Hooded Merganser at Penticton Lakeside Resort
Another wonderful meal and excellent service. We had guests from Alberta and brought them to our favorite restaurant The Hooded Merganser. Everyone’s meal was excellent. Dishes ordered included Halibut and Salmon and both were fantastic generous pieces of fish which was fresh and moist...cooked to perfection! Some had desserts that were apparently to die for such as the Cheesecake, Creme Brûlée and fresh homemade Apple and Blueberry Pie!!
Busy summer night so it was very lively inside due to Smokey skies so no one sat outside.
Perfect food, service and atmosphere! If you haven’t been we highly recommend. Thank you Chef!!
We love this restaurant and every time I'm up from the coast (I live in Vancouver) we go here but this was the 1st time I found the food just subpar. I think they had 4 groups and they took precident over regular diners. Our food was lukewarm and not at all what we've come to expect from the restaurant. It won't keep me from going back but it was the 1st time I really wasn't happy. Servers were good and tried their best but it was just mediocre which I never ever have had there 😕
We enjoyed a very good meal and great experience. We would definitely dine here again.
Have been to the Hooded Merganser on many occasions and really enjoyed the meals, however this time, the Gouda/Mango sandwich was a real disappointment. It looked like something from a cafe, 2 thin slices of gouda and a few bits of not very flavourful mango on white bread... ugh!
It was my wife's 57th birthday and we celebrated with my our son's family. I reserved the table a month in advance with a special request on the patio for 6 persons including a baby. When I arrived a round table in the corner was waiting for us. The party (4) next to us gave me hostile stares and started to engage with the waitress and the manager in an unruly argument that that table should have been theirs first. I have to commend both for standing their ground and for us. The service and food was impeccable, not to mention the wonderful and relaxing evening ambiance of the entire restaurant. We are regulars and will continue to frequent this place. If there was a 6th star I would give them 6.
Would have enjoyed it more if we had a little more time between appetizers and the main meal - it came immediately each other!
Had an absolutely fabulous seafood meal. Met up with another couple. Her husband had the steak. Said it was cooked to perfection. Had a table outside, but then moved in. Not much cooler, but no sun in the face. Rusty was our waiter and he was awesome, because he looked after us without interruptions. Perfect evening!
The Hooded Merganser is our favourite restaurant in Penticton, B.C. We enjoy the view of the lake and the service is always outstanding. The meals are fabulous. Great portions and always served hot. The wine and beer selection is local and they are willing to make any type of highball you request....whether it's on the menu or not. Reservations are a must in the summer as they are very busy. It is well worth the wait even if you don't have a reservation. Lunch is great too, as are the eggs benedict for breakfast or brunch.
Was very pleased with the quality of food for the price. We pay more for a basic burger and fries in Vancouver than an ahi tuna club sandwich here. Great view, lake breeze, charming service. Will be back.
Amazing service from our waitress. Honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Great food, amazing ambience and a fantastic server. Can’t beat that 👌🏻
The first time I visited I was blown away by the food and service. I chose this restaurant again for my birthday dinner but was very disappointed. Our server didn't appear for quite some time after we were seated, and there was an incredible delay between our drinks (at which point we ordered our food), appetizers and our main. We had been seated for over an hour and a half before receiving our entrees, despite ordering within a reasonable amount of time. Our empty appetizer plates sat in front of us for SO long. Our server seemed surprised we inquired as to the delay and offered to apology or compensation. When we received the food, it looked and tasted as though it had been prepared in a rush. Such a shame given my first experience :(
Our waitress made only one mistake, which could have been because one of our guests was not clear in communicating. Our waitress overall was a pleasure to be served by.
Outstanding service but food this time not as good as expected.
Our Special salmon&prawns - the fish was a bit dried out and not flaky.
Appetizer- naan bread was really good
It would be nice to have a liile more variety in the menue. Like mor3 than one soup.
Drove up from Osoyoos to have lunch with a friend before dropping them off at the airport.
Great service, food came quickly and was absolutely delicious.
Schönes Lage des Restaurants direkta am See. Gute Speisen zu vernünftigen Preisen.
Awesome view, great ambiance, a must visit if in Penticton
WE HAD TWO STEAKS VERY POORLY SEASONED .SERVICE VERY GOOD NICE VIEW .
As always, the Hooded Merganser hit its mark. For our special occasion, the food and service was exceptional and I wouldn’t expect anything less. Thank you again for making our special evening remarkable. Xoxo. KZC
Fantastic food, service and view! Kid friendly and everyone was helpful and happy. Awesome experience!
