Hooded Merganser at Penticton Lakeside Resort
My wife and I were at the Hooded Merganser for our anniversary, we found the ambiance at the merganser to be very well suited for a nice dinner for two. The waiter was around just enough for help as required. Wine list was adequate with local wines. Appetizer and dinner were outstanding , very well prepared and cooked to our requirements.
Overall as a first time their, we will go back again for dinner.
4 out of 5
Always a good bet for any special occasion. To bad it was dark when we went as the lake view is fabulous. Raised booth seating is comfortable and allows for a good view although not right next to the panoramic windows. Once the waiting staff realised we had been seated (!) service was good and quick.
Met a friend for brunch. Service and food was great! Just a heads up though we ordered mimosas and restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol until 11am. Always a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner.
My friends and I have been to Hooded Merganzer 4 times this year and we always have the tenderloin with peppercorn and blue cheese topping.....best steak ever!!! On our last visit our server Rusty was very friendly and very attentive. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks once again for a wonderful experience.
It was great! Always like going to the Hood.
We eat at this restaurant whenever we visit Penticton. This time and as usual the food was very good. Our waitress was the best. It was a bit noisy but it is a popular restaurant so to be expected but still able have a conversation. We will be back on our next visit.
Great ambiance and food. We also had nice service!
Great food! Service was a bit inattentive. Loved the location.
Our server Lauren, who worked on Sunday, was awesome. She was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable about the food and portion size when I asked her about it also. She was a delight.
The food was excellent and we all had an awesome brunch.
I also enjoyed making the reservation online. It was easy to do so and I liked receiving the confirmation.
We had a thanksgiving meal with our son. Veggies were done to a turn, steak and prawns were excellent and dessert was delicious. All the staff were friendly and professional. Then we came back for breakfast and watched the fish jumping. Will definitely eat at the Hooded Merganzer next time we are in Penticton.
It was recommand by our guesthouse.
A very good meal, we were not in a rush and wanted a leisure dining experience, which is what we got. We did not feel rushed at all. We were served water and got our menus, ordered drinks, looked at the menu and just ordered an appetizer to start, followed by our main course. The food was very nice, the steak I ordered was cooked just the way I asked, served with a baked potato and veggies. Overall, a nice meal, very good service and a nice restaurant overall. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was unfortunately not very good. We started with a very dry not crunchy dragon roll with chilli sauce inside. The pizza was so soggy that we immediately sent it back. Next came BBQ Pork Ribs with a watery very sweet and not spicy sauce. The Arctic char was mediocre. Great Martini though. Go here for the view and the cocktails and somewhere else for dinner. We have had some good meals there before so you could take a chance.
We ordered Bibimbap and the calamari...dishes were ok but the Bibimbap could of had more flavor...bit boring. The calamari was overall good..larger pieces.
I was my wife’s birthday, the food and service was fantastic! We will be going back. Great menu options.
I was a little disappointed. I made reservations and stated that it was for my boyfriends birthday but the waitress never addressed the occasion. No Birthday cake or anything.
Of the 4 meals, 3 were excellent but mine was below par. I had the butter chicken and the quality of the meat was poor. It seemed like they used fatty thigh pieces and the taste was bland. I only ate half. They give me a free dessert. My dads fries were Luke warm but they did replace them. My dad thought his steak was the best he ever had.
We enjoyed taking our parents to a resto they hadn’t heard of or visited before and celebrated our anniversary with them. Delicious food, wonderful ambience and impeccable service by Katie. Thank you!! I want to come back on a sunny day.
We requested a window seat which we got. We started with the green bean appetizer which we now know we should have returned it. Beans were so chewy that we tried to pick thru them to find the slimmer ones which really didn't matter. We left half the plate so when the waiter asked if we were done we said we couldn't eat them as they were tough and he just replied "oh ok". My husbands butter chicken was delicious BUT my salmon dinner was awful. It tasted like a gas bbq. Horrible flavor. So strong!! I asked the waiter when I ordered it if I could order it to be cooked medium well and he said "yes of course". The extremely thin piece of salmon came completely raw in the middle and cooked well done on each end. He did ask if I wanted it to be cooked more which I declined. I told him if they cooked it more it would just be more gas flavor than it already was. He again said "oh ok". The strong gas flavor overpowered any lemon herb flavoring on it. The veggies were sitting in that flavor as well so really the only item I could eat was the baked potato. We were going to try the berry pie but decided against it and went back to our hotel, the Ramada and enjoyed dessert in the Kettle Pub. This quality of restaurant should not be a hit or miss meal. The chefs should know how to cook a delicious piece of salmon. Unfortunately the amazing view will not bring us back.
