The view is exceptional and the staff are all very professional and pleasant and very friendly.

The evening started out so well, but when questioned on something, the server got very defensive, and was downright cold and belligerent the rest of the night. Ruined a nice outing with friends

On-the-water setting and view is stunning during the day. Service was professional and mature. Wine and beer selection are decent. They've changed the menu and food reviews at our table varied from average to good. One person thought the ribs were average, another thought them good, my meal was average and a fourth thought his meal was quite lovely. A mixed bag. Worth trying.

Always love the ambiance at the Hooded Merganzer. My won ton soup had uncooked chewy won tons. When I sent it back and received it again they were still chewy. The dynamite roll rice was crunchy not soft. But everyone knows we will be back because you can’t beat the beautiful setting.

I love the Merganser, however the one thing that can ruin a lunch is the music being too loud. We asked the serving staff to turn it down as we couldn't have a conversation because of the loudness.
Music - background - not dominant. Change the volume and you have a perfect venue.

Filet Mignon cooked to perfection! Blackened Tuna cooked to perfection as well as great Cajun seasonings! Very experienced chefs! And the best part, when I check the Filet Mignon both sides are never over-seared! Great work! Bravo!

We were visiting Penticton, and although it wasn't the first visit, it was the first time at HM.
We had a booth facing the water, and the view was fabulous. The service was excellent, our server very friendly and attentive. The food was very good, although the Thai curry was just a tad too spicy for me. But I could have ordered it a little milder if I had wanted to. Overall a great dinner -- would definitely go back again.

We were dining with7 of us, 2 people with serious celiac disease. We chose the Hooded Merganser because they had several gluten free options. We asked our server about gluten free options and we made her aware 2 were seriously allergic to gluten. However upon ordering, one of our group with celiac received sausage in his meal and after asking we were told that there was indeed gluten in the meat. He had to have his meal replaced and we were half finished our meals when his finally arrived.

Another wonderful evening at the Hooded Merganser! The service was impeccable, the food delicious. Our server Chris was very helpful, able to answer any questions we had. The live music was a pleasant surprise, and just added to the enjoyment of the evening. We have never been disappointed at the Hood.

The menu selection is some what limited and has deteriorated over the last couple of years.
My wifes meal was cooked properly but mine was under cooked.
The wine prices are out of line, $45 for a $22 bottle of local (Penticton) wine.
If it wasn't for the service and the view, it would have been a non memorable evening.

As far as vegetarian options go the restaurant had one on the menu and it was passable at best. They should also do something about the fruit flies. We had to keep the wine bottle capped and napkins over our glasses. With such a great location they can do better to enhance the ambience

We made a reservation at this restaurant because we had celebrated my sister's birthday there 2 years ago and had a great experience. Celebrating my sister's milestone birthday this year we thought it would be great to return to the same restaurant. This visit was a disappointment to us - there was no live music and the food was just okay. 🙁

after being seated at our table we were ignored..i had to flag down a manager to get service.
my friend ordered the ceaser salad and made a comment to our waiter that the salad had way to much garlic in it..the waiter made a comment that it is a ceaser salad after all..a good waiter would have apologized and gotten another salad.