Extremely average dining experience. Drinks are decent, however food wasn’t great.
We had a table on the patio. Our waiter, Chris, was attentive but let us take our time. Three of had the Beef Tenderloin and one had the 12 oz Rib Eye steak, all were cooked exactly as requested. The atmosphere was great. We will be back next time we're in Penticton.
I would recommend this restaurant to my friends even though my meal was not satisfactory. I ordered the butter chicken. very tasty and presented well. i bit down on a chicken bone quite hard leaving my tooth sore. The waiter was very apologetic and did remove the meal from our bill.
My wife's meal was very good. I hope this was an isolated incident and others will enjoy the establishment.
View is stunning, service among the best. Great food at reasonable prices. Every trip up I make it a stop. Highly recommended
not enough GF options i.e. pizza crust, pasta
substandard spinach/artichoke dip i.e. needed wayyyyy more spinach and artichokes and the sauce was grainy suggesting the white sauce was not prepared correctly prior to adding cheese and veg
and ridiculous price for sangria. I can understand $9 for a glass of wine, but $7 to $8 for sangria would be reasonable.
I have eaten here many times and would always rate the full experience 10/10. This time seemed much different. We weren't read the specials but the table next to us was. Steak was over cooked (asked for medium rare, got medium). Not overly impressed with the sides (seasonal veggies were carrots and kale?) and fries were very old or had been sitting under the lamp for far too long. Just sort of blah by comparison to other times I had been there. Wine list was still great as usual and the baked brie appy was delicious as well.
Have dined here several times over the past six years, and the food and service has always been great.
Great atmosphere, lake view is excellent. Food was all delicious, We eat there because of the organic style menus. Service is always top notch. We have had both breakfast and dinner there. We have stayed in the hotel in both 2016 and 2017 and used the restaurant.
We were looking forward to dining at the Hooded Merganser as friends had given it a great review. Unfortunately our experience was not the same. The appetizers were good and served hot but the entrees when served were cold. When I mentioned this to our server, she did not seem concerned and did not offer to do anything about it. I understand that mistakes can happen but when you are paying $32 for a steak that has been served cold and the staff does not want to fix the mistake then I do not want return or recommend the restaurant.
A fantastic setting with balcony view of the lake. Spectacular. Afternoon sun can be pretty bright & hot, so bring your shades or sit inside.
Food was excellent, and paired well with local wines. Make a reservation so you don't miss out on this Penticton treasure.
Absolutely wonderful food, was sad to see they took the crab cakes off the menu as those were so delicious. Service was great and dining experience overall was amazing. We went back for breakfast in the morning and sat outside it was so incredible and beautiful food was excellent
We sat on the waterfront patio with another couple, for a very memorable sunset dinner. Our server was friendly , knowledgeable and efficient. We Shared the roasted garlic with Brie and pesto appy which was hot and savoury good. The special was duck breast with morel mushrooms and red wine Demi glaze, which was fabulous, as was my husbands very generous and perfectly cooked lamb rack. We washed Iit all down with some local red wines from their list of quality local selections, and indulged in a velvety and decadent chocolate ganache pâté for dessert. I look forward to our next visit!
Great view and architecture. The food was very tasty and the menu is creative. The service was fast and friendly. Nice experience overall, and I'll definitely return.
The only complaint I have is the dress code. The website states "business casual". To me that implies a level of dress and behavior. We dressed appropriately; however, many patrons and their children did not. I don't consider sweat shirts, sweat pants, ripped t-shirts, and runners as business casual. If you're going to publish a dress code then enforce it, otherwise some people will be disappointed with the environment.
Excellent Restaurant with great food, service and views!
We had a great meal and the best view
View was great. Food was good. Seating was good. Overall a good experience. Wait time for dinner was a bit long. Would come again.
Out server Katie was outstanding and the wine list is great!
We arrived at this restaurant in a rainstorm. Unusual for the Penticton area... we were greeted very pleasantly and brought to the table we had booked. Our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable on the menu. We chose to have the tuna, the halibut and the steak (three different people lol) as well as a peanut butter and jam sandwich for our 5year old son who is a picky eater (who thinks to have that on a kids menu, brilliant!!). All of our different dishes where delicious in there own ways, served with fresh vegetables. The wine list offered a lot of local wines and was affordable. And all this is without mentioning the view, you are almost dinning in the lake... We had a great meal and would highly recommend