Excellent Sunday brunch with novel items priced similarly to other establishments. A reservation got us a window table with gorgeous lakefront view.
S V burger is the best in the West. Great atmosphere and fast/ friendly staff.
Was amazing. We loved the food and the service was awesome. Thanks again!
Anniversary. Not an intimate dining experience.
Would be great for noisy group dinner.
Waitress seemed rushed to get our order. When we rec our food she never came back. Never refilled my water glass. My mom ordered red wine was poured in a white wine glass and poured the whole 8 oz in leaving no room for it to breathe. The chicken and fish were amazing however the parmasion fries were not good ( you can get better at earls) as they were overcooked and were one big blob of fry and parmasion and you were given ketchup to dip them in. (Horrible combination) i took my mom there to celebrate her new job and was disappointed. Fruit flys as well couldn'tget rid of them.
Stunning view and great service but utterly disappointing food. My chicken sandwich was one of the worst I have ever had (it had zero flavour, and I am not exaggerating) and my husband's bibimbop was mediocre at best. Not at all what we expected for the price. I would return to have drinks on the beautiful patio but I definitely would not order food again.
We dine at the Hooded Merganser every summer when we are in Penticton.
The food is excellent! We always receive great service as well.
There is patio dining on the lake side of the restaurant.
Great ambience, super service. Halibut was done beautifully. Do not order steak. My New York was about 1/4 inch thick and tough. No exaggeration, you expect something a little better for $34. Kudos to the kitchen though as it’s hard to cook something that thin and have it still pink in the middle
We both enjoyed our meals - Tuna and beef tenderloin. Local wine offering was decent and the patio view is one of the best in the okanagan.
I was there for my birthday dinner with family and had a great time! Service was very good, food was great and a fun ambiance, and of course a great view despite the smoke.!
Staff very accommodating and helpful!
View is great, patio is amazing, food was plentiful and tasty. There was lots of options. A great night.
Had a great meal, fantastic bottle of wine and service was excellent. Felt welcome the moment we walked through the door.
Would definitely dine here again.
Food was excellent and the views would have been spectacular if not for the smoke.
We encountered a service issue that could have been resolved better, which has prompted a lower rating than I would have otherwise given.
My mother and I were having a special lunch for her birthday. We both ordered the Niçoise salad. The ingredients were fresh and the tuna was prepared perfectly. The portion was small for the price and apparently the kitchen was out of green beans so instead of telling us that, our salad was served without the beans, making the portion even smaller. The service was slow even though it wasn’t very busy.
It was my first time at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I drove from Peachland and it was so worth it! Beautiful view and we had an excellent server.
Another wonderful meal and excellent service. We had guests from Alberta and brought them to our favorite restaurant The Hooded Merganser. Everyone’s meal was excellent. Dishes ordered included Halibut and Salmon and both were fantastic generous pieces of fish which was fresh and moist...cooked to perfection! Some had desserts that were apparently to die for such as the Cheesecake, Creme Brûlée and fresh homemade Apple and Blueberry Pie!!
Busy summer night so it was very lively inside due to Smokey skies so no one sat outside.
Perfect food, service and atmosphere! If you haven’t been we highly recommend. Thank you Chef!!
We love this restaurant and every time I'm up from the coast (I live in Vancouver) we go here but this was the 1st time I found the food just subpar. I think they had 4 groups and they took precident over regular diners. Our food was lukewarm and not at all what we've come to expect from the restaurant. It won't keep me from going back but it was the 1st time I really wasn't happy. Servers were good and tried their best but it was just mediocre which I never ever have had there 😕
We enjoyed a very good meal and great experience. We would definitely dine here again.
Have been to the Hooded Merganser on many occasions and really enjoyed the meals, however this time, the Gouda/Mango sandwich was a real disappointment. It looked like something from a cafe, 2 thin slices of gouda and a few bits of not very flavourful mango on white bread... ugh!
It was my wife's 57th birthday and we celebrated with my our son's family. I reserved the table a month in advance with a special request on the patio for 6 persons including a baby. When I arrived a round table in the corner was waiting for us. The party (4) next to us gave me hostile stares and started to engage with the waitress and the manager in an unruly argument that that table should have been theirs first. I have to commend both for standing their ground and for us. The service and food was impeccable, not to mention the wonderful and relaxing evening ambiance of the entire restaurant. We are regulars and will continue to frequent this place. If there was a 6th star I would give them 6.
Would have enjoyed it more if we had a little more time between appetizers and the main meal - it came immediately each other!
